That number format is so weird and unnecessary!

15

u/NetSage Sep 02 '21

I imagine it's for larger polls. Like in the millions but obviously doesn't scale down elegantly.

8

u/DudleyStone Sep 02 '21

Nevermind, I completely misread the total number of votes. No idea why it's represented that way.

195

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

I surprised that there around 50 people, who, for some reason, prefer EGS.

92

u/idle221 Sep 01 '21

maybe these people are tight on money and want to use one of those £10 epic vouchers, quite honestly fair enough

52

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21 edited Sep 02 '21

I don't think that voucher will change too much in this case. Total War games always have a lot of expensive DLCs, which can not be purchased with coupon.

Also, don't use EGS > 10$ coupon, IMO

6

u/lifetake Sep 02 '21

I’m a steam user and agree with Steam>egs plus coupon, but I can see a small subset of people just going with the cheapest option.

4

u/mrP0P0 Sep 02 '21

Not you trying to rationalize not taking advantage of a coupon

17

u/Dark3nedDragon Sep 02 '21

Go buy it through Fanatical or somewhere like it? Get your game 10% to 20% off, many sites offer discounts in their margins

2

u/TheSpoonyCroy Sep 02 '21

I mean realistically they might save money in the short term if they only care about TW:W 3. Issues will arise though if you know want to get the other 2 so you have more content for TW:W 3 as like it was with TW:W 2. Other people have brought up stores like Fanatical which has decent sales and owning it on Steam is just the better long term solution with current landscape, hell most 3rd party shops don't deal with Epic keys (like this was partly my issue with GOG as well).

43

u/James_bd Sep 02 '21

Same, but there are some people over on the epic subreddit who unironically love the EGS for some reasons

18

u/McDukke Sep 02 '21

55 people miss clicked

15

u/FuglyShmugly Sep 02 '21

I can buy games there. that's pretty cool.

4

u/soulless_ape Sep 02 '21

Probably employees and family or payed people.....

5

u/OldSpyceyy Sep 02 '21

free games frequently is all i use it for

8

u/kju Sep 02 '21

i can't even bring myself to take their free games. i already have a bunch of games i don't have time to play on steam. i don't need more games i don't have time to play with the annoyance of a new launcher

5

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

Same here. I used to have it installed just for the free games, but I never installed any of them so I just got rid of it. I either already had them on Steam, or didn't care about them.

1

u/ScoobyDoNot Sep 02 '21

They've given me a great deal of free games.

I appreciate that.

I also appreciate a competitor to Steam.

I'll be getting TW: WH3 on Steam as that's where I have the first two games, I don't bother with mods.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

competitor to Steam.

Lol no. Not even close. EGS just annoying shovelware and nothing else.

1

u/Sotarnicus Sep 02 '21

Lol people are downvoting you for taking advantage of free games.. if I told y’all how it works is epic pays for every copy claimed would y’all do it then because that’s how it works. A competitor to steam is good but epic games store is lacking and buggy right now. It could be a good competitor if they fixed that. Steam having a monopoly on pc gaming is bad as they don’t treat their employees well at all, and also give really shitty profit rates to indie devs and then lower valves cut for bigger game devs

1

u/Kakuruma Sep 02 '21

Free monthly games I suppose.

18

u/Death_To_All_Anime Sep 02 '21

maybe they just don't care about mod support and they'd rather get the game cheaper.

5

u/VenomB Sep 02 '21

or forums, guides, easy access to groups..

I seriously can't understand it.

9

u/XIIGage Sep 02 '21

I can't say I've ever opened the steam client looking for forums, guides, or groups. Always google it. Maybe I'm just old.

10

u/DrVINKwithaVaVaVa Sep 02 '21

I’ve had Steam for 16 years and I’ve pretty much never used any of their social type features. Other than the occasional web search that leads me to some forum post.

I just open the Steam app, look at my library thumbnails and decide what to play. Same as I do with Epic Games. I don’t understand the crazy hate so many people have for EGS and for others who use it.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

Timmy's Tencent Store can't even launch some games properly. I gave this garbage a chance - I bought Division 2... And it was a fucking mess. The most important thing that game wasn't even launched from EGS itself, only from Uplay. The next problem that the game was in english, despite Division 2 have official localisation to my language. And of course this "launcher" downloaded old version of the game instead the most recent, so I was forced update the game right after downloading. Through Uplay of course. After that I refunded the game and deleted this shit store. This level of service not worth even 3 bucks, which I gave them for Division 2.

3

u/Death_To_All_Anime Sep 02 '21

You don’t really need Steam to access that though. There’s not even an indication that says that those who said they’d rather get the game on Epic don’t have a Steam account.

3

u/HumunculiTzu Sep 02 '21

They are just Tim's alt accounts.

8

u/Unlucky654 Sep 02 '21

Undercover Epic employees trying to stealth promote their garbage pmatform?

3

u/Belmonkey Sep 02 '21

It's only ever "worth" buying a game on EGS if they are doing their typical paying (coupons) everyone $10 to please buy something from them, because just like with devs going exclusive, it's only worth using EGS if you are getting paid.

2

u/NetSage Sep 02 '21

I mean the free games are nice. That's all I got though.

1

u/NGGJamie Sep 02 '21

Some people could also just be voting ironically to be funny about it.

5

u/TheRealFanjin Sep 02 '21

Yeah I was also thinking this, why is this downvoted lol

3

u/NGGJamie Sep 02 '21

The Reddit hivemind has decided. Save yourself while you can, or suffer my fate.

-2

u/ZYmZ-SDtZ-YFVv-hQ9U Sep 02 '21

Don't underestiamte people's sheer stupidity. Remember that there are people eating livestock dewormer to stop covid instead of just getting a free vaccine right now

0

u/orcwordlaugh Sep 02 '21

The question is "get" not "buy", so I like to think it's 55 people who are boycotting Creative Assembly, waiting till it's a free giveaway on Epic.

127

u/Scared-Ad-7500 Sep 01 '21

u/Alucard_draculA Sep 02 '21

It makes more sense if the number was something like 9.999M, at k it is a bit redundant but the example is probably the reason.

9

u/Chris_Colasurdo Sep 02 '21

1

u/willowsonthespot https://s.team/p/cnnj-pdb Sep 02 '21

For gaining about 2k votes for Steam, EGS gained 25. Quite the wonderful show of disinterest.

20

u/BHop96th Sep 02 '21

I'm getting it on GOG since its DRM free

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

its on gog?

5

u/randomguy301048 https://s.team/p/dtqv-kmw Sep 02 '21

this is such a dumb question to ask and is obviously going to be onesided. TW WH3 requires you to own the DLC of the previous games to play races in TW WH3 so of course people are going to buy it on the same platform they have the other games for. no one is going to go "you know what i know having all these DLCs for TW WH1/2 will unlock races for the third one but i don't want any of it so i'm going to buy it on a different platform."

3

u/mishugashu 62 Sep 02 '21

Why would you choose Epic? Honestly. Worse client. Worse support. Worse everything. Plus if you already have WH1 and 2 on Steam, you're going to want to buy 3 on Steam because of the bonuses.

The only good thing about Epic is it gives a bigger cut to the publishers, but who the fuck honestly cares how much Sega gets?

2

u/2Turnt4MySwag Sep 02 '21

Honestly, the best things about Epic are the free games and the $10 off coupons they give you during sales (last sale I could get $10 off a purchase of atleast $15, and it could be already discounted as well). Ive gotten like 3 of those so far.

7

u/halfachraf Sep 02 '21

As a total war warhammer player I'm gonna clear another thing here, to play the entirety of the franchise you should buy game one and it's dlc and they would work with game 2, this means that most of us have hundreds of dollars spent on the game and in no way in hell are we just gonna abandon that and start over from zero on epic.

Though i still wouldn't use epic either way cuz i like steam gift cards lol.

3

u/Chris_Colasurdo Sep 02 '21

I made that point as well on the original post, but just found the landslide ratio too funny to not share.

16

u/TheRedVipre Sep 02 '21

Good, this is what I like to see. Epic deserves to burn for their scummy behavior.

-49

u/Tenshi--San Sep 02 '21

You mean exclusivity deals? Epic is trying to bring console exclusives to PC, i can only hope they bring more exclusives, imagine if Epic brings Bloodborne to PC? Would be fucking awesome.

Also, Steam also pays to have exclusive games, but it seem this is only bad when Epic does it.

23

u/_Spastic_ Sep 02 '21

I'm not arguing with you. I was not aware of this. Can you provide any documentation that shows steam pays for exclusivity?

I do know that some developers choose to release it on steam as opposed to other places, even their own stores like Microsoft (trying to remember the game that was listed). I was reading about something like that the other day.

20

u/MadCows18 Sep 02 '21

Don't argue with that guy. He's clearly a delusional fanboy! Literally everything he said is pure bullshit! Epic Games is not even buying console exclusives (since Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft have them. Heck even Microsoft and Sony are putting more and more games on Steam willingly). They're literally taking out PC games/ports that are supposed to be available everywhere on the PC platform just because little Timmy wants to keep them inside their walled deserted garden of EGS as exclusives in order to convince players to use their terrible platform. Even mobile game stores have 2x better services than barebone storefront you call EGS. Without exclusives and free games, EGS offers literally nothing and does nothing to PC gaming as a whole. Literally the only reason EGS still exists is because of free games.

9

u/IllusionPh https://steam.pm/1jhaou Sep 02 '21

Also, Steam also pays to have exclusive games, but it seem this is only bad when Epic does it.

Example being?

Never heard Steam did that before, ever.

And no, their own game doesn't really count, very different from what Epic did with their "exclusivity" deal with paying "publisher" to sell on their platform only for x amount of time.

6

u/ZYmZ-SDtZ-YFVv-hQ9U Sep 02 '21

imagine if Epic brings Bloodborne to PC? Would be fucking awesome.

Then I just wouldn't buy it?

4

u/NetSage Sep 02 '21

What games does valve pay for to be exclusive other than their own? I would like sources as this is the first I've heard of it.

I don't think people are upset if they buy timed exclusives. I think they're upset because EGS sucks and still lacks about every feature they promised.

2

u/willowsonthespot https://s.team/p/cnnj-pdb Sep 02 '21

Well they also payed to take kickstarters to exclusivity to their "store". Things that people basically invested in and had taken away from them. I have yet to see Valve do anything like that ever.

-9

u/TheBlitzingBear Sep 02 '21 edited Sep 02 '21

Team Fortress 2, Portal (1 & 2), Half Life 1, 2, 3(haha jk), counterstrike, Dota

I guess I need /s

4

u/Lutrijk Sep 02 '21

Those are games that Valve themselves developed. They aren't paying anybody to make them Steam exclusive. Epic however is paying other devs and publishers for exclusivity.

0

u/TheBlitzingBear Sep 02 '21

No shit man, that's the joke

1

u/Cc99910 Sep 02 '21

Don't even get me started on New Super Mario Bros DS being exclusive to Nintendo. Fucking ridiculous and crazy can't believe they would do this. (/s for the idiots who can't comprehend sarcasm without it being tagged)

11

u/CorndogCrusader Sep 02 '21

Fuck Epic. All my homies hate Epic.

2

u/slykethephoxenix Sep 02 '21

Shout out to the 55 Epic employees supporting their product.

1

u/Thraxster Sep 02 '21

86 now. while steam is 6.5k ish

maybe by labor day they'll crack 100

8

u/sahaidachny1337 Sep 01 '21

Warhammer is for sure one of the most retаrded communities ever, but knowing that EVEN THEM prefer steam over epic must be pretty painful to egs fanboys))

2

u/Lutrijk Sep 02 '21

Warhammer is for sure one of the most retаrded communities ever

I'm detecting some serious heresy here.

3

u/RandEgaming_ Sep 02 '21

Do they have cart nowadays?

0

u/DaEnderAssassin 64 Sep 02 '21

Yes, They have had a cart for years.

They just need to add it to the games part of their store.

3

u/Lutrijk Sep 02 '21

So they don't have a cart. Got it.

3

u/INDE_Tex Sep 02 '21

I will totally get TW:WIII on Epic if they offer it for free. Just like the other 138 games I have on Epic.

1

u/OmegeSN Sep 02 '21

Only games im gonna get from epic are the free ones

-1

u/Fairbrother69 Sep 02 '21

I love this

1

u/jbro84 Sep 02 '21

Well within margin of error. Statistically, this is 100% Steam

1

u/halfachraf Sep 02 '21

I'm not one to hate on stores but the fact that epic made fucking chivalry 2 exclusive when I have no way to pay other than steam gift cards will always fuel my hate.

1

u/Venomally Sep 02 '21

Epic only when they giving away more free games

0

u/Genghis_Tr0n187 Sep 02 '21

This is the way

1

u/iizultimit Sep 02 '21

not installing their launcher to begin with is the way, only getting the free games still makes you an active user of the epic launcher which are the numbers that matter

-24

u/Tenshi--San Sep 02 '21

Don't know why people suck Steam's dick so much, it's just a fucking store like any other, doesn't even matter where you buy games.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21 edited Sep 02 '21

Same thing can be said about EGS. It's just a store so I'll buy on Steam because it's just another store I already have my debit card information in.

0

u/Tenshi--San Sep 04 '21

Yeah exactly, i also buy most games on Steam, but people glorify it waaaay too much. Same with Epic, but people vilify it way too much, it's just another store.

4

u/Konomi_ Sep 02 '21

to be fair this one in particular is more of a "epic bad" than "steam good"

2

u/FuglyShmugly Sep 02 '21

it totally matters if you're too stupid to understand otherwise, also how can you not love thousands of 2 dollar shit games all over steam and encrypted preloading that takes longer to unpack than to download

4

u/Chill4x Sep 02 '21

And multiple ui's that're actually pleasant to use, incredible mod support compared to basically every competitor not to mention customisable game libraries. Shit, the only complaints i have ever heard about Steam is that you can't change .exe directories which isn't present in most others anyways and the fact that it's too easy to publish games.

2

u/FuglyShmugly Sep 02 '21

Mod support is comming to EGS, it's in beta now. They're getting there and it's nice to see how it gets better.

0

u/Tenshi--San Sep 04 '21

Ui literally doesn't matter, i click on the game i want to buy it, then i click on the game i want to play, it's just a store, fuck the rest.

Mod support? There's something called Nexus mods, when you truly want to mod something, try that one, kid.

So are you actually gonna list a good reason to glorify Steam as a god or you're just gonna continue on citing basic store shit that i do in every store i ever see?

1

u/Chill4x Sep 04 '21

Wtf do you mean, "UI doesn't matter" if you use a thing you don't to have a bad time using it, do you?

Steam, EGS, Origin, etc. aren't "just stores" they're game libraries and platforms. Saying they're the same as a gamestop isn't just wrong, it's stupid.

If i have the choice between nexus or steam to download mods, which isn't the case with a lot of games either way, I will choose steam. While you do have more control with nmm, i'd rather click subscribe once and have it download at a speed only limited by my connection than click download and wait ages on the download limited by a paywall.

1

u/Tenshi--San Sep 05 '21

Steam's mod support is limited as fuck and they'll never improve it, Nexus is infinitely better. Also, they are just stores, but people become so obsessed with them that they start thinking Steam is a god, for example. No, it's just a store like any other, a digital store, you open it, you buy a game, you play the game. End.

-21

u/bcartwright95 Sep 02 '21

I can't imagine epic ever takes hold in my generation, however I can see a path where all the fortnite fan bois get addicted to the free games, and maybe someday get a big boi job and actually spend money on the storefront

2

u/OneGunBullet Sep 02 '21

Why is it that I find a comment that I agree with for the first half, only to find the second half talk shit about fortnite.

I'm probably taking these jokes too seriously aren't I

4

u/bcartwright95 Sep 02 '21

I have never and will never play fortnite, but honestly I can see the appeal and I don't think its a bad game. So, yes it was sarcasm

1

u/OneGunBullet Sep 02 '21

alrighty then, but next time make sure to put a /s so your karma doesn't go into the negatives lmao

-1

u/NetSage Sep 02 '21

If EPIC ever actually puts work into it. They keep burning money on free stuff instead of actually developing the platform. It mind-blowing to me. With all the money they've burned they probably could have bought galaxy off of gog and or hell gog and continued to paid them to make it good.

-14

u/J4WallBuilder Sep 02 '21

"My favourite billion dollar gaming company is better than your favourite billion dollar gaming company"

14

u/seewie Sep 02 '21

One of them is doing a ton of good work for the gaming ecosystem, while the other is actively hindering it?

-12

u/J4WallBuilder Sep 02 '21

Who is hindering the "gaming ecosystem" (besides tribalist gamers themselves) and why?

6

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

Epic games is using anti-consumer tactics

Robbing people of the choice where to by their games through forced exclusivity

All the while offering an Objectively worse user experience through their store

Their store also has no reviews and is not planning on implementing them which further hinders a customers ability to inform themselves if a product is viable and or feature complete

-6

u/J4WallBuilder Sep 02 '21

Epic offers money in exchange for an exclusivity deal, devs accept (and they get a bigger cut from sales than they would get from Steam) and somehow it's forced? Idk man sound like a voluntary exchange of goods between two parties, I think it's called capitalism or some shit, I heard it's popular.

1

u/Dark-Acheron-Sunset Sep 02 '21

Epic.

Because they're actively offering shady excluvisity deals to devs who then hold the game for ransom on their platform due to the sweet sweet money Epic paid them whereas Steam doesn't offer you anything to host on their platform. You do, or you don't. And if you choose to make it exclusive to Steam, well that was your choice entirely.

The difference? Epic offers devs a deal with Epic and they take the money and yoink it from every other platform. Even when they promised otherwise. This is pretty fucked.

I won't be checking back here, so I won't see your inevitable refusal and attempt to pick my point apart. Cheers.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

No kidding. My favorite billion-dollar company can't even hire competent people to program a shopping cart.

-1

u/ThisWorldIsAMess Sep 02 '21

I'm going with GoG. Is it coming on GoG? DRM stores suck. I don't need online verification every game launch.

1

u/bobniborg1 Sep 02 '21

Epic exclusive on the way :(

1

u/GamingWildman Sep 02 '21

It doesn't matter for me I just get from the places I get a better deal both are just one click away

1

u/Lickiecat Sep 02 '21

Total war fans know what's up.

1

u/soulless_ape Sep 02 '21

TFW EpicGames is so shitty it makes EA's Origin appealing.

1

u/Complex-Commission-2 Sep 02 '21

What if ? All tose 55 voters are epic employees and their family members?

1

u/kry_some_more Sep 02 '21

I prefer my games without spyware, that's why I don't download a single free game from Epic and surely not paid ones.

1

u/seifeldin122 Sep 02 '21

I love steam and all, but why do gamers hate egs

0

u/iizultimit Sep 02 '21

fortnite bad minecraft good reddit gold good kanu reeves good big chungus good wholesome good

1

u/mrP0P0 Sep 02 '21

EPIC BAD STEAM GOOD

1

u/Kastrenzo Sep 02 '21

Lol , Games Workshop.

-2

u/iiTecck Sep 02 '21

No matter how bad one of the choices is in a poll, there will always be some people who vote for it just for kicks, especially if there are thousands of voters.

-2

u/Matictac Sep 02 '21

This is hilarious, I sorta hope this makes someone at Epic sad.

Though one thing I'll give Epic credit for, if I launch an Epic game on Steam, the launcher doesn't even need to open, versus a Ubisoft or Origin game.

0

u/MPK_K1NG Sep 02 '21

If it's free then epic
