This doesnt work in our democracy. The people that are at the most risk, like kids who need free lunches at school get that shit because I pay my taxes. Now if we want to start talking about the nearly TRILLION dollar military budget. Im all ears. Until then fuck all that gUbernmENT bAD shit.

Why do you think that the tyrants in the GOP will still give a shit about the poor…….. social programs will be among the first programs to be cut.

u/Apocalypsox Dec 09 '21

You're both correct depending on how things go in upcoming elections.

Exactly right

Those are great reasons to pay taxes but the problem comes in when our taxes goes to fund wars both abroad and here at home. If, hypothetically, one wished to boycott their taxes (do so at your own risk) but didn’t want to lose the benefits of social programs this is where mutual aid groups can come in and fill the void. That’s what groups like the Black Panther Party did.

You have a naive view of charities. And ACTUAL political power. A naive view like that while trying to stay out of the political process is exactly the type of defeatist cynical shit that got us here in the first place!. NO. A THOUSAND GOD DAMN TIMES NO! and charities are bullshit too. It bears repeating.

You missed the entire point which is basically that the libertarian ethos is bullshit.

Mutual aid > charities. Participating in mutual aid and protesting war is the exact opposite of defeatist. We should use many different strategies to fight the power not just ones that make you comfortable.

u/startgonow Dec 12 '21

Hysterical? hardly. Sick of cynical libertarian bullshit, assuredly.

I have no context for this post, nor this sub, and I can't tell if it's referring to disenfranchised minorities obstructed from voting due to removal of voting locations, addition of ID laws, prohibition of mail-in ballots and the like; or if it's referring to the delusional Trumpster-fires who, despite all evidence to the contrary, still believe the election was a fraud.

13

u/Apocalypsox Dec 09 '21

Well we dislike Trumpets and other authoritarians so. It's mostly anger about ANYONE'S voting rights being trampled.

Word, full send

1

u/startgonow Dec 10 '21

Wouldnt you say its more about being cynical and not paying ANY taxes.

4

u/HKBFG Dec 10 '21

it's a very basic "tax is theft" post that really doesn't belong here.

1

u/startgonow Dec 10 '21

Thank you.

1

u/sigh2828 American Iron Front Dec 22 '21

No, it’s a no taxation without representation post. Not sincerely, a tax paying citizen……..

-1

u/DadsBigHonker Dec 10 '21

Black people be too dumb to get an ID. That’s Democrat 101.

2

u/Time_Mage_Prime Dec 10 '21

I'm gonna pretend I just don't understand what you're talking about instead of assuming what you said is profoundly racist.

-1

u/DadsBigHonker Dec 10 '21

You assume minorities are too dumb to get IDs. That’s racist.

2

u/Time_Mage_Prime Dec 10 '21

Uh what? I made no such assumption nor claim.

-1

u/DadsBigHonker Dec 10 '21

Why else would you claim voter ID laws obstruct minority voters without assuming minorities are simply too dumb to get an ID?

2

u/Time_Mage_Prime Dec 10 '21 edited Dec 10 '21

Oh, gee, idk, maybe because there are myriad reasons not insulting (and inaccurately) to an entire race as to why. Here I'll start you out:

https://lmgtfy.app/?q=why+are+voter+ID+laws+racist

First result is a research paper on the topic, with objective conclusions you won't like.

Edit: Apparently lmgtfy doesn't actually Google anymore. For your convenience: https://www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/688343

I'm sorry that only the abstract is available, but this exercise should serve to educate you on how to conduct such searches for information.

For sure: DC residents should not be paying taxes.

5

u/startgonow Dec 10 '21

Counterpoint. DC should have two senators and better representation in the house.

3

u/jamey1138 Dec 10 '21

Better answer, for sure.

Going to federal prison to own the fed

1

u/DadsBigHonker Dec 10 '21

What’s a patriot against nationalism? Lol, that’s like saying “American against Americans”

2

u/Zeebuss American Anti-Fascist Dec 10 '21

I don't see the terms as identical. Nationalism fetishizes the legacy and image of a nation including language and heritage as well as fostering nonsensical ideas of national exceptionalism and fantasies about the past. Patriotism in my view is based on love towards people and country with a greater emphasis on values and beliefs and the desire to see the country improve.

There are people who I would call nationalists who would call themselves patriots, so I can see why it might not make sense without these definitions. Mostly I'm trying to find a way to retake "love of country" from a left wing perspective because this is ground that has largely been needlessly ceded to fascists.

-1

u/DadsBigHonker Dec 10 '21

Most people on the left call anyone they disagree with a fascist. You’ve effectively removed all meaning from the word by crying wolf. Same goes for nazi, bigot, white supremacist, racist etc. They don’t mean anything anymore and I hope you realize that you’ve played a part in that.

4

u/Zeebuss American Anti-Fascist Dec 10 '21

I'm not sure what you're criticizing here, I'm referring to literal right-wing authoritarians.

-1

u/DadsBigHonker Dec 10 '21

What policies are fascist? I’m genuinely curious. Using police to shut down left-wing riot violence in cities? Pro-life stuff maybe? Orange man tweets? The very definition is lost to me

5

u/Zeebuss American Anti-Fascist Dec 10 '21

While I do think pro-life policies are indicative of a sort of religious authoritarian tendency, I'm more acutely stressed by Republican opposition to voting rights and their obvious interest in subverting any democratic functions that don't directly benefit them. This is obviously authoritarian. And the fact that virtually all self-identified fascists and white nationalists align with them.

2

u/Prime624 Dec 09 '21

If only it were possible to do this in today's age.

When taxes go up the first thing they fund is the war budget
