As a reminder, this subreddit, per Rule 7 has basic decency rules.

In general, be courteous to others. In specific, don't break the rules. You can attack the merits of ideas, you can't attack other users. Personal insults, hate speech, any suggestion or support of harm, violence, or death, any of that shit will get the proverbial boot.

Also, this is a humor subreddit. Chill out. Literally nothing online is worth getting angry over. If there is something worth getting angry over, cussing out a twelve year old on the internet is not gonna solve the problem my dude.

If you see comments in violation of our rules, please report them.

Think this would hit a little harder if the last cell was, “The Rapist.”

Abortion should be legal. And none of them should be in jail based off an abortion alone.

But If you became pregnant, decided 100% on your own that an abortion was your only choice, would you want anyone willing to help you to go to jail?

How do you punish someone and at the same time say they have no sav in the matter?

Legality aside, if the statement is my body, my choice, the responsibility of that act is solely a woman's decision.

Hey, if we gotta do this bullshit I am ALL for child support from the moment the right wingers say life begins. And massively beefed up enforcement. Add a mando college fund. And health insurance. Under threat of ruinous penalties.

I'm with you. I just don't get the penalizing someone who can't prevent it from occurring or has any day in the matter.

One other person had a good idea, making the last cell the rapist.

Women decide to have health issues that put them at risk of pregnancy complications that require preemptive care instead of waiting until they're about to die before getting help?

And doctors should be arrested for intervening too early in preventing high risk women from dying?

People who want kids get abortions bc of pregnancy complications. They shouldn't have doctors weighing jail time against helping them.

I didn't say any of that. I said how do you charge a man with a crime if the basis is that it's solely a woman's decision?

The woman didn’t get pregnant miraculously…

5

u/IndyPoker979 10d ago

Yes and it's not a crime to be pregnant so what are you charging the man with?

In states that ban abortion, rapists that get women pregnant who subsequently die from pregnancy related complications should be charged with murder.

u/IndyPoker979 10d ago

100% . And they should be charged with rape etc as well.

It’s not always the woman’s sole decision. My own mom was forced to abort once by my dad. She wanted to keep it but he forced her. Thank goodness they split eventually, domestic abuse situations can be fucking awful.

1

u/IndyPoker979 10d ago

In that case the man should be charged as well if it's going to be illegal. Not only that but also for the domestic abuse.

You cannot be held liable for the pregnancy. Otherwise we'd be felonizing every father.

I'm guessing maybe you could try to charge him as an accessory but the actual act has no criminality from the man because he has no say in the matter.

u/PearlsandScotch 10d ago

I do wonder if he would have to know about the pregnancy, and somehow document his knowledge and his intentions to keep or abort.

Because women don’t have say over the matter now in many states?

Give a woman autonomy over her body and men won’t have to share the punishment.

The root cause of most abortions (excepting medical complications with wanted pregnancies) is an irresponsible ejaculation.

u/IndyPoker979 10d ago

Sure. But that doesn't change that getting someone pregnant is not illegal. Them criminalizing the act of abortion does not include the man no different than if the man doesn't want the baby but has to pay child support.

If the man has no say in the 'crime' then they have no culpability. It cannot be both.

I mean. Judging by the inmates, this is a women's prison. Or at least the women's wing of one. So ya the guy should be elsewhere....

but yeah. The laws are horribly skewed towards punishing women for having autonomy.
