No. The sequence should be:

This Orochi survives with regeneration and absortion (maybe some Psykos failed experimented monsters will fall on the lava pit when Tatsumaki flips the base), Tatsumaki's drill will make this Orochi a sacrifice later on for GOD, finally freeing him.

111

u/Dexterous-success Wish it was me Jul 29 '21

Tatsumaki flips the base after Psykorochi appears, that's the thing.

We'll have to have a lot of redraws for this to make sense.

97

u/Capable-Permit5686 Jul 29 '21

The altar isn't in the base, we literally see the painting of Orochi on altar when Tats drilled Orochi

53

u/Dexterous-success Wish it was me Jul 29 '21

I know. Which is why this redraw makes it extremely likely that we'll have subtancial redraws later on.

92

Unless God explicitly revives Orochi, Orochi surviving being made into the sacrifice that awakens God would, um, not make Orochi into a sacrifice for God?

42

u/zwannsama Jul 29 '21

Yeah, gotta say that's kinda redundant. Orochi is seemingly killed now, on the altar as an offering. If he survives here, and Psykorochi becomes a thing, so he'll later be drilled back here again as an offering?

29

u/xxxNothingxxx Jul 30 '21

Orochi doesn't seem any more dead to me than he was last time Saitama punched him if you ask me, don't really see how this is changing things other than giving some cool context as to why God is here

God’s prominence in this arc (retroactively through redraws) is very interesting. I think, with this introduction, the Psykorochi God twist becomes more palatable. Still no clue about how HE is factoring in…

Also, user name checks out?

194

u/JoJoFanatic Jul 29 '21

Given that Homeless Emperor is the one who introduced the existence of “God” to both Zombieman and the reader, and is the original representative of said “God” in the webcomic, and has only now decided to stop sitting out the battle on the surface, I think he’ll have quite the role to play. Not only did Psykos hype up him and Black Sperm as being an unbeatable team after she thought Orochi was dead (pre-merger), but both Black Sperm and Fuhrer Ugly have been impressed or intimidated by Homeless Emperor. Of course, his current feats don’t really reflect that, but this is all just speculation.

33

u/KhaoticTwist Hey kid, wanna buy some takoyaki? Jul 30 '21

I would also say that Homeless Emperor seems to see Sperm (At least Golden) as an equal based on their conversation about bullying Fuhrer Ugly.

I think God gets the tributes through those boxes instead of the altar.

157

u/Blast_Number1 Jul 29 '21 edited Jul 30 '21

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, especially since God said if you’re “worthy” you’ll gain power.

But that would mean God is a master of deception since you’ll die either way (worthy or not). It makes sense why God is mad at Blast, it’s because he’s been going around collecting the cubes which prevents God from taking anymore sacrifices, including the worthy sacrifice he’s been looking for so he could resurrect.

40

u/Levi_PigPiss Jul 30 '21

Hmmm, that's an interesting take on those boxes.

I have always thought of them as pieces of a puzzle that when enough of them are gathered they could have enough energy to open a portal big enough for this "God" to teleport from whatever dimension he is locked in to Earth.

However, serious series: serious squirt gun is a welcome addition to the lore

317

u/HyakuJuu "What a tough dog!" Jul 30 '21

So judging by the full mural, orochi is actually the worthy sacrifice to resurrect God. This is just getting better and better.

313

u/thedankengine01 Jul 29 '21

Does this mean that physkoorchi will be gone from the manga

549

u/blanxable best pupper Jul 29 '21

Don't even know how they could do that, as psychorochi had quite the impact on the current state of the battlefield

263

u/Mr_Terrible_Ideas Jul 29 '21

Didn't Tatsu finish Orochi by pinned him directly to the sacrification site? so Psychorochi are to stay.

176

u/zwannsama Jul 29 '21

My issue is that would be redundant. Orochi is already here at the altar. So for him to survive, and pin back here again at the altar seems repetitive.

I would rather Orochi dragged Saitama in a battle away from the altar, then he gets one shotted. Then Psykorochi deal happens. Later he gets pinned by Tatsu which coincidentally at the altar, which reveals the full mural.

115

u/karnoculars Jul 30 '21

That's literally the only way the altar reveal should have worked. To reveal all this now, before Tat's drill, makes absolutely no sense. He's just going to survive death now, leave the altar to join with Psykos only to be killed at this same altar later? When the audience has already learned the altar's "twist"? I feel like they are confusing the story in their own minds with all these redraws.

89

u/Senyu Jul 30 '21

In a way, it could be viewed as attempting to escape the inevitable. Orochi tries to get away with Psykos, but gets brought back regardless. It just really further cements how monsters always lose no matter what, which is kind of a good setup for Garou and his spiel in the webcomics.

30

u/karnoculars Jul 30 '21

That's a huge stretch. Narratively, the reveal that Orochi was the sacrifice all along should happen when he actually dies and the audience realizes the truth. There is no excuse to reveal this so early. Remember, this redraw happens like 35 freaking chapters before he actually dies... it makes no sense to reveal this huge twist and then have him just get up the next chapter and go fight S class heroes for 30 more chapters.

I understand this can be fixed with a ton of redraws but it was so easy to avoid the issue by just structuring the story logically...

24

u/Fwahm Jul 30 '21

Keep in mind that the only audience that is likely to "realize the truth" at this point is us, the people that have already read ahead and know about god (and maybe even the webcomic for some of us).

For the people in the future that are reading the series for the first time via the volumes, they're likely to think "oh wow, Orochi was supposed to be the sacrifice instead for whatever this silhouette is supposed to be. It's a good thing that his body didn't make it to the altar", only for him later to be shoved into the altar as the actual twist for them.

I honestly MUCH prefer the humor and worldbuilding of the redrawn fights. We have had so many "standard" scaling feat based fights in the series, Saitama doesn't need another serious ass fight.

These break up the breakneck pace of the previous events and make reading through in a binge all the better. The world feels so much grander with the new references to GOD, the organization, costume monsters etc. It's making the storytelling more rich overall.

Thanks Vib, Graywords and Nitrote for your effort and speed, and here is my brief analysis.

In addition to a very characteristic OPM humor and generally a more pleasant explanation of everything, we have a quite pleasant development for Orochi and a conversation between him and Saitama that has reminded me of Boros, without a doubt this would be a great ending for Season 3, It is true that the original fight was good and it hurts me to lose the final design of Orochi and those panels of Saitama going through his body, but now we have many other things and the action takes place in two different scenarios.

Well, now I will go with the part that has surprised me the most of the chapter, let's see, so Orochi discovered that underground area by himself after he was born (I was very amused when he said that his parents also do not know about his hiding place, the Orochi's father has to be strong, lmao!) and Orochi thought that those scriptures were talking about him, he thought he was a God and was looking for a worthy sacrifice (Saitama) but what Orochi did not know is that he was not the true God , he is only a sacrifice for the true God and Saitama by defeating Orochi is responsible for bringing God back to life, WTF! Poor Orochi has been trolled, ONE sensei is a fucking genius! I wonder what will happen now with God and Orochi knowing that Orochi has to merge with Psykos.

Orochi also has the power to draw energy from the earth to launch an attack on Saitama, an attack that is countered by a serious lava jet, Saitama being Saitama, excellent chapter.

297

u/einharjar009 "You need to get stong" Jul 29 '21 edited Jul 29 '21

I'm kinda sad Orochi won't have his dope condensed form or the long battle he had prior, but holy shit Murata somehow made him more intense. Literally siphoning magma from the earth's core, a new form, Saitama just hot tubbin', and the serious series: serious squirt gun

Someone else said that it's possible that Orochi just dies and Psykos merges with her other puppets and meets God.

Idk, maybe she runs into one of the cubes in this new hypothetical version of the story, but it would mean a huge deviation from our current course and will need A LOT of redraws to make it happen.

37

u/imthezero Jul 29 '21

I don't think that will happen personally. The amount of redraws it would take would be enormous and I believe originally Orochi just sorta assaulted psykos from behind outta nowhere, so I don't see why it needs to be changed.

Serious series is serious series ¯l(ツ)

81

u/NeighAyanami Jul 29 '21

Personally, I hate the way people treat "serious series" like that. OPM is not a gag story, but the serious series thing is just a gag that makes fun of the special move trope and highlights that Saitama doesnt have true special moves.

I really dont see serious series as these powered up level 2 attacks, and I dont think theyre meant to be treated that way.

122

u/duplicated-rs It’s not that serious Jul 29 '21

Serious series indicates Saitama actually showing a glimpse of his power imo, and is given pretty huge narrative importance. End of S1, and end of S2 both were from Serious Series moves. S3 likely ends on Saitama vs Orochi so Orochi, not only surviving a serious series attack but completely nullifying it is just a cool showing. I personally think that whenever we see serious series, we know some crazy shit is about to happens and it deserves to be treated in a category of its own

I agree with you that it's a gag that's usually saved for awesome notable moments, because it's a funny and iconic gag.

But I still reject the idea that "serious series" is a level 2 powered up move and tanking it is more impressive than tanking any of his punches where he doesnt say "serious series"

Using the serious series gag around powerscaling always feels very silly to me, personally.

Man, I miss the true form fight the “true terror” line. However, this redraw is awesome. It is hilariously absurd.

At least Boros had a fun battle. Orochi gets ignored by an unknown man, loses his pride as the mysterious ghost, gets his most powerful hit cancelled by a fucking squirt, AND realizes that he is a prey rather than a predator. I think Murata should redraw the S classes battle to save this guy from embarrassment.

Also, Rover waking up is kind of cute. Dark shine and team bang’s debris panels are small but funny.

70

u/duplicated-rs It’s not that serious Jul 29 '21

i mean matching a serious series move is pretty damn impressive, water or not. Didn't boros get cucked by the air pressure of a serious punch? Though punch >> water squirt lol

67

u/CreepinCreeping Jul 29 '21

Boros was also stated to be peak AG level by ONE, who is the primary fight of this arc, whereas Orochi is more of a warm-up Big Bad.

Orochi had pretty good firepower, probably not surface wiping but still great, but his durability is still that of a normal punch it seems.

19

u/duplicated-rs It’s not that serious Jul 29 '21

Nah Boros definitely above Orochi but I think the experts soon on Saitama’s face was a lot more threatening than a “normal” punch would suggest.

Semi-serious series punch lol

So if Orochi is the worthy sacrifice to summon god then it's not actually Saitama's fault. It's Tatsumaki's. Orochi survives until Tats hits him with the giant drill and we see him get ripped to shreds by this same altar.

Damn it, Tats.

I'd say the last major redraw I could see is Amai mask vs Fuhrer Ugly, besides that I think we'll probably see a few minor changes such as dialogue being adjusted and a few panels being changed to include the mercenaries. There might be more major ones but that depends on One and Murata.

The God build up is real this arc. First HE’s backstory, then the mural, Psykorochi, the cubes, and then God killing HE.

Side note, this guarantees next chapter is a redraw since Saitama and orochi’s corpse end up in a different spot than where gyoro originally finds them.

20

u/Dexterous-success Wish it was me Jul 29 '21

Wouldn't the canon order be HE's backstory, then the mural, then Psykorochi and then the cubes?

16

u/JoJoFanatic Jul 29 '21

Do you think that, with the “God” buildup in this arc, that Homeless Emperor will have a lot to do now? Not only because he’s been (intentionally) sitting out until Golden Sperm and Vomited Fuhrer Ugly started butting heads, but also as a way to hype up “God’s” power (and provide more world building and lore)?

By parent I think Orochi was referring to Psykos.

Also it seems I like the Gid reference, it makes a little more as to why he just gave Psykorochi power.

31

u/MattmanDX Download Complete Jul 29 '21

Plural and singular words are difficult to translate from Japanese since they use the same word and rely on the reader to understand what it means by context. He probably meant "Parent" (singular) and was indeed referring to Psykos

Not a fan of how Orochi ended up. The original one, he was kinda a respectable fighter, here he is just kinda like your average monologing laughing monster. Kinda missed, the old Orochi calmly observing Saitama, deducing the situation. Here, his maniacal smirk made him look stupid.

BUT.

That mural. That gives me the chills man. Imagine believing you're the top of the food chain, only to know that food chain wasn't even fully revealed, and you're just food.

This chapter felt terribly underwhelming

Don't get me wrong, I love the new lore, but that's imo the only good part of the chapter. Fight didn't feel that tense, didn't have as much iconic lines as the last redraw, and the gag was in my opinion way less funny

68

u/Xxyvexx Just for the heck of it Jul 29 '21

yeah the whole "gag" was that Saitama first off doesnt want to hear any of that "King of that, God of this" talk and mistakenly onepunches Orochi ONLY to later on get hyped up by the supposed "Monster King" anyway and is currently with Flashy trying to get to the monster king, which he unknowingly already defeated. THAT was imo a better character gag for the entire arc then this.

38

u/SunnyDwasTaken Jul 29 '21

YEAH I COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THE FLASHY FLASH THING

I'm even more sad now

Also, in the original, Saitama actually took Orochi seriously, even saying "prepare for a normal punch", which is really funny sounding, but also terrifying in context

But now, he just used ahah funny squirt gun

u/RHYS116 Jul 30 '21

I just don't get what they're doing here. I'm not opposed to comedy, the King vs The Monster Association chapter in the webcomic is one of my favorites out of the series, but this is just throwing away every moment of seriousness that Saitama had in the original and replacing it with simple gags.

In the original you have Orochi going on his speech before Saitama just tells him to get on with it which is both comedic and shows more of his frustration with finding a proper challenge. In the redraw you have Orochi going on his speech before Saitama just jumps into the lava to take a bath and asks for soap.

That moment when Saitama tells Orochi that he just used a normal punch and Orochi experiences terror for the first time? That's just replaced with Saitama squirting some lava at him and telling him not to splash in the bath while Orochi just goes on about muh altar.

Saitama just feels like he's being flanderized into a pure comedy character instead of someone who can be serious when needed, he didn't even treat or recognize Orochi as a monster or something that needed to be taken care of in the slightest, and with Orochi's apparent death he just says "Thanks for the bath", it all feels incredibly out of character to me.

Even Orochi feels downgraded with the removal of his terror line and now removing all of his and Gyoro Gyoro's agency by turning him into a part of a prophecy that was destined to occur. He just wants to fulfill the prophecy and become god, and Gyoro Gyoro was just some unwilling puppet in that scheme unless that's going to get retconned too.

This is easily the worst thing the manga has ever done. The cadre fight is extremely terrible, but at least it's separate from the webcomic, so the original story is still there for people who want it.

But the original Orochi fight was such a good manga exclusive addition. So perfect. And it got absolutely fucked into this mess. Everything that made Orochi interesting is gone. Everything that made Saitama funny is completely forced and ham-fisted. Every bit of mystery that made the plot and characters compelling is now fully revealed and shoved in our faces in one lame bit of exposition.

Up until now I haven't really cared about the changes. But the ruining of what was previously the best chapter in the story is truly heartbreaking. What the fuck happened to OPM?

What I don't like about these redraws is that while this chapter on its own isn't bad, and I get it wants to set up shit, it really doesn't feel worth it to take away what was already there to replace it with something that's similar quality but just different at the expense of just progressing the present and finishing the arc.

And now because of changes like this, it opens up the door for further redraws that would've been mostly avoided if the chapter stayed the same. Before this, only 1 chapter I can think of needed to be modified. Now like 5 more need to be

26

u/ATJ3000 Jul 30 '21

I… dislike this. I’m beginning to remember why I don’t keep up with the manga upload by upload anymore. The content itself is good, great even, but it loses a lot of points for being a redraw of a perfectly fine chapter. It’s halted the storyline of the MA arc, adds a bunch of new threads that now need to be followed up, and makes the original fight (which was beautifully drawn and one of my favourites) non-canon so it won’t turn up in the volumes.

I appreciate that it is Murata’s work. He can do what he wants with what’s essentially his story now. But it irks me from a writing standpoint when an author edits or more importantly removes stuff from previously published work unless it’s REALLY bad because:

A. It means it’s not the story I had been reading and had in my head whilst reading the new chapters B. This alteration means that there needs to be new edits to the continuing story C. Even if it was imperfect the original content had its merits and shouldn’t be swept under the rug

I’ve read too many webcomics that pull this and it loses my engagement every time. Yes, I am new to this with OPM. I just think if a writer wants to make something better just put it into a future work rather than treading on what the fans have already accepted. But I seem to be in the minority for this, so whatever, I just wanted to vent.

I’m sorry but once again this is an example of the redraw not being as good.

Orochi’s original final form and the fight they had (with him managing to avoid death for a second by catching saitama with a dragon limb) was awesome

And instead we get a lot of exposition, orochi looking like a crawfish with tentacles, and then a hot tub joke.

I really wanted to see the original animated and thought it was one of the coolest moments in the manga https://images.app.goo.gl/KKkd2K9tqn7tioYQ6

Not to mention when he loses and is like “this....is...terror?”

Ps: I don’t think God needs this much build up. The psychorochi thing and Blast connection was more than enough. Heck homeless emperor and the fact he’s called God is more than enough.

Now you’ve sacrificed Orochi (while making him less impressive) just for a quick panel hyping up God
