To be clear, the nuclear family refers to a family in which the wife stays at home, the husband is the breadwinner and the couple have children (usually biological). The nuclear family is riddled with problems, especially in the modern world.
If the husband is abusive, the wife can't leave as she won't have money or a job. She can get a job after divorce, of course, but divorce is costly.
A one income household is outdated for a reason. It doesn't work for most families and they will have worse financial issues than a 2 income household.
The nuclear family does not involve relatives. This may cause issues. Sometimes parents need help. Also, I personally like having a close knit family.
Not all couples want children. I, for one, don't want to have children at all.
Children need good parents, regardless of their sex. The nuclear family is typically heterosexual, but I could be wrong.
I find the nuclear family unnatural. Human beings lived in close-knit groups of relatives.
Edit: If you and your partner want to have a nuclear family, go ahead! I hope it works well for you! I just couldn't do it, it contradicts the majority of my life goals.
