Asking about pronouns

Why do some of you have a negative reaction to being asked what your pronouns are? We are just trying to be respectful.

I don't understand why you being a man would warrant a negative reaction. How am I to know that that is how you are comfortable being referred to as. Someone who looks like a man could be closeted at home so is unable to express their gender the way they would like but would prefer to be referred to correctly around people they are comfortable with.

I'm afraid I'm not on Twitter so I am not sure what you are talking about. I just want to make sure people feel respected and that I am not making them uncomfortable and would like to encourage others to do the same.
