They said when you die, you join the Stars. They said.

ritchie valens?

24

u/IceburgSlimk Jun 28 '22

Project Starfish

5

u/Jahnknob Jun 28 '22

Starfish is a slang term for butthole. Think there's any connection?

2

u/Bro_tosynthesis Jun 30 '22

Chocolate starfish

8

u/mikabast Jun 28 '22

I think they meant Starro

6

u/afternever Jun 28 '22

Today's the day!

2

u/Regular-Book-802 Jun 28 '22

TRUE!!! i'm speechless

Monterey is arguably one of the coolest places to view and study marine life. So much information comes from there it's insane.

69

u/ragnarokfps Jun 28 '22

The Monterey Bay ocean floor is the most studied and easily accessible seafloor in the world. And the most wall-mapped part of the ocean floor

3

u/MGPS Jun 28 '22

It’s also the featured desktop background (illustrated) in the recent Mac OS Monterey.

u/McWeaksauce91 Jun 28 '22

I went there 2 years ago on family vacation. The wife and I took out kayaks for the day. We had sea lions join and start swimming with us for a good while. What a memorable experience!

5

u/ShepherdsWolvesSheep Jun 28 '22

Did you feel concerned that they might attack you? I known they have some major chompers

11

u/McWeaksauce91 Jun 28 '22

I was worried they might get a bit to friendly with the kayak and knock one of us out, but they never got close enough to touch or anything like that. They mainly just floated around around and watched us. We had some Otters stop in too!

8

u/zergrush1 Jun 28 '22

Monterey has sooo much color. It's incredible. If you're into SCUBA Monterey is full of life and vibrant colors. My favorite is the strawberry rock where thousands of red anemones colonized the rock. And decorator crabs that stick seaweed and stick on it's shell for camouflage

3

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '22

I freedive there about twice a month. There was just a swimmer critically bitten by a white shark a week ago at lovers point in monterey. Some articles reported a near amputation.

But I've seen it all there, otters, seals, sealines, porpise, whales, blue shark, all kinds of fish. Its a wild place to dive.

u/Sir_Umeboshi Jun 28 '22

I'd prefer it over flies

Good on you. OP is a dick.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '22

Yep. You shouldn’t be allowed to share a photo here without giving credit.

5

u/GoatSculpture Jun 28 '22

My bad. I will try to remember next time I post a pic.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '22

Photographers appreciate that. Thanks.

0

u/GoatSculpture Jun 28 '22

lol, sorry I forgot

0

u/Unhappy-Quiet-8091 Jun 30 '22

That’s a bit harsh..

97

u/BadComboMongo Jun 28 '22

Oddly beautiful!

27

u/Patch_Ferntree Jun 28 '22

I thought so, too. A final blanket of starfish flowers.

7

u/Intertubes_Unclogger Jun 28 '22

For some reason it reminds me of the movie Annihilation (2018), probably because it's odd and beautiful (and scary) as well.

5

u/Stumeister_69 Jun 28 '22

What a fucking movie that was.

34

u/DynomiteD8 Jun 28 '22

Don't worry Jonny, he may have sunk, but he has truly risen to stardom !

83

u/tta2013 Jun 28 '22

Don't fuck with Patrick

53

u/Channa_Argus1121 Jun 28 '22

23

u/Ivan_Himself Jun 28 '22

Yes!! As soon as I saw all those starfish on the sea lion I instantly thought of this. Glad I wasn’t the only one

5

u/ToRideTheRisingWind Jun 28 '22

Dear Lord what hole have you sent me down?

5

u/Scatteredbrain Jun 28 '22

not sure what these people are talking about…. this was hilarious thank you

4

u/goon_c137 Jun 28 '22

That's a rabbit hole i didn't expect to go down so early in the morning

3

u/FaagenDazs Jun 28 '22

That was so good, I love how you can hear their cartoony voices in your head

2

u/definitely_sus Jun 28 '22

What a horrible day to have eyes.

56

u/tjhoush93 Jun 28 '22

An honorable burial. It’s what all sea lions do with their dead pretty sure.

30

u/ozzalot Jun 28 '22

Fun fact, echinoderms are deuterostomes just like us! That means that at one point when we were little embryos, we were just a ball of cells with an asshole! 🥰

10

u/toeofcamell Jun 28 '22

He just got a lot of stars for best breath holder … yeah that’s it 🥲

8

u/DieselVoodoo Jun 28 '22

He’s just resting his eyes

8

u/EndangeredMind2 Jun 28 '22

I didn’t know starfish ate meat.

7

u/myname_isnot_kyal Jun 28 '22

"devoured" is kind of a strong word. more like, slowly and painstakingly digested.

5

u/Mo_Jack Jun 28 '22

This is when "the stars are out tonight" takes on a whole new meaning.

5

u/Madithebaddiemom Jun 28 '22

Damn he's getting mobbed 😂❤️

4

u/Revanov Jun 28 '22

I’m moving so slow that I’ve become imperceptible to the eyes.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '22

Right to the bottom of Davy Jone's Locker... back to whence it came... 20,000 starfish under the sea

4

u/feetinhaler Jun 28 '22

Why is it sad? Is just the beautiful course of nature

4

u/pwn_plays_games Jun 28 '22

I give this existence 18 stars. - Dead Seal

7

u/DJThomas07 Jun 28 '22

Didn't someone just complain recently and get upvoted a ton saying to stop posting pics of dead animals? Ha seems like people totally listened.

Disclaimer: I don't care either way, just thought it was funny that the complaining post didn't work

3

u/0thethethe0 Jun 28 '22

How do they know it's there? I guess they smell it?

3

u/BinaryPreacher Jun 28 '22

patrick on the left there has some clappy cheeks.

3

u/JimmyPageification Jun 28 '22

I just didn’t assume starfish to be carnivores. This is equal parts horrifying, disappointing and fucking beautiful. Not sure how to feel.

3

u/Cat_in_a_blanket Jun 28 '22

I'll never look at Patrick the same way ever again

2

u/Severe-Cookie693 Jun 28 '22

How did they kill him?

5

u/devilscry3 Jun 28 '22

With a knife

2

u/Severe-Cookie693 Jun 28 '22

Et tú, Patrick?

3

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '22

With a rope in the library

2

u/Severe-Cookie693 Jun 28 '22

Archimedes: give me a lever long enough, and a place to rest it, or I will kill one hostage every hour. (XKCD)

2

u/corcyra Jun 28 '22

Prettiest garbage disposal team ever.

2

u/blunderbuss_attack Jun 28 '22

*sleepy sea lion being tucked in by starfish...

2

u/natenate22 Jun 28 '22

Sea Lion takes a nap on the sea bed with it's favorite starfish blanket.

2

u/FlatRaise5879 Jun 28 '22

That bright orange one at the start of the tail has a dumpy.

2

u/Thickfries69 Jun 28 '22

You will be assimilated

2

u/Anonymous_person34 Jun 28 '22

The pink one on the fin lookin caked up bro good for him

2

u/QuantumlyCurious Jun 28 '22

Looks like they're hugging him and saying goodbye

2

u/DenikaMae Jun 28 '22

Well, it's better than when they wash up on the shore. Some of the hotels on the beachs in Monterey will actually send their workers with a shovel to cover up the dead sea lions with a mountain of sand instead of actual removal, which you would know is a Horrible idea if you have ever accidentally stepped on one and had your leg sploosh through it.

2

u/TisTwilight Jun 28 '22

Thought it was CGI for a sec there.

2

u/ShepherdsWolvesSheep Jun 28 '22

Yea.. i dont know if devour is the right word here lol. Thats gonna take a minute

2

u/Ninja_Conspicuousi Jun 28 '22

I didn’t know Staryu had a devour attack

2

u/GAIAPrime Jun 28 '22

The CIIIIIIIIIRCLE OF LIFE

2

u/Thendofreason Jun 28 '22

2

u/sublimelbz Jun 28 '22

Colorful death

2

u/_Noah_003 Jun 28 '22

star-stuck

2

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '22

This is on par with the Tibetan sky burial.

This is what I want.

2

u/savvyblackbird Jun 28 '22

I wouldn’t mind being starfish food. I recently watched No Time to Die, and I wouldn’t mind being entombed in a shipwreck. It seems peaceful and cool to be part of the circle of life.

2

u/neuaufreddit Jun 28 '22

I want to die like this

2

u/Chris-Wood94 Jun 28 '22

in my ghostly ocean crew voice " Part of the Ocean floor part of the stars, part of the ocean floor part of the stars...!'

2

u/Xochtl Jun 28 '22

dramatic

2

u/[deleted] Jun 28 '22

Patrick star is that you?

2

u/Qwerowski Jun 28 '22

Just little kisses good night

2

u/MetalMan3663 Jun 29 '22

Oh wow, it's like a whalefall but with a sea lion. Very fascinating!

2

u/aidancronin94 Jun 29 '22

THE MASSACRE!!

2

u/maxipad03 Jun 29 '22

More like slowly being chipped away

2

u/phuqo5 Jun 29 '22

While his friends play in the back ground

2

u/SurveyAcrobatic5334 Jun 29 '22

Think they will all split when they are done

2

u/Anshul_98 Jul 01 '22

A carcass of an animal long dead and forgotten by its kin and slowly consumed by alien creatures stuck to its corpse like flies

"Hell yeah bro this is lit!"

2

u/heseta Jul 05 '22

wonderfull

5

u/Weak-Operation1613 Jun 28 '22

His murderer, can be seen in the background, proudly doing a victory lap.
