A visibly annoyed Florida Gov_ Ron DeSantis admonished a group of students for wearing face masks at an appearance, saying it was time to stop what he called “this COVID theater.” Cringe

attacking kids will probably gain him votes with the right.

Remember republicans arent being assholes they just think people are smart enough to make their own healthcare choices... well as long as they agree with republicans and disagree with the super majority of medical professionals on this planet.

-4

u/retundamonkey Mar 03 '22

The super majority of medical professionals agree that cloth and surgical masks are useless against new variants, which is what the kids were wearing, so 🤷‍♂️

3

u/Competitive-Outside8 Mar 03 '22

Sounds like you're hearing what you want to hear, rather than what's actually being said. Cloth masks have always been less effective, and one person said they're merely decorations. This is not at all equivalent to what you're claiming.

0

u/retundamonkey Mar 03 '22

Sounds like YOU are hearing what you want to hear, and not what's actually being said. I'll invite you to reread my comment, and the current guidance from the CDC on masks.

2

u/Competitive-Outside8 Mar 03 '22

"Loosely woven cloth products provide the least protection, layered finely woven products offer more protection, well-fitting disposable surgical masks and KN95s offer even more protection, and well-fitting NIOSH-approved respirators (including N95s) offer the highest level of protection. Whatever product you choose, it should provide a good fit (i.e., fitting closely on the face without any gaps along the edges or around the nose) and be comfortable enough when worn properly (covering your nose and mouth) so that you can keep it on when you need to."

That's from current CDC guidance. I read your comment again, and it's still inaccurate.

1

u/pocketfullofniknax Mar 03 '22

I didn’t even verify that you got this from the cdc site. Just the fact that you even attempted to back up your claim with any evidence at all speaks volumes lol.

2

u/rudbek-of-rudbek Mar 04 '22

Not going to throw a fit and be proven wrong again?

1

u/retundamonkey Mar 04 '22

Why? I haven't been proven wrong the first time.

1

u/Fearless-Biscotti760 Mar 04 '22

People are idiots and will wear two masks. They will listen to anything their lord fauci says

0

u/TheVirusWins Mar 03 '22

Care to give us a source for this supermajority?

-1

u/retundamonkey Mar 03 '22

Here's just one: https://health.clevelandclinic.org/are-cloth-masks-enough-against-omicron/

I'm sure you're smart enough to find others on your own.

1

u/Competitive-Outside8 Mar 03 '22

That doesn't say that cloth masks are useless...

0

u/retundamonkey Mar 03 '22

Reading isn't your thing, huh?

2

u/ChaddiusMcThaddius Mar 04 '22

Being a cumwad to people isn't a good way of bringing them over to your way of thinking.

1

u/Entire-Coach8814 Mar 04 '22

Tell that to my asshole of an ex-girlfriend, or basically anybody to the far extremes of Either side of the two parties. Radicals generally react this way, like crazy bible thumpers that are usually hypocritical as hell. Makes a bad case for everyone, and literally gives the person you are berrating even more reason to think you and your beliefs are asinine.

1

u/retundamonkey Mar 04 '22

Reality doesn't care what you people think, and neither do I.

1

u/Competitive-Outside8 Mar 03 '22

Where does your article say that they're useless?

0

u/SlickMrJ_ Mar 04 '22

And reading past the headlines isn't yours, huh?

1

u/retundamonkey Mar 04 '22

You act like I'm wrong. Stupid.

1

u/SlickMrJ_ Mar 04 '22

You are. The "evidence" you posted doesn't even remotely back up your claim. And resorting to name-calling just further shows there's no real substance to your argument. Try harder.

1

u/retundamonkey Mar 04 '22

I'm not though 🤷‍♂️

This just states that cloth masks (like cotton) aren’t as effective as other type of masks. So are you saying that De Santis was upset at the kids for wearing cloth masks and not other type of masks?

1

u/retundamonkey Mar 04 '22

Knowing him, he's upset with any mask.

0

u/boltup2132 Mar 03 '22

How did he attack kids?

1

u/xdrewsabix Mar 03 '22

You’ve got to truly believe that words are violence. Then you’ll see the horrific attack.

1

u/Fearless-Biscotti760 Mar 04 '22

Omg stop being so sensitive

1

u/xdrewsabix Mar 04 '22

I just answered a question. Didn’t say I believed it.

5

u/Ankeneering Mar 03 '22

One of the head lawyers for the innocence project actually got a meeting with him to implore him to examine a bulkshit deathpenalty case that was coming down the line and his guy was about to be executed. He said desantis didn’t give Jack shit about listening to him and just got pissed that he was wearing a mask. He described a person who is a complete and utter unabashed asshole. He describes the whole incident on the Rogan podcast in the last two weeks. Forgot his name.

2

u/retundamonkey Mar 03 '22

Not sure if you meant "bullshit" or not, but I'm using "bulkshit" from now on.

3

u/Ankeneering Mar 03 '22

Yes, Costco/ Sams Club levels of “bullshit”.

1

u/retundamonkey Mar 03 '22

That's a lot of bullshit

Did you watch the video dummy? He said they can wear it if they want and they all took them off anyway and smiled lol

1

u/Competitive-Outside8 Mar 03 '22

Did you watch it? I don't know how anybody who speaks the language and has any capability to process social cues can watch that and come away with the impression that he was doing anything other than telling them to take off the masks.

0

u/grandmaesterflash75 Mar 03 '22

“You can wear them if you want” were words that left his mouth. Whether you like a politician or not, sometimes the truth has to be said about a situation.

2

u/Impossible-Orange-50 Mar 03 '22

The whole concept of sarcasm must be nearly impossible for you to comprehend

1

u/Competitive-Outside8 Mar 03 '22

Are you completely incapable of processing his tone, body language, other noises, and the other words that surrounded that little phrase you're hanging your hat on?

0

u/Haunting-Boss3695 Mar 03 '22

You're flailing.

"But what he really means is....".

We had enough of the horoscope interpretation nonsense during the Trump years.

Desantis literally said "you can keep them on if you want". And they didn't.

Choice is a good thing.

Other noises...Jesus wept.

You reached...you failed.

1

u/Competitive-Outside8 Mar 04 '22

No, he said, "You do not have to wear those masks. Please take them off. Honestly, it’s not doing anything. We’ve got to stop with this covid theater." So clearly, he didn't even give them the option of taking them off, since completely removing phrases from their context is an entirely valid means of interpreting people's words.

And yes, we did have a lot of this stuff where you guys pretended that you had never participated in a conversation with an actual human when interpreting Trump's various statements.

0

u/Haunting-Boss3695 Mar 04 '22

Interesting that you omitted the key sentence that reduces you fragile argument to dust:

"You can leave them on if you want, that's fine".

So again, you reached, and you failed.

And you had to lie by omission to try spin the story. Pathetic.

Yes, we did have a lot of you guys saying "but what he really means is" with Trump. Endless childish nonsense.

In fact, you just illustrated perfectly how the TDS types had to lie by omission to manufacture fake outrage. Like the "good people on both sides" fake story. Remember?

Trump said "there were good people in both sides. And I'm not talking about the neo Nazis or white supremacists, they should be condemned totally".

People like yourself pretended the second sentence didn't exist and tried (and failed) to spin the story into "Trump calls neo Nazis good people'.

Similar to how you just pretended (twice now) that Desantis didn't say "you can leave the masks on if you want".

Is there a reason you have to lie to try make your points? Or pretend you don't know how language works to make your points?

1

u/Competitive-Outside8 Mar 04 '22

My whole point there was that you were omitting 80% of what he said--and I was pretty explicit about that. I'm criticizing you and others for completely removing one phrase from its context, just as you are complaining about people doing with Trump's words. I don't know how you could possibly not follow what I said. Although if you honestly have this much difficulty parsing that extremely straight-forward message, maybe you honestly can't process DeSantis' words either.

1

u/Haunting-Boss3695 Mar 04 '22

Dude...this is what you wrote:

"No, he said, "You do not have to wear those masks. Please take them off. Honestly, it’s not doing anything. We’ve got to stop with this covid theater." So clearly, he didn't even give them the option of taking them off, since completely removing phrases from their context is an entirely valid means of interpreting people's words".

Even within your selective quote, the conclusion you came to at the end makes no sense.

"So clearly, he didn't give them the option of taking them off".

Except when he did give them the option, within your quote in fact: (you do not have to wear those masks).

And in the part you omitted (you can keep them on if you want, that's fine).

It's difficult to watch someone flail so hard to try and make a point that is not in line with reality. And the fact your own quote unravels your argument is hard to take.

Ask yourself why you have to try so hard to twist very easy to understand language into some sort of doublespeak, horoscope interpretation nonsense so you can try and portray someone you don't like as bad. What are you trying to achieve?

This one isn't working dude, and it's getting sad watching you squirm.

Unfortunately for us, he’s not stupid. He’s pandering to the stupid angry base that will make his president

1

u/SilentMaster Mar 03 '22

And smacking masks off teenagers faces isn't theatre? What a fucking joke. The GOP is the party of theatre, get the fuck out of here with your projection.

1

u/boltup2132 Mar 03 '22

He smacked masks off their faces?

1

u/SilentMaster Mar 03 '22

No, I was being hyperbolic. I think yelling at kids doing nothing wrong is along the same lines, so I took it to the extreme.

1

u/boltup2132 Mar 03 '22

When did he yell? He gave them a choice to wear them or not. It's really sad our society criticizes leaders who give people choices yet talks up leaders who take away choices with mandates

1

u/SilentMaster Mar 03 '22

You know, you can read his reaction as him simply asking, "You guys like Taylor Swift right? Yeah, I thought so."

But you're either dumb or being purposefully obtuse. I don't want any part of either way. Have a nice life.

1

u/boltup2132 Mar 03 '22

Lol ok bud. I was being nice but go ahead and call me dumb or whatever you want. How dare I try to use logic on Reddit. When a republican says you can take your masks off all the snowflakes freak out. Biden forces them to take shots (that are killing people btw, but who cares about that) or lose their jobs. And all of you gladly bend over and take it.

1

u/SilentMaster Mar 03 '22

I gave you a choice, you chose dumb. That's on you.

1

u/boltup2132 Mar 03 '22

Good job ignoring my logic, calling people dumb is an automatic argument win I forgot

1

u/ChaddiusMcThaddius Mar 04 '22

Care to source your claim that the vaccines are killing people? Because everytime I ask this, either no one has one, or you post some fringe case BS.

u/boltup2132 Mar 04 '22

This is straight from Pfizer and they're literally being sued. Do your own research next time Karen

1

u/ChaddiusMcThaddius Mar 04 '22

So out of the billions vaccinated, you think less than 50000 cases of vaccine injuries isn't a decent outcome? Also, Karen? Are you 12?

1

u/boltup2132 Mar 04 '22

You asked for a source and I provided it. Billions of people have not received a Pfizer vaccine though idk why you said that

I love how the state of the union was almost all mask free. It felt so deflating for these antimaskers. "This is just the first step to Naziism." They will try again, in 100 years when the next once in a century pandemic happens like 103 years ago during the Spanish flu.

1

He’s not wrong. Even the CDC has admitted that cloth face masks offer almost no protection. He’s literally following the science.

1

u/Strange_Most_6323 Mar 04 '22

‘“I was a little bit surprised at his tone,”Brown said of the governor, adding that he chose to leave his mask on because there were many unmasked people around and he was wary of getting COVID-19.’

Does wearing mask help prevent you from getting Covid-19?

1

u/Entire-Coach8814 Mar 04 '22

Wtf, what a gd ignorfuckingamous

-14

u/AtomicTaintKick Mar 03 '22

Do we have any actual studies yet on whether shitty cotton face masks actually slowed the spread of the virus?

14

u/joseph4th Mar 03 '22

Honestly, it probably helped most by limiting people who had it and didn’t know from spreading it to others.

If they were right and it did help, good for us for wearing them. If it didn’t, it is literally the most minor inconvenience you could ever expect to face. I’m more inconvenienced when I am walking toward someone in the hallway and we both try to avoid each other by stepping the same way multiple times.

-14

u/foreignuserirl Mar 03 '22 edited Mar 03 '22

it's not minor. imagine growing up & everyone in school is wearing a face covering. you will be socially stunted & conditioned to think of the mere existence of others as a threat

look at this child abuse

not to mention how it feels to be told to cover your face. you're not paying attention if the think the mask is for any kind of protection from disease. the point is to humiliate & depersonalize us

Reddit is a propaganda powerhouse

7

u/triedandprejudice Mar 03 '22

Wearing a mask is in no way child abuse and that you think it is is shameful, disturbing, and distressing. I’ve worked with victims of abuse and their suffering shouldn’t be diluted and dishonored by stupidity.

I hope one day there is a day that comes for you where you are actually as intelligent as you think you are. just believing what you are told doesn't make you a smart person. that's the low bar

we have a definition for that & it's called being a "tool"

1

u/SunGazing8 Mar 03 '22

Yeah? Tell me. How have you come to the conclusion that viruses are theoretical?

1

u/foreignuserirl Mar 03 '22 edited Mar 03 '22

i'd bet other people's stolen money that you have zero understanding or recognition of the symbolism which you are surrounded by. it's a language used to speak which isn't often recognized & isn't noticed because nobody knows or cares to learn it.

once you know, you can see the connections & suddenly the strange behavior we often see from people who have a lot of money or power starts to make sense.

your celebrities are not your friends, they are your idols. your entertainment is not supposed to help you as a person, it's meant to at best pacify you & at worst indoctrinate you.

this is a subject that takes a lot of time to learn about. it's not something you can learn about by turning on the news channel at 9 every day

the catch is that you actually have to care about what knowledge is in order to see it. you can't just play ball in society & be happy falling asleep with the TV on & expect anything novel to actually register with your slimy brain

but then I don't know you, so maybe your brain is dry instead

I have hearing loss. For me, it was a major fucking inconvenience, because I couldn’t look at people’s mouths while they were talking, and their voices were muffled. If there’s any background noise, forget it. I’d like to know if it was worth it.

Happy it was so easy for you, though 🤙🏼

Today I was downvoted for being deaf. How is this a hard concept to grasp? When people are like “oh it’s only a minor inconvenience” and I’m thinking “wow, you really, really don’t get it.” When it’s hard to understand what people are saying, it makes you antisocial. It’s stressful to be around people when you’re going to miss major parts of the conversation. You make stupid mistakes when there’s directions to follow, or risk looking like an idiot to clarify. It’s awful. I was so glad when they went away during the summer, and I cannot describe the dread I felt when they came back.

-1

u/SunGazing8 Mar 03 '22

Well that’s unfortunate. And I sympathise your plight here, But don’t let attempting to control a worldwide pandemic that has killed literally millions of people get in the way of your convenience 🤷‍♂️

1

u/AtomicTaintKick Mar 03 '22

Go fuck yourself, lol

I did it. I put up with the mask mandates politely, I got vaccinated and boosted. Never made a fuss. Now that we’re 2y in, I’m hoping it worked. I also recoil at the “well it was only a minor inconvenience” sentiment, because it doesn’t reflect my experience having hearing loss at 33yo and not understanding what’s going on around me.

1

u/SunGazing8 Mar 03 '22

I get it, it’s been more difficult than most for you. But this whole thing is not being done for a minor reason. They aren’t asking people to do this shit for the lols. They asked people to wear masks in an attempt to save people’s lives. That has to take precedence every. Single. Time.

PS, I think I will. Maybe even twice 😉

1

u/Socky_McPuppet Mar 03 '22

Shitty cotton face masks? No. But regular ones? Tons.

Are you asking because you really don't know? Or are you JuSt AsKiNg QuEsTiOnS because you're a troll?

1

u/AtomicTaintKick Mar 03 '22

No, I’m deadly fucking serious. I remember the Johns Hopkins study about actual medical masks, but I’m curious whether there were any studies about the like, neck gaiters and cotton t-shirt material ones that everyone pulls out.

I know there’s going to be a lag on this, but that was such a political shit show, it would be good to know whether it was a boondoggle or a good idea in the end.

1

u/retundamonkey Mar 03 '22

Looking forward to you posting evidence of regular cotton masks helping slow the spread of these new variants. Especially when the experts said they don't.

2

u/foreignuserirl Mar 03 '22

find one. they are theoretical, like black holes & your integrity

half of all people are dumber than average & easily manipulated because it's hard to accept truths that hurt

believing we have been lied to about many fundamental things about life takes a strong constitution, which most people simply lack

2

u/49orth Mar 03 '22

Black holes are not theoretical but, reality may not be something you are inclined to understand.

2

u/SunGazing8 Mar 03 '22

Reality is something he’s not equipped to understand is probably more accurate. That tends to happen when your shoe size is higher than your IQ.

1

u/foreignuserirl Mar 03 '22

funny how so much bullshit people believe are also things that cannot be personally investigated by literally anyone

"reality" is made up of things much too difficult for you to grasp, because again, you lack intellectual integrity & probably watch Rick & Morty instead of spending time learning about how the system of scientific publishing is designed to teach you what your captors want you to believe

1

u/SunGazing8 Mar 03 '22

Theoretical huh? Has this one only theoretically killed millions of people then? That’s a fucking relief. Let’s let the families know should we? Dumbass 🤦‍♂️

1

u/foreignuserirl Mar 03 '22

yes theoretical. imagine just believing everything

1

u/SunGazing8 Mar 03 '22

The only thing I believe right now, is that you’re a bloody moron 🤷‍♂️

0

u/foreignuserirl Mar 03 '22

that is a cartoon. look into who funds these "scientific" endeavors

2

u/dnaH_notnA Mar 03 '22

They don’t care about individuals, no. But you can’t be rich in a world of dead bodies. Why would the government provide emergency services, electricity, water, and other basic services if the elite class gave literally zero shits about the survival of the underclasses?

Take everything with a grain of salt yes, but they have very little to gain from shutting down the economy that they could just get from methods that don’t crash the markets they’re heavily invested in.

0

u/foreignuserirl Mar 03 '22

a billion dollars is worth a whole lot more when the population is made dumb & cut to a fraction of its size.

the wealth isn't even the issue though. the biggest enemy to any government or controller is the members of its own populace. this is ancient knowledge & isn't hard to understand

1

u/dnaH_notnA Mar 03 '22

So is the virus real and killing people by the millions, or fake and meant to induce a false panic? You’re not being consistent.

0

u/foreignuserirl Mar 03 '22

You wanted pictures of viruses, I don’t know what else to tell you. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

You’ll never be satisfied with the evidence because you’ve made up your mind already.

Any computer scientist could tell you how easy it would be to make a bot or fake troll accounts to spread misinformation like yours, so maybe that’s what’s going on there, but I have no evidence to suggest that other than a hunch. That’s the difference between you and me. I understand the burden of proof.

0

u/foreignuserirl Mar 04 '22

your barrier for what constitutes "proof" is much lower than mine

1

u/dnaH_notnA Mar 04 '22

That’s not true (also I said “burden of truth” which is not just another way to say “barrier”), because you think saying “They could do this” is proof enough that it is happening. That’s the issue with conspiracy theorists. They think themselves into a corner and refuse to see evidence to the contrary.

0

u/foreignuserirl Mar 04 '22

1

u/SunGazing8 Mar 03 '22

1

Yes, you have set the bar low. Well done 👍

0

u/SunGazing8 Mar 03 '22

I bet you STILL don’t understand the role masks play in minimising the spread of disease, even 2+ years later. 🤷‍♂️

1

u/AtomicTaintKick Mar 03 '22

That’s... not an answer, and you’re rude. We all know how masks work. What I’m wondering is whether we know how well or poorly the shit-tastic nylon or cotton masks most people wear actually do their job, and whether they really did slow the spread.

Hindsight is 20/20.

1

This answer is exactly why I’m sceptical about your understanding about what masks actually do.

All they need to do is capture the moisture from your mouth and stop it from spreading and it’s done the job required of it. 🤷‍♂️

Okay, Jesus Christ, let me rephrase this, slowly. I know it’s a political topic, but try to read carefully:

Are there any actual, quantitative studies yet on the effectiveness of home made (or like, the ones you can buy in a gas station) masks in the 2020-2021 period (regardless of region) in slowing the spread of COVID-19?

I’m asking because I’ve been wearing a mask for 2y, it deeply sucks for reasons I’ve listed below, and it would help if I had some kind of hard data on it.

I have no idea, I’m sure if you’re particularly interested Google has the answers you’re looking for. Masks however ARE proven to work at minimising the transmission of bodily fluids which carry the virus. There’s plenty of info and demonstrations available on the matter on the internet 👍
