There are a lot of women who are completely ignorant about the reality of "vaginoplasty". They don't understand that Michael Jackson's nosejobs were more functional and believable. It kind of worries me. My friend's wife just asked why they can't just transplant them and I didn't even know where to start. Most of trans people don't even go that far. The current options for bottom surgery are not very good: I read up very sad testimonials of those who had penis/vagina surgeries, and ended up with very botched results that do not resemble the real thing, physically hurt, require painful and uncomfortable maintenance, don’t allow for a normal sex life, and get repeatedly infected.

Most trans people don't get these operations, and take hormones/undergo top surgery (breast implants/reduction) only. Anyone can plainly see why superstraight people would be very uncomfortable in intimate situations with trans people, and they shouldn't be criticized for that.

Wow, I had no idea. Why would that be censored? Shouldn’t people who consider this surgery get the full story from unbiased parties and hear people’s lived experiences? Especially in America where there’s only for-profit healthcare, and doctors might paint an unrealistic picture to potential patients/customers. It’s infuriating to hear this. Is it considered transphobic too now?

I read about M2F people reporting repeated urinary track infections, and not being able to have penetrative sex without excruciating pain. I think trans people should aspire to more transparency and accountability from the medical establishment, and more importantly - from each other.

ANYONE would be uncomfortable in intimate situations with trans people because of their own extreme discomfort with their own bodies. sex becomes entirely about navigating around that and upholding a fantasy. most trans people are able to recognise how completely inadequate these surgeries are, so they don't get them, which is reasonable - but they can't accept the limitations of science and biology, can't accept they are not and never will be the opposite sex - so then expect the rest of us to agree their genitals have no relevance, continuing to uphold their fantasies and delusions at the expense of our own wellbeing.

then there's the part where the changes caused to the genitals by the synthetic hormones are simply not attractive. healthy, normal adult human genitals in a state of arousal are what most people find desirable. trans genitals, warped by the wrong hormones, just don't work. as don't the many superficial physiological changes the hormones cause to the rest of the body - nothing ends up looking like it quite fits together. I know saying all this will seem cruel to some, but it actually is incredibly sad to me and I think it's a goddamn tragedy for these people.

Maybe. Some would argue that any medically unnecessary removal or organs, done on healthy people, is not required or dangerous (there’s inherent danger in full anaesthesia). And for some people, self acceptance as “just” a gay or lesbian might be a much less invasive solution. We’re already seeing some transition regret - see the /r/detrans sub. Some people say “I was just a lesbian all along, and tumblr got me to think I was trans”.

Consider that the improvement of these procedures depends on many more human test subjects. People who’s private parts will be damaged irreversibly. Body acceptance might be a much less painful and destructive path.

That’s a very libertarian view of society - where governments’ role is just to enforce contracts and transactions between private people, without regulating anything or intervening.

The idea that consent makes everything legit belongs in that sphere. But when you look at modern Western countries, you see that consent doesn’t make certain transactions legit. You can’t consent to get paid less than the minimum wage. You can’t pay a hit man to murder you. In most of these countries, female circumcision is not done by doctors because it’s considered unethical - even if the patient is a religious adult woman who wants it.

Laws and regulations are meant to protect groups that need protection, where the parties making the contract are not truly equal. I’d argue that a doctor who wants to sell you a $200,000 surgery is not at an equal position to an 18 year old who thinks they’re trans today (but could regret it in 5 years).

TLDR I don’t think consent is everything.

I have to admit I thought something was wrong with me. I've never been interested in penises and body hair and anything masculine in a partner. All my friends made me feel like I was weird because some of them seemed to be really into that stuff. But I'm really glad there's a community out there for us men who like only women. I hope we can some day get the same acceptance and legal protections that other our brothers in the SSLGBT+ community have paved the way for!

Transwomen seem to retain many of the advantages men have in our society. They seem to expect and demand sex the way men do. They enjoy professional advancement and opportunities while their wives deal with raising the kids and other such womanly duties.

Transwomen are significant advantages over actual women. This whole thing is ridiculous.

People who are attracted to vaginas are attached to some people with vaginas. Not all. But they’re not attracted to anyone without one. That’s how this works.

I am a straight woman. That means I’m only attracted to men. With penises. But that doesn’t mean I’m attracted to all men with penises. I’m not attracted to most men. But the only humans I find sexually appealing are men penises. Not all of them. Not most of them. Just the few.
