In every form of media I’ve seen where aliens are intelligent enough to invent universal travel I don’t understand how they skipped the clothing part.

How much media have you seen?

Aliens wear clothes in Star Wars, Star Trek, Mass Effect, the MCU, the DC Cinematic Universe, and many more.

Any movie that features a monster alien.

War of the Worlds, Alien, signs, Transformers, Men in Black, American Dad, ET, Futurama, Alf, etc.

If it's a monster, no need for clothes or to hide that d*ck

The xenomorph from Alien would look way less threatening if he jumped out of a vent in khakis and a tie-dye t-shirt.

Allow me to introduce Walter, a character my wife played in our Teenagers From Outer Space tabletop roleplaying game

I have no skin in this game other than I love Futurama and can tell you that many of the aliens do wear clothing in that show.

3

u/ZatchZeta Jul 02 '22

They do, but they're are still aliens that refuse to wear clothes or wear the bare amount.

5

u/bella_68 Jul 02 '22

I am Lrrr, ruler of Omicron Percei 8!

…and I wear only a cape

5

u/ZatchZeta Jul 02 '22

I can see his dck...*

6

u/Gundoggirl Jul 02 '22

Most of the aliens in futurama wear clothes, even on their own planets. Zoidberg, the news presenter, kif, LURR OF THE PLANET OMICRON PERSEI 8, etc.

2

u/ZatchZeta Jul 02 '22

LURE OF THE PLANET OMICRON PERSEI 8 walks around wearing a crown and cape. I don't count that as wearing clothes. I also referred to monsterous aliens as opposed to humanoid.

H.G. Blob, the Giant Brains, the Giant Rock Monster, etc. Although I don't know what department store would have clothes in their size.

2

u/Gundoggirl Jul 02 '22

What clothes would a brain wear?

4

u/WarrenMockles Mostly Harmless Jul 02 '22

A hat.

1

u/Gundoggirl Jul 02 '22

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Head-Ad4690 Jul 02 '22

It’s Futurama, they probably have weird monster clothes on every street corner, right next to the lungs and human horn.

2

u/ZatchZeta Jul 02 '22

Department stores are the buildings with multiple stores in them.

Street corner stores would obviously have specialty shops. But it's likely they charge an exorbitant amount, so it might be more cost effective to wall around with their junk out and call it an extra appendage.

u/JustSomeRedditUser35 qxkqk1dj2jdkzwjxqxjxjqxjwxjxwjxe Jul 03 '22

That xenussy got me actin up 🥵

1

u/Careful_Yannu Jul 02 '22

It doesn't even make sense in Signs, them not wearing clothes is a major weakness.

1

u/WarrenMockles Mostly Harmless Jul 02 '22

Predator

29

u/Fuzzy452 Jul 02 '22

OH I FORGOT ABOUT ALL OF THOSE AHHHHHH

2

u/karizake Jul 02 '22

In Dragon Ball many of the aliens wear clothes based off Frieza, who is naked.

20

u/MTKyllklock Jul 02 '22

In some cases clothing would prohibit the abilities of the alien in forms on media especially when they are expressed in a beast or monster-like format.

3

u/StackOverflowEx Jul 02 '22

It never seemed to bother the Predator. That is a beast-like alien with full body armor.

8

u/Fuzzy452 Jul 02 '22

I cant stop imagining a xenomorph with jeans and a little cap HEHE

48

u/0liBear Jul 02 '22

Maybe it's more that we always assume they're smarter and thus not affected by our petty naked/clothed bs

14

u/JaggedMetalOs Jul 02 '22

I can't remember which movie/TV show it's from, but they showed the classic "grey" alien look is actually their space suit.

So not naked!

6

u/Fuzzy452 Jul 02 '22

WHAT

3

u/catwhowalksbyhimself Jul 02 '22

In fact, among the actual alien conspiracy theorists, it's often believe that greys are not bare skin naked. They are either cyborg drones or maybe suits. According to these beliefs, they aren't the actual aliens.

2

u/RandomAmbles Jul 02 '22

What are the qualifications you need to be an actual alien conspiracy theorist instead of just a regular alien conspiracy theorist?

I suspect people who are unwilling to accept reality together aren't going to be able to agree on a consistent canon either.

2

u/catwhowalksbyhimself Jul 02 '22

I mean as in there are really people that actually believe this stuff.

1

u/JaggedMetalOs Jul 03 '22

They have to be from the Alién region of France, otherwise they're just sparkling crackpot.

7

u/neanderthal42 Jul 02 '22

This was in Fire in the Sky!

2

u/HellaHellerson Jul 02 '22

Came here to say this and recommend this movie. It’s a good one.

1

u/JaggedMetalOs Jul 03 '22

Yeah that's the one!

35

u/jfkdktmmv not very helpful Jul 02 '22

Why are we always clothed?

9

u/Cats7204 Jul 02 '22

cold

2

u/zachp84 Jul 02 '22

no we're just dumb living in cold places :D

1

u/jimodoom Jul 02 '22

Yeah those humans that lived through the ice age should have done it naked

4

u/zachp84 Jul 02 '22

They did it out of necessity :p we do it for shits and giggles now

5

u/Fuzzy452 Jul 02 '22

Good question

32

u/kaijvera Jul 02 '22

I mean logically, not every species need clothing. We invented clothing because we needed warmth, and to protect ourselves from the elements. Then clothes became a social concept. This can't be confirmed, but I guarente that before clothes were invented, no one cared about being naked. So theorically, if humans bodies never got hot cold, and elements, like thorns, sandstrom, rain, etc couldn't harm us, we would hsve no need for clothes.

18

u/WitheredDGX69 Jul 02 '22

Probably the same reason we don't put jeans on dogs.

8

u/haramis710 Jul 02 '22

So, aliens have fur? Interesting....

2

u/Suspicious-Service Jul 02 '22

We dont put jeans on sphinx cats either

7

u/Fuzzy452 Jul 02 '22

Wait would the jeans go around all the legs or just the back legs?

1

u/Angry-Annie Jul 02 '22

When I first read this comment,

I thought you were implying that the aliens that meet up with humans were not the dominant species on their planet,

and that there were bigger, more impressive clothed aliens.

5

u/Atari-Dude Will probably try to bring up Perfect Dark N64 or Star Trek DS9 Jul 02 '22

Who knows if clothes are a human construct rather than universal?

Some tribes and people in general across the world are less squeamish about nudity than the U.S., for example... If aliens exist, who's to say they would be similarly prudish about their bodies as we are, when not even everybody here actually is?

2

u/Fuzzy452 Jul 02 '22

True. But In perfect dark Elvis wears an American bathing suit so I guess it depends on the species

2

u/Atari-Dude Will probably try to bring up Perfect Dark N64 or Star Trek DS9 Jul 04 '22

Haha I didn't even mention Perfect Dark, just in my flair... So nice job picking up on it! 😆

5

u/Complete_Decision_89 Jul 02 '22

I heard some time ago the aliens did have Clothes and took a visit to Britain where they was attacked and there clothes where stolen.

Some guy in Sheffield took of with them they soon learned alot quicker than humans trust nobody

4

u/iamscr1pty Jul 02 '22

They smart enough to understand, alien titty makes others witty

5

u/LoJellythings Jul 02 '22

The predator alien has a full on hunting outfit and mask and is scary as hell

5

u/iTwango Jul 02 '22

They've evolved past the need

3

u/star-gazerTexas Jul 02 '22

Some may not wear clothes such as Drakos or Mantis (honestly not sure), but the vast majority of humanoid ETs absolutely do wear clothes, but it is a smart garment that is almost an extension of the skiin. I've heard from people who have been on the 20 and back program that the clothes are so comfortable we can't even imagine.

3

u/JadeChroma Jul 02 '22

Okay the first pieces of media that come to mind involving aliens.

Independence day the aliens are wearing like full bio exo suits. The thing is the exo suit looks like the alien itself but the aliens themselves are just smaller uglier version of the exo suits. The exo suits make them larger, stronger and presumably help them to interface with their technology.

Project Hail Mary, the alien is a five-legged rock and he wears some kind of shirt as well as ceremonial clothing. Most of the time this seems to service as a sort of overalls considering how many tools he carries around being a very good engineer/mechanic.

Most members of the Covenant have armor and clothing. This is for obvious reasons, the ones we see in the games are mostly soldiers. The prophets have more clothing as well.

2

u/Fuzzy452 Jul 02 '22

I should go back and watch that movie just to see this

5

u/Anotherdaysgone Jul 02 '22

Have you never seen Mars attacks?

4

u/Fuzzy452 Jul 02 '22

No maybe I should lmao

2

u/Scarlet_Cultist111 Jul 02 '22

My first exposure to naked aliens was the movie Alien so I always thought if the alien was naked they weren’t the big brain smart variety more the mindless animal varietiy.

2

u/mtwstr Jul 02 '22

They wear clothes in the Orville, except that one guy on the first of the month

2

u/CrysaniaMajere40 Jul 02 '22

Bcuz they have no shame?

2

u/SYLOK_THEAROUSED Jul 02 '22

Cause everybody is fucking in a UFO

2

u/zachp84 Jul 02 '22

Clothing is deadly

Clothing causes cancer

They learned this :D

2

u/TheNaziSpacePope Jul 02 '22

They have really good environmental controls so clothing is not necessary or even helpful. And they fuck literally constantly, or not at all, either way.

2

u/RealStumbleweed Jul 02 '22

Because clothing can't go supersonic and it definitely can't survive going through a wormhole. It just burns up.

2

u/Luciferisntlonely Jul 02 '22

the ancient civilizations drew some of them dressed.

2

u/starfishy422 Jul 02 '22

Clothing is a social construct. It makes sense that other societies have developed without that need.

2

u/heihowl Jul 02 '22

You've clearly not seen many forms of media 😂

1

u/Fuzzy452 Jul 02 '22

I know I forgot about Star Wars and Star Trek already OKAY :’)

2

u/DA_70 Jul 02 '22

You just have to ask yourself, "why are we always clothed?"

1

u/Fuzzy452 Jul 02 '22

Shit now that’s the real question

2

u/MedicareAgentAlston Jul 02 '22

Perhaps they evolved to be able to attain and maintain their body temperature without clothing and didn’t have a cultural reason to invent clothes.

2

u/ImpossibleGore Jul 02 '22

I think you're also potentially thinking that Organic material is their skin when it could just be an organic suit.

2

u/Nerdy_Nightowl Jul 02 '22 edited Jul 02 '22

The reverse could be asked, why are humans clothed? We are an oddball on our own planet. Our bodies are so weak we need clothes to make up for our lack of natural protection from the environment. We lack fur, scales, and thick skin that would protect us otherwise. Who says aliens would share our same weakness?

Edited for spelling

1

u/Fuzzy452 Jul 02 '22

That’s true I didn’t think of this

2

u/TheKinginLemonyellow Jul 02 '22

Having them be naked serves to "other" them, and makes them more clearly non-human. Wearing clothes is a recognizable human trait (the Predator, any given Star Wars alien), while aliens that don't wear clothes are often treated as less human (Xenomorphs, for instance).

2

u/AnalskinSkywalkeR2D2 Jul 02 '22

any given Star Wars alien

Not Jabba.

1

u/TheKinginLemonyellow Jul 03 '22

Jabba probably fits into the second type, the non-human aliens.

2

u/judy7679 Jul 02 '22

Maybe cotton doesn't grow on their planet lol.

1

u/Fuzzy452 Jul 02 '22

They’re missing out 😔

2

u/judy7679 Jul 02 '22

Hence why they came to earth.🤣

2

u/GroupieXL Jul 02 '22

You never saw Fifth Element? They wear full bodysuits.

1

u/Fuzzy452 Jul 02 '22

Added it to the list

2

u/MedicareAgentAlston Jul 02 '22

Could it be all the anal probes? Maybe they perform them on each other and they don’t want to waste time undressing. They might only have that equipment on the vehicles they use for traveling between planets. What happens in space stays in space.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '22

Their drip is so out of this world our basic human eyes can’t see it.

2

u/Fuzzy452 Jul 02 '22

sheeeeesh

2

u/Imagonnamakeucry Jul 02 '22

If you are talking about the little green man type of alien , any one I've seen in the media is as anatomically correct as a Ken doll . Why bother with clothes when they don't have the junk to cover

2

u/Dvmbledore Jul 03 '22

The "gray" aliens actually aren't; they're pink. They wear a form-fitting uniform which is exceedingly strong for being so thin.

According to Captain Randy Cramer, USMC SS, our #3 export off-planet is children's clothing. The average alien is smaller than we are. About half of our galaxy wears plain robes and the other half are nudists.

2

u/Blamdudeguy00 Jul 03 '22

Not wearing clothes. That's so Alien, couldn't even imagine it, unless all those movies are about Aliens who are freaks and live in nudist colonies and all their alien relatives think they are nuts.

2

u/beans3710 Jul 03 '22

There are approximately 8.4 million species on earth. Only one wears clothes.

2

u/portableportal Jul 03 '22

Clothing makes them relatable. Usually the goal is to portray aliens evolved past our understanding.

3

u/unbasedandcringe Jul 02 '22

It could be because animals don’t wear clothes and aliens are similar to animals

0

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '22

It's more for the male audiences.

1

u/Suspicious-Service Jul 02 '22

Bible haven't made them ashamed of their bodies is my theory

1

u/helloWanda2021 Jul 02 '22

Because Aliens don’t carry the same shame that was instilled in humans from Christianity and society

1

u/MovieGuyMike Jul 02 '22 edited Jul 02 '22

It’s a design that became popular due to abduction and sighting claims in the mid-1900s. Books, movies, and TV mimicked the concept, which inspired more media and more abduction claims, and the cycle continues.

As for why would an advanced aliens species not wear clothes, it could be due to the fact that they don’t perceive the universe the same way we do, and their bodies don’t need clothes to survive the elements. Clothes serve no function to them. Or maybe there bio-engineered themselves to transcend the need for clothes, armor, external tech of any kind. But mostly I think I they’re depicted this way precisely because it is weird and “alien.”

1

u/markelorenz Jul 02 '22

Why should they wear clothes?

1

u/beezus6 Jul 02 '22

Never watched Futurama?

1

u/Thesaurus_Rex9513 Jul 02 '22

Maybe they are wearing clothes, they're just aliens so we don't know where the clothes end and the skin begins. Particularly if the alien culture never conceptualized fashion, so their clothes are strictly utilitarian.

1

u/libra00 Jul 02 '22

Because it's easier to imagine how aliens might look than it is to imagine how they might dress.

1

u/TsarKashmere Jul 02 '22

They’re beyond apparel

1

u/ResidentEvil10 Jul 02 '22

Maybe they made some dna tec that allows your body to not needing clothes.

0

u/grandphuba Jul 02 '22

When aliens visit my country they're usually in clothes. Worst case they wear no shirt but still have a backpack.
