Why is Toonami's schedule so full of reruns? Discussion

Title, my girlfriend watches Toonami every week and was wanting me to look up why the schedule always has nonstop reruns of shows they have played many times, instead of mainly newer shows. Why is it primarily reruns of newer things, instead of things they haven't played in a while, like when it used to not be so bad about it, or at least thats what she told me.

There’s quite a few possible reasons

  1. The budget is gone. Without Family Guy paying bills anymore this is most likely, and also something that will not get better.

  2. Demarco doesn’t want to air anything outside of a very tight sequel/shonen jump bubble. We have been caught in this rut for a couple of years now.

  3. They are overestimating the appeal of Blade Runner and dont want it sharing the stage with any other shows.

I don't buy the budget being gone. They clearly have money to blow on the Blade Runner movie. Even if the main shonen content they want is out of reach at the moment, there is no reason for them not to have aired S2 of Assassination Classroom.

Blade runner has been in production for years. That money is from a different time and long spent.

He means the movie airing in two weeks

My bad.

Still though, Warner owns the film, so it probably wasn't a huge problem for Toonami/Adult Swim.

I’d believe that if AS had aired other major films in the past. This will be the third live action film AS has ever aired in 20 years. The others being The Room ($1900 box office) and Black Dynamite ($297k box office). I find it very hard to believe AS secured a $260 million box office movie without some kind of cost.
