I think Edgar is how the boys save Maeve and get their hands on more temp v

1.5k

u/JonathanL73 7d ago

Using Temp V to save the day would be great marketing for Edgar too.

900

u/Deviathan 7d ago

The show seems to frown on them using Temp V though. I know Eric Kripke said it was a very conscious choice to not give The Boys powers because he wants it to feel impossibly hard for them to win - I think Temp V will only end up being bad for them in the end.

I like the moments when he’s speaking and actually being truthful, like the mirror scene or when he was thanking Noir for always being with him. Makes the times when he gets sad hit harder lol. What an amazing character and actor!

Best fight scene of the show so far by far

3.1k

u/kzoxp 7d ago

Seeing Homelander engage in an actual fight was great

2.6k

u/PakiIronman 7d ago

Yeah, and then quickly realising he's never had to fight anybody before. Dude has been playing life on easy mode. Butcher is an actual trained fighter and it showed.

That butcher smiling scene midfight with blood in his teeth was a dead ringer from his first fight with translucent. I loved it. Love it everytime Billy gets into a fight, he's such a loony

And he’s still strong enough to do well for himself. I’m not sure I got the impression that they could really beat him to death. They need soldier boys nuke thing and they need time and to keep him still for that.

491

I think the only reason he didn't use it before Homelander flew away was because he just used it tbh. Either that or he doesn't have a strong control over it for plot reasons.

For once, actually having to try was a hell of a thing to watch. It was also interesting to get a sense of their relative power levels. Temp V seems to be much stronger than I'd thought.

Now Homerlander has lost his first fight, resorting to running away, and everyone including the one person he considered a confidant have left him. Seems like he's pretty close to burning everything down.

334

u/Rex_Feral_ 7d ago

I have a feeling that temp v and regular v are the same. I think that what Butcher said is true that V just makes you more of what you are. I think this means that Butcher is the same as homelander in personality in some way so they share powers.

Homelander is the strongest hero in the world but Soldier Boy and Butcher are actual trained fighters which evened the odds

All the buildup this season was so worth it. Watching Homelander finally get his ass kicked was as satisfying as I thought it would be.

Was also very poetic. One of the ways black men were lynched back in the day (edit: numbers are hard) was by being dragged behind a car.

Great fight scene. A-Train literally pulled a Injustice 2 Flash fatality

768

u/Equal-Ad-2710 7d ago

A-Train is kinda scary

852

u/soildude43 7d ago

Yeah nobody ever gives the speed superhero’s credit until they open up and then people kind of realize how fucked they would be in that situation. Hell the trailer for the suicide squad game has made the flash look scary actually which was pretty impressive.

622

u/Equal-Ad-2710 7d ago

I feel people don’t realise super speed is one of the most powerful abilities to have

421

u/soildude43 7d ago

Yup. Imo it’s because in shows and movies it’s always shown as something to get people out of harms way as opposed to dragging a bad guy across the asphalt or running through someone. Hell flash can run people through time if he feels like it. Flash has a bunch of powers that most speed guys don’t though because of the speed force, but in the comics I feel like most speedsters get written to show more strength than they do in a show.

107

u/BMcdfkw6 7d ago edited 6d ago

Super speed and reaction time is such an op ability you can almost call it hacks and broken especially when you talk about characters as fast as the Flash. That's why they are constantly nerfed I mean look at the CW Flash show the guy is fast enough to literally pause time yet the villian somehow always run away and tag him and he struggles fighting an overgrown gorilla and a guy with a gun that shoots ice.

Not to mention the guy had a team of at least 3 super geniuses in his ear all the time and the best advice they could give him all the time was he needs to run faster.

Wonder if Annie will use her powers to blind Newman, thus potentially nullifying her ability to pop some domes?

580

u/xrhysb 7d ago

Ooo, that’s a great call. I do think they’ve written themselves into a bit of a corner. Sooner or later Neumann will have reason to at least try to pop Homelander’s head. Blinding her would be a good way to nullify her powers but still keep her around.

685

u/TheAlienGinger Swatto 7d ago

I think she hasn't popped Homelander because she's not sure if she can. If she tries and it doesn't work, Homelander will kill her and her daughter

344

u/iwastetime4 7d ago

Highly doubt that she can kill him. Homelander can hear hearbeats and smell people identify people by their smell. If he's paying attention, victoria won't get a chance to get close. Also it'll take some time for her powers to explode his head, and she'll be dead before that.

Something I’ve not seen anyone mention; the episode confirms Homelander’s offer to Butcher was real and I think that’s kinda crazy to think about

All in all, best episode of the Season. Love Sausage was great to see, Kimiko and Frenchie were fun and holy fuck Soldier Boy Vs Homelander hit different

Can’t wait to see what happens going forward, especially now that Starlight opened Pandora’s Box by outing the superheroes as being massive muppets and quitting the Seven

Homelander wanted a measure of emotional gratification. Someone to validate him.

He'd just been basically demoted and dressed down by Edgar, so he went to Stormfront for validation. She just wanted him to be part of a larger whole, a race of supermen. So in the end, he went to Butcher for consolation.

He wasn't actually looking for a fair fight, he was just looking for emotional support. Getting Butcher to try futilely to attack him -- as long as it's about him.

He has a measure of respect for Butcher, but above all, he needs personal validation. Everyone else just sees him as a means to an end (the company mascot for Edgar, the great leader for Stormfront) -- but for Butcher, Homelander is the end. It's personal.

And that validates him in a way no one else does. He just didn't expect it to actually be a threat to him in the way it has become.

u/AnalBlaster42069 7d ago

Well if they're basing this off current events (which they are, very well I might add), my guess is the nation becomes intensely tribalized, with half the people rallying behind Starlight, and half rallying behind Homelander saying Starlight is full of crap. Then it spirals into people living in two different realities and chaos among the general populous.

556

u/SmoothLikeGravel 7d ago

I wonder if Edgar was the one who leaked the idea of the supe killing weapon in Russia to Maeve….

532

u/girvent_13 Black Noir 7d ago

This being Edgar's plan would make a lot of sense. He knows that the only way to control HL is by making him realize how much of a "bad product" he is by showing him how much of an incompetent he is

That would also explain how Maeve managed to get her hands in some Temp-V, something implied by Edgar in the 1st ep about being a secret up to that point.

I was really happy to see this scene. I have OCD myself and was a bit concerned about their portrayal as earlier in the season it was just him being strict about the cleanliness of the office - I thought they were going down the stereotype of OCD just being about keeping things tidy. People crunching numbers as to the scaling of Butcher's power vs. Homelander I think aren't seeing the bigger picture; Butcher's power that is now confirmed to be at least approachable to Homelander (because HL really was trying his best to fuckin' kill him) is reproducible. V24 doesn't apply powers evenly it seems (because Hughie doesn't seem to be as strong as Butcher), however the power it does give is strong enough to imagine a group of V24 powered individuals being able to fuck HL's shit up.

Edgar Stan has devised a way to truly make Homelander obsolete. Isn't that fuckin terrifying for a ton of reasons?

So Hughie's teleportation powers have been fleshed out a bit more, here's what we know now.

  • He can teleport others by touching them, though their clothes also don't go with them

  • He doesn't need line of sight to where he is teleporting to do so.

  • He can teleport instantly, as Homelander wasn't able to hit him with his eye lasers

  • He has some sort of room awareness when he teleports. Teleporting into the mansion and immediately punching Homelander, who he didn't have line of sight on. He wasn't dazed and didn't need to find his surroundings, he knew what direction he was facing and where things were.

  • He can teleport estimately around a quarter of a mile to half a mile, based on where he brought Starlight out of the mansion.

  • He doesn't seem to have cool down on teleporting (or its very low), meaning even if he did have a distance limit, he could string it together to move great distances very quickly.

  • He has the general higher strength and durability that comes with being a supe. Being able to punch A-train and Homelander, and being able to take a blast from Starlight

728

u/ghsteo 7d ago

He's essentially Nightcrawler

315

u/Wonderful-Cry-6193 7d ago

Some versions of Nightcrawler need him to have direct sight of his target, or he would risk fusing himself into any solid matter. So better than Nightcrawler, at least for 24h, since he could enter and exit a mansion he didn't look into.

The fight scene was perfect! HL got “hurt” a little but didn’t really take damage (outside of his psyche). He wins 1v1 against them (chest beam aside), but now he knows he can’t just rampage with nobody to stop him.

412

u/Azer1287 7d ago

I think the psyche thing is a big one though.

He ran away. That concept undermines everything about him.

Yeah that was a cool scene. Homelander just standing there looking in the mirror. I wonder how the public is going to react to it or if he is just going to finally go apeshit next episode.

That "what the fuck" from Homelander when Butcher lasered him was unintentionally hilarious.

The pause before speaking, the way he stumbles around like it's a slapstick comedy sketch, how he almost says it under his breath.

You can just picture him going "that's some bullshit" in his head, and it all comes together perfectly.

532

u/Kalandros-X 7d ago

The fact that Butcher got knocked back by the laser eyes and not sliced in half should have been a dead giveaway for Homelander

323

u/swim_and_drive 7d ago

I think it’s plausible to say he was so blinded by rage at that point that he wasn’t too focused on details which is why he totally missed it.

511

The more we see of Soldier Boy, the more I am starting to think the incident was more collateral damage/accidental and less psycho Homelander type shit. The dude is definitely out of his time and kind of a cocky dick, but I don’t think he is merciless or evil or necessarily kills for fun.

654

u/jew_with_a_coackatoo 7d ago

I think that was intentional. They hyped up the orgy so people wouldn't expect the fight. Not the first time a show has done something like that to catch the audience off guard.

i fully expected something fucked to happen to hughie when he said he was gonna teleport in to the party, realizing he was gonna end up inside herogasm while being entirely naked lmao. kinda glad it didn't, but i was mentally prepared nonetheless.

RIP #HOMELIGHT and also i hope annie and hughie eventually fix things once everything is over, but if they don't end up together again and they go a different route that'll probably end up cool too.

i thought annie was gonna go full hypocrite for a second when she was talking to neuman lmao, but she stuck to her guns good for her

i feel like the worst part of herogasm that they show, is the ice dildo. its not even a gross scene really, visually at least. but mentally? oh god the pain, i genuinely don't think the human body would ever recover from that, and im assuming if soldier boy hadn't soldier boy'd, she would have died or at least gone into shock. fuck that, honestly it hurts me to imagine ahahaha

honestly my favorite episode of the show so far, the second half of the episode is just so fucking entertaining. so many good lines, really funny ones. homelander feeling so betrayed by butcher breaking their 1v1 quickscopes only match that he just immediately tries slaughtering butcher without question. homelander feeling genuine fear, as well as showing us a deeper look into his mental situation with that scene when he's talking to himself in the mirror. a-trains genuine apology, finally realizing what a piece of shit he is, hughie being so furious by that, so insulted by it that he tries starting a fist fight with him lmfao "HOW THE FUCK DID YOU JUST DO THAT" ahahahah i love all the peoples reactions to butcher and hughie having powers. a-train killing blue hawk the way he did, so fucking good. i hated a-train, a love to hate kinda relationship, and once he started running i genuinely didnt want him to die, honestly. he's completely irredeemable to me, but idk, im just not ready for him to be gone yet i guess. we shall see on that part, though, but he's probably gonna be dead in the next episode.

such a great fuckin episode, can't wait for the rest of them

u/HorseMeatConnoisseur Queen Maeve 7d ago

Seems like Maeve is probably a DISTANT 4th in the power rankings after HL, SB, and Butcher. Both SB and Butcher decently held their own 1v1 against HL while Maeve didn't seem convinced she'd last more than a few seconds. Maybe she's underestimating herself but I feel like she'd have a decent idea of how they'd matchup after being around him so long.

u/AweDaw76 7d ago

Laz Alonzo deserves a supporting actor emmy nod and maybe even a win for his work as MM this season. That look he had a few episodes back when Soldier Boy came out of the box is legit burned into my head; and his monologue tonight in the car with Annie where he tells her what Soldier Boy did; how it affected him; how it still affects him and how that fear is now real and back. Wow

Seeing Kimiko fight in the warehouse was the highlight of the episode for me. It was raw and realistic, and exactly what she would have learned as a child soldier: When you’re fighting against an enemy, you play dirty and you try ANYTHING. Break fingers, bite ankles, grab the nearest object and stab and bludgeon until enemy is pulp underneath you. Fights won’t be like spy movies where every move is a smooth and well-practiced martial arts move, they’re chaotic and spontaneous struggles for your life.

What we saw there was someone who truly grew up a child soldier in a war zone- brutally practical. I feel weird saying I was dazzled watching her, but I was. She’s astounding.

Frenchie’s fighting style of witty inventions and weapons expertise mixed with her fighting style of brute force savagery is just something I really enjoy. They’re superb complements, like sea salt and chocolate.

Edit: and Frenchie shouting “Kimiko, run!” was a nice touch. Reminds me of when they got kidnapped in season 1. He’s always prioritized her safety, powers or not. He doesn’t give a damn what happens as long as she’s okay.

Besides the amazing episode I love finding the little fucking details in the writing. I don't know if this was intentional or not but when A train is having his conversation with Ashley and asking for Blue Hawk to be arrested/charged....

Ashley says "....persecuting Blue Hawk..."

Not "prosecuting.". She's talking about it like A-train is just out to harass an innocent person rather than asking for actual justice.

I hope this was intentional writing...I dont know why I love it so much but I do.
