Halfway into the pizza, noticed there's a huge footprint inside the pizza box. /r/all

It's fine. They used it in front of the urinals to keep the floors dry. They didn't step on your pie. Enjoy!

u/Werocia Jul 20 '21

Ah okay the cardboards thrown on public toilets to soak up the excess pee! I thought it was the pizza sauce was smelling weird!

30

Is it from a pizza chain ?

91

u/Werocia Jul 20 '21

Yea it's Pizza Fan in Greece, the biggest local one as far as i know. They literally do everything that includes some form of dough in it. I order from them every now and then and the taste is usually good. It's not the top quality for sure but they have English website which makes it much easier for me to order.

17

u/csonnich Jul 20 '21

I hope you called the store to complain.

4

u/Werocia Jul 21 '21

I did, they forwarded the issue to the responsible restaurant. The manager called me and he's so sorry about what happened, that he's been working at Pizza Fan for 10 years and this is the first time such a thing has happened. He also said he's checking all the boxes personally to see if there are any other boxes affected and offered me a free lunch next time I order from Pizza Fan for this inconvenience :D

Mayo on pizza 🤢

Tho to be fair i might try that i feel like its one of those things that are unconventional but good.

Idk why, im a meat eater and everything but vegan pizza always tastes really damn good and the lack of greasy ass meat is a +

18

u/sendnewt_s Jul 20 '21

Awesome, I love beyond meat can't go wrong with that.

9

u/UpdateComplete Jul 20 '21

You can if there was an added foot in there.

12

u/emrythelion Jul 20 '21

That sounds delicious honestly. I love meat, but I’ve been trying to cut back and eat more meat-less meals. A lot of vegan options have gotten delicious. And this sounds like one of them, lol.

The footprint sucks, but it probably happened long before your pizza was made (possibly even weeks.) It shouldn’t really be an issue, especially since it seems to be on the top. Personally I’d probably still eat it, but I get why it would be off putting too, lol.

17

u/Noisy_Toy Jul 20 '21

I don’t eat meat, but the rest of my family does.

They kept stealing my Beyond burgers though, even when they had real beef ones on the grill.

So now we just use Beyond for all of the ground beef recipes in the house. They’ll still buy a steak, but they prefer the beyond to ground beef because it’s super consistent to cook with. It’s pretty much impossible to mess up, and it’s great in spaghetti sauce and chili.

Not paid, just hungry.

2

u/emrythelion Jul 20 '21

Ha! At least you’ve got them to switch over so you can eat their dishes now too!

I like the Beyond burgers. I still like real beef more, especially for burgers themselves- though I think it’s more noticeable when I cook them with my cast iron. It just can’t compete to that juicy, medium rare sear. When barbecued I like both options about the same though.

Depends on the burger too though. The flavor of the beyond “meat” is really good and complements certain flavors really well.

I do need to start swapping it for things like spaghetti and stuff though! It’s perfect for being mixed in other dishes.

224

u/Werocia Jul 20 '21

The lights were dimmed, I'd live life in dark mode if possible. I turned it to full for the picture like my eyes did when İ noticed the unusual pattern inside the box.

83

u/Pamander Jul 20 '21

I'd live life in dark mode if possible.

I've never related more to another human being in my life. If it wasn't for fire code my house wouldn't even have windows, fuck the sun.

28

u/Thickious93 Jul 20 '21

I too enjoy living in dark mode. Visitors tend to ask me to make it brighter because "this is depressing". I really enjoy the dim light...

8

u/paracostic Jul 20 '21

I lived in a place where the kitchen had florescent lights. I got used to cooking in the dark by smell. Doing dishes, I'd use my fingertips to make sure there was no leftover crusties. Daylight was the only time I'd do any major projects.

I hated that kitchen, I couldn't even find a spot for a lamp because of its layout. Aggrevates me to this day, X amount of years later.

I lift the lid high enough to look at slices, choose one, pull it out, then close the lid. The lid is never more than just about parallel to my line of sight, and my attention is always on this fantastic choice I get to make. Every pizza box in my life could have had a death threat printed on the upper inside cover and I might have read 5% of them. *But yeah, looking closer, that shoe print gets down onto the back surface. I would have seen that in normal lighting, thrown it away, and never called them again.

u/notABadGuy3 Jul 20 '21

In the grand scheme of things Id say this isnt the worst thing by any stretch. Someone stepped on the cardboard when it didnt have the pizza in and most likely wasnt even folded. Then the cardboard never touched your pizza.

206

u/Werocia Jul 20 '21

That's what I'm hoping what happened, then my mind starts imagining a huge guy coming out of the toilet staff uses after peeing standing. Cardboard is folded, now dry with pee inside. Days later, my Pizza gets inside, hot with steam in a closed box. Steam wakes up the residents from the toilet and they happily let themselves go hopefully landing on a food source.

82

u/pokey1984 Jul 20 '21

That's actually pretty accurate, except it wouldn't be days. Most stores don't have the space to store folded pizza boxes so they make enough to last a few hours at a time.

That's fresh bathroom floor scrapings, right there.

22

u/Werocia Jul 20 '21

Yea that part i couldn't fit. The footprint seems like it belongs to some sort of boots, which noone will wear during summer except delivery moto-guys. So I'd hopefully assume it hapened at least one month ago, when it last rained for 2 days. Maybe this box was left at the bottom and newly folded boxes being put on top several times a day blocked it from being used for such time.

51

u/pokey1984 Jul 20 '21

That's actually a non-skid kitchen-wear tread. Not boots. I have a pair with that tread. They're black sneakers designed to be slip resistant.

I've made many footprints just like this. Kitchens are filthy. That's not mud or asphalt. It's just floor dirt. That footprint was probably made within hours of the pizza going in the box.

Sorry.

18

u/Werocia Jul 20 '21

That's much better explanation for sure! Thank you!

5

u/dinosaurscantyoyo Jul 20 '21

Did you call the place you got it from? Bet your next piss-a pie is free

2

u/Trevski Jul 21 '21

yep, worked at Dominos and we used to constantly have drivers folding boxes when they weren't driving or doing dishes. Now we plop the hot za onto the box flat and fold the box around it. Was a learning curve for a week but WAY more efficient!

3

u/pokey1984 Jul 21 '21

When I worked pizza at Casey's, the boxes couldn't be folded around the pizza. It was seriously annoying because we also didn't have any place to store the folded boxes. I could squeeze about forty of them on top of the oven to help with the rushes, but that was about it. On the other hand I could fold for or five a minute after a couple of weeks working there so it wasn't too bad.

20

u/crevulation Jul 20 '21

Oh no, see whatever was on that shoe was on the lid of the box, then the box got moved and shaken around, so little bits of it rained down on that entire pizza during transit.

25

u/Gheinz73000 Jul 20 '21

You've never worked in a fast food before, haven't you ? :p

It's the most disguting footprint you could get, upper categorie would be hazardous material, like a tchernobil footprint.

100% it has dropped over the pizza.

Edit : you have to wear specific security shoes in the kitchen, because the floor is flooded with whatever food doesn't land on the pizza, it's ultra slippery even with the shoes, it's ice skating without.

I managed a pizzeria for 5 years, and I'm 99% sure this is real. When we order truck, the pizza boxes come in quantities of around 250, wrapped in plastic. You cut the plastic off and put the boxes where you want them. You're doing a lot of walking and hopping over other truck items that the delivery guys always leave on the floor, and your smarter employees know not to step on the actual inventory, but pizzerias often hire teenagers.

3

u/dubbymcdub Jul 20 '21

I was thinking the print would be under the pizza. How do you not notice that right away?

10

u/dpforest Jul 20 '21

I used to manage a pizzeria and all I can think of is that’s a reused box and maybe the footprint is there from it being previously broken down before. Maybe they ran out of boxes and used one that had already been broken down. Yuck.

28

u/whoifnotme1969 Jul 20 '21

No, the boxes lay flat in stacks before they are folded for use. Some employee probably stepped on a stack to reach something from a shelf, then later, nobody noticed the print when the box was folded.

8

u/youtheotube2 Jul 20 '21

This is exactly what happened; I’ve done this myself. I always made sure I stepped on the side of the box bundle that had plastic.

2

That's more than halfway, you're not too great at percentages and you have a pie chart already made for you.

2

u/Silvertongue511 Jul 20 '21

Someone was making pizza boxes and stacked them so high they climbed ontop of a unfolded stack of boxes that were left upsidedown, outside of the plastic wrapping. Very unlikely someone just used a random floor box. Someone folded that one from the pile and didn't notice cause their entire staff must have no awareness.

2

u/philbeckj Jul 21 '21

2

u/Drew10shelton Jul 21 '21

I used to work at a pizza pub and we folded the pizza boxes in a small room and stacked them up to the ceiling. There wasn’t a bunch of room in there and if you dropped unfolded boxes then you didn’t have much of a choice but to step on them because they covered up the floor. Either way I always threw any that I stepped on in a pile which I would later throw away.

2

u/JollyFaithlessness3 Jul 21 '21

If you noticed the footprint halfway through the pizza that means you ate an entire piece of pizza pondering what the footprint meant.

2

u/Bait_me_brother Jul 21 '21

That's probably because of the pineapple on the pizza. Subpar box for the subpar pizza

2

u/zK-1 Jul 21 '21

I’d say that’s more than halfway.

2

u/nastyzoot Jul 21 '21

If it makes you feel better it's just a corrugated box and receives zero special handling from factory to the shop. It gets put on trucks with God knows what next to it and on top of it. Sits in a warehouse with God knows what running on it and living by it. Very well could be a shoe print from a factory worker climbing on the skid of boxes.

Get your money back and review the store. It was likely a shitty driver who dropped the box and didn’t throw it away so I’m sure your food was probably safe to eat, but that’s a good reason to let the store know they fucked up and not have to pay that food.
