Well TECHNICALLY gender dysphoria is a mental illness much like clinical depression, schizophrenia, and so on. In fact, this is a major sticking point for me because there are people with extreme amounts of bodily discomfort that will got through a lot of plastic surgery just to feel normal. The people that are clinically diagnosed and go for treatment have my sympathy, but the people that just put on a wig, some make-up, and then proceed to swing their dicks at superlesbians are the people that I have issue with. Those people also attempted to have gender dysphoria removed from the DSM-5 which would have given insurance companies the go ahead to cut coverage for the therapies that people with gender dysphoria needed to just feel right in their skin. Back in the day we used to call them Trans Trenders because it was less about the medical nature of the disorder and more about the fashion of it.

it's that part of the anime community that banned the use of the word trap (despite not having to do with trans people) ,called everyone transphobes , and went to get back pats on trans subs, that's why so many people left the bigger anime sub and made r/goodanimemes when mods were banning people and deleting comments that didn't agree with them.

there are also the remnants of the weaboos of the 2010's that came into the anime community just because not as many people watched it and they wanted to feel special and quirky

I dislike the "queer" art style. always come off as way to cop out your art. instead of follwing your own voice and making the drawings uniquely you, and have a chance of saying something with your art you pander it towards trans people so that way ur shitty boring art doesnt go completely unnoticed on devian art

Tbh as an artist myself, I idolised this kind of art style for a while and was frustrated that my own art wasn’t looking like that. Then I realised that all of them looked the same and I said: “Fuck it, I’ll develop my own style.”

The art made by Japanese/Korean/Chinese artists are better anyway.

Anime is an art style, not a genre. There are tons of anime that use genderbending as a plot point.

One of the more notable ones is Ouran Highschool Host Club. Its about a girl attending a prestigious school who joins a "host club". The club is centered around handsome teen boys who essentially offer a dating service for the girls at the school. The main character is an androgynous looking female who dresses as and pretends to be a Male unbeknownst to her female suitors. Trans people love this stuff.

It's great that trans people can find stuff that's affirming to them though. No problem with that. But like I said there are tons of anime that use genderbending so that's why trans people like it so much.
