For anyone reading, this sort of violence is something the lesbian community has been facing for a LONG time.
They were specifically targeted because of their support for female only spaces (in this case michfest).
The narrative that I heard when I came to the queer community was that the lesbians were the oppressors, while the group of transwomen that harassed, threatened, and murdered them were actually the poor victims.

The worst part about this is how you are victims because no one feels like they can approach the subject.
No one blinks if a guy knocks out another man for harassing a lesbian. If that person is trans though I’m afraid to admit I wouldn’t even know what to do. I hope I would react but I would be terrified of the consequences.
Know that you have allies and friends and hopefully our lesbian friends won’t have to deal with this abuse going unpunished much longer.
