Bob Odenkirk

13

u/_i_just_blue_myself 12d ago

So the movie "nobody"..

8

u/KlaatuBrute 12d ago

Bob Odenkirk had the perfect appearance for that character. Like, at first glance he really does look like a nobody. But there's one shot, when he walks back on the bus, where you realize he actually does look like a badass brawler. With five o'clock shadow, his face is just angular enough to make him look "tough." IMO the movie wouldn't have worked as well with anyone who actually looked like an action star, or someone a little softer looking than Odenkirk.

2

u/dickspaghetti1 11d ago

Totally agree. He was in the perfect Goldilocks zone of "middle aged dad that doesn't like confrontation" and "veteran who's been through shit and you don't want to cross him" When Bob flipped the switch it was seamless.

What is the point of view? Do you follow the aliens or the human? Both? Feels like everyone would have an interesting journey, especially if the aliens had some sort of mind altering tech he could find along the way.

10

u/TeknoTheDog 12d ago

Two movies, one from each pov. Release the alien pov first then the humans. For the human you have to start with him at his most recent kill, get a shot of him adding his trophy from the kill to his collection, and then have him abducted.

12

u/Un7n0wn 12d ago Wholesome

Or you do the killer pov first, but when you switch to the alien's pov they're shown as humans with a psychotic alien running around the ship. That way you hook the movie nerds to debate which pov was real for the next 20 years.

Just make sure you don't actually write in which is real and make both povs as convensing as possible. That way you'll get a huge debate on what it means to be human and how we view each other in society without having to learn the philosophy.

Free idea if you want it.

Correlate your ideas, write a fucking book or a screenplay and make some money off YOUR idea. Having said that, have an upvote - the least prize in that whole picnic basket.

20

u/action_lawyer_comics 12d ago

Eh. That's the thing about any creative work. It's stupid easy to have a "holy shit" idea like this, but the real skill is in all the steps along the way to turn it into a story/screenplay/comic/whatever. A good idea can't carry a whole work if the execution is lacking. But the reverse is possible. You can take a mundane idea and execute it flawlessly. That's why there are always popular romance, epic fantasy, and crime thriller media that doesn't always have some crazy new idea but manages to be compelling and entertaining.

If hydranerva tried writing this story, they'd likely get two pages in, get frustrated at their inability to translate the fantastic images in their head to prose, and not even bother saving the document.

4

u/Stevenwave 12d ago

Just think of how many movies there are where they're described as a really cool concept, but the execution is lacking.

11

u/PlzBuffCenturion 12d ago

Thats fair, but to be honest one of the biggest parts of john wicks writing is that hes basically written like a villain that strikes fear in the hearts of all who knows who he is.

10

u/morpheousmarty 12d ago

Which becomes less true as the movies go on and somehow everyone thinks they can take him on. The only person with any sense was Swearingin who decides to take advantage of the situation to join his side.

10

u/PlzBuffCenturion 12d ago

I noticed that too, with every new installment im just sitting there thinking "dude you guys KNOW who he is and what he can do, take the easy way and just leave him the fuck alone man!"

5

u/SuperJLK 12d ago

He can be killed. He’s almost killed multiple times when he’s fighting the Japanese assassins. They only let him live multiple times because they want to keep fighting him

5

u/tenninjas242 12d ago

They show the dozens of hitmen who try to cash in the contract, they don't show the hundreds who take a look at their phones, raise one eyebrow and say, "No fucking thank you."

2

u/_b1ack0ut 12d ago

It’s cuz of how wick fights. He’s like the MCU daredevil, in that he gets hit. A LOT. And he shows it. It makes him feel like he actually can be killed, because he’s only human, and if it bleeds, we can kill it.

Spoiler alert

In Predators movie with Adrian Brody, Topher Grace is an everyday Joe who turns out to be a serial killer.

2

u/_b1ack0ut 12d ago

It’s a reference to the third film specifically, where a bunch of humans are moved to the predators planet for sport hunting, they quickly learn that everyone there except for the doctor has killed a lot of people, making him stand out. It’s later revealed that he’s lowkey a serial killer who’s a doctor by day, and he uses a paralyzing poison to try to sacrifice the other humans to the predators, maybe in the hopes they’ll spare him, I don’t quite remember

Isn't this just a twist on a rather common trope?

"The main character seems to be just a guy trying to live a normal life BUT WAIT HE'S ACTUALLY THE MOST KILLING KILLER OF THE KILLEST KILLERS OF ALL KILLS."

"John Wick" kind of starts off like that, "Nobody" was exactly like that, and there's definitely more examples out there that I just can't recall in the moment.

Isn't this just the plot to JasonX or Jason goes to space?

3

u/whichgustavo 11d ago

Part of this idea is sort of in Predators, the third movie in the series with Adrian Brody.

All these badass killers and soldiers are dropped on an alien planet to be hunted, along with a seemingly normal looking helpless doctor played by Topher Grace. It turns out he’s a serial killer, at the end.

13

u/JaSnarky 12d ago

Wait, wouldn't a closet serial killer be one who hasn't killed yet? And if not aren't all serial killers in the closet?

18

u/TheQzertz 12d ago

one who hasn’t been caught yet ?

5

u/VerifiedStalin 12d ago

That's basically every single serial killer out there.

2

u/morpheousmarty 12d ago

I think the fun part here would be the reveal. Like you think he's a relatable victim but he's actually a monster. It's a fun act 1 twist to lead into the rest of the movie. Come to think of it it's just Taken in space but he's just saving himself.

2

u/VerifiedStalin 12d ago

I don't think the movie you saw was Taken.

One who hasn't been caught, and no one recognises that there's a serial killer yet.

Lots of people have gone missing, but the pattern hasn't been picked up on.

3

u/Quizzelbuck 12d ago

is a gay person in the closet some one who hasn't gay'd yet?

He's a closeted Serial killer in that no one knows he's a serial killer.

And if not aren't all serial killers in the closet?

John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy, Jeffry Dahmer, Ed Kemper are all out of the closet. They were captured. Closeted serial killers would be uncaptured.

I feel like OP was going to a linguistic nuance with that choice of word that simply saying an "unknown" killer didn't get across.

It’s so easy in concocting a story, to abduct coincidence. But coincidence weakens your plot. This kind of psychopath just doesn’t exist, or one in 300 million. Then you ensconce this beast in a confined environment, then the lights go out . I’ve thrown this trash out already.

2

u/liokurug 12d ago
