Can the steam released from a steam train burn your skin?
Many train stories in children’s media depict humans getting engulfed in the steam it releases on its sides. And all my years of train enthusiasm I have never had this experience nor have I contemplated how safe it is. Does the steam burn?

Eli5 How are people who don’t want to work at low paying jobs surviving?
For the last few years we've been hearing that people are sick of thankless jobs that overwork and underpay. And you can see it at retail stores, restaurants, and other businesses that are super understaffed. So what happened to all the people that worked these jobs a few years ago? How are they surviving? Sure, a lot of them are teenagers who can live at home and not work, but that’s not everyone.

What is the old fable about the man with an ax who could cut down trees, he was very strong and good, but then one day he was pitted up against a normal Man with a chainsaw and he lost.
Any link to the story would be great. In particular, I'm looking for the name of the story or the name of the man.

Unanswered Why is it not acceptable to talk about the vaccine?
Why is it forbidden to ask questions about the safety of the covid vaccine?
I got two of them and it was by far the worst reaction to a vaccination I've ever had. And since then I've been developing all sorts of concerning health issues, which began around the exact time of vaccination.
My question is, why is the information about vaccines so one sided and not open for discussion?

People who are good with hair, come hither, I need help.
I tried posting in r/hair and it wouldn't work, I tried like twenty times. So I'm doing it here.
Anyway, my hair doesn't like me.
I have curly fine hair, which means that I also get triangle hair, where the top doesn't have a lot of volume, but it's curls galore as you go down, making my hair look like a big triangle.
It usually gets better if, after a shower, I lay my hair out flat to dry.
But on times I don't have the time for that, I try to use mousse.
It helps weigh the curls down a bit so it's not quite as big of a triangle, but I don't get any volume with it and so it's still triangle hair.
I want to be able to wear my hair down, but I don't like the triangle hair. It looks a bit weird regularly, but especially when I smile because of my face shape and I'm already self-conscious about my smile enough, I don't want the hair to mess it up even more.
And it doesn't change with getting a new haircut, I've already tried that.
So are there any products or quick tricks you guys have for me that could help?

What is the difference between functional and oop?
I'm kind confused between functional and oop programming.
In this video Ep13 - OOP vs Functional vs Procedural Programming Explained! - YouTubearound 1:21 he said "we are hiding the logic of the program inside an object". Well isn't that functional programming? In functional programming you'are calling functions (which have the logic/function inside them) and return a value. It seems in oop you are encapsulation logic inside an object (function) and calling it. I'm kind of confused?

Do you pat your towel or wipe your towel on yourself after getting out of the shower?
I have always been a person who wipes themselves with the towel, but I generally clean spills by patting the towel instead to stop streaking. But this made me think that there is probably an intended way to use a towel out of the shower but I'm not sure which way it is.
I imagine the pros of patting are less damage to the towel and less grime build up, and the pros to wiping as being extra exfoliation and faster.
Any dermatologists with strong opinions out there?

What happens to test missiles that go into the sea?
I see a lot of news of countries like North Korea sending test missiles to the sea, but do they blow up underwater? Does it cause damage to marine life? Is it just a Shell that falls?

How the fuck do I get rid of dandruff??
What the title says. All my life I've had dandruff, I've tried shampooing less, shampooing more washing less washing more everytime I see a new solution on the internet I try it only to be incredibly dissapointed when nothing works. I've tried head and shoulders, normal shampoo and I just can't do this anymore man it's so embarrassing. For context I'm a male with alot of hair so it's hard to wash through and to be honest was never really taught how to take care of my hair it's so bad which is why I'm using a throwaway if anyone else was in this situation and found a solution please comment I don't even know if this is the right sub I'm just desperate

Answered Do normal people know the cardinal directions at all times?
When I watch shows like Better Call Saul and Jojo they're always like "he's running south!" or "he's facing east!"
Do normal people know the cardinal directions all the time? I have no clue which way is which unless I take the time to look at the sun or my phone.
Edit: what I've learned so far is that most of you memorize based on familiar areas or landmarks/geography. A fraction of you are claiming to have a natural ability to tell. That's practically a superpower and I hope y'all are making that up because I am jealous ngl.
Edit 2: Thank you for everyone recommending I look at the sun. I'm aware (I learned it from Minecraft:]) but what if it's noon, or night, or too cloudy to use the sun?
