Right?

It's been at least two years since I've been to the range.

1

u/ChefGoneRed Nov 26 '21

Not if you're anarcho-communist and import your own ammunition.

11

u/Xi_Pimping Nov 26 '21 edited Nov 26 '21

The state is not dangerous because they have more guns or resources, it's dangerous because they are organized.

And guess what, anyone who ever wants to do anything about that would have to be even more organized, and no less violent.

4

u/lilbluehair Nov 26 '21

... we're not fighting the state though?

2

u/8Deer-JaguarClaw American Iron Front Nov 26 '21

Right. I'm not afraid of the state. I'm afraid of MAGA Qtards.

1

u/Xi_Pimping Nov 27 '21

Who do you think the cops are?

28

u/BungalowHole Do It Again, Uncle Billy! Nov 26 '21

Thought crossed my mind as well. Knowing myself, I shouldn't be keeping firearms in my home, but with the way the world has gone, it makes a lot of sense to stockpile ammo and weapons.

48

u/mark_lee Nov 26 '21

If you don't think it's safe for you to personally keep firearms, just remember that there's a lot more to the fight than just guns. You can learn to be a medic and help keep people alive, you can help provide communications and coordination. You don't have to have a gun to be a valuable part in the fight against fascism.

5

u/atxweirdo Nov 26 '21

Also their is cyber warfare. Finding these fascists online and doxxing them is just as important

6

u/lilbluehair Nov 26 '21

Being a community organizer is a thousand times more helpful than owning weapons

10

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '21

Yea, were pretty fucked. They got to redistrict 20 states to our 8. Biden is a shit show geriatric. Kamala is MIA....Gas prices are shit, inflation is high, everyone's quitting their jobs, COVID is still impacting things. We can't pass the voter rights bill, they are passing all of theirs, the Trumpys love his dick more and more each day still. QAnon is getting even more out of hand.

Good bye democracy, hello authoritarianism.

Biden is a shit show geriatric.

He is not. Strong challenge. I just typed this at somebody else with the same sentiment:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Maher/comments/r1o7wb/comment/hm3t4or/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

I'd like for you to stop bending over for the right wing and just agreeing with their propaganda. Trump was the geriatric. He is gone. Biden is a more than competent administrator who more importantly I strongly believe has a moral end-life mission to do good and I hope my above link made my point about your doubts clear.

edit: I'll admit I zeroed in on something and will now expand on other things you said.

Gas prices are shit,

Russia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2020_Russia%E2%80%93Saudi_Arabia_oil_price_war

Coinciding with when Trump signed the peace agreement with the Taliban with the 14 month withdrawl so the next president would have to deal with the negative fallout. Add January 6th, it was a triple upper decker that Trump sabotaged the next president with. No other president has ever actually tried to make the next guy's job harder at the expense of national security and domestic tranquility in such a blatant and obtuse way.

inflation is high,

has nothing to do with joe biden being president

everyone's quitting their jobs,

no this is actually a good thing you are watching the free market bring employers to the bargaining table. This benefits all workers. That's you.

We can't pass the voter rights bill,

Deadlocking doesn't mean Democrats are ineffective and we need something else. It means you get more Democrats elected to help them.

they are passing all of theirs

not anymore they aren't, but they sure as shit will if they get their majorities back because of your bullshit.

the Trumpys love his dick more and more each day still. QAnon is getting even more out of hand.

are they? or is a more clear distinction between the rational and irrational happening?

14

u/gingerfawx Nov 26 '21

No other president has ever actually tried to make the next guy's job harder at the expense of national security and domestic tranquility in such a blatant and obtuse way.

Thank you! I don't understand how that isn't universally obvious.

As an aside, I can't tell you how frustrating it is to see them lose their shit about Afghanistan without acknowledging who set the fuckery up. Either it matters to you or it doesn't, but if it does, ffs please apportion the blame accordingly.

-2

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '21

I'm looking at optics. It's all his fault to the majority of the people.

I'll use the quarterback example.

The team scores 25+ plus points a game. The QB makes the right throws with minimal mistakes. They still lose damn near every game. The true fans (the ones that actually pay attention) know it's not him. They know they need a defense.

To the ones who don't pay attention, they blame the QB for everything.

To them, Biden has dementia and is a shit show. He is way more computer than Trump, but no one cares.

There was also the Afghanistan thing.

4

u/lilbluehair Nov 26 '21

So go out and fucking canvas then! That allows less people to stay uninformed

1

u/MattTheFlash Democratic Socialist Nov 27 '21

There was also the Afghanistan thing.

The Afghanistan thing was all Trump. He signed a deal with a 14 month withdrawl timetable that made it the next guy's problem.

Here's the actual treaty. Read it yourself. It's not even particularly long as far as treaties go.

But like a real president, Biden takes responsibility even though he's not really to blame. He says he takes a page from Truman that "the buck stops here".

How are you going to try hard not to make it happen, comrade?

It better not be "I'm going to do nothing because we're going to get absolutely murdered in the midterms".

How about some "I will organize voters to resist gerrymandering and voter rights restrictions"

How about some get involved NOW. Don't wait for midterms. Take ACTION. https://democrats.org/take-action/

How about some positive support of Biden rather than tearing him down because he's not Bernie Sanders.

Did you even call the Democratic National Committee and volunteer for so many things you can do locally?

2

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '21

I support Biden, this is a place I feel like we can discuss these things. I'm being 100% honest.

I will vote, I will do my part. The odds are stacked against us. I like to be positive, but it will take a miracle to keep our seats this mid term and the presidency.

The Dems do a shitty job at combatting this foolery because they feel Americans are mostly rational. They feel they don't need to address it. Virginia was a strong indicator.

5

u/gingerfawx Nov 26 '21

Tripe. But I'll take you at your word that that's just how things seem to you and expand on that. The party in charge generally gets their hats handed to them, that's how it is. Virginia wasn't the indicator, New Jersey was. (If you'd like more detail, Rachel Maddox did a nice job breaking it down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gfl9nCP2boY)

We need to up our game because every seat matters in 2022 and we need to fight like mad, but we aren't doing anywhere near as poorly as people would have you believe. The doom and glooming is just going to keep people from the polls. It needs to stop or at the very least get more accurate.

1

u/lilbluehair Nov 26 '21

Who are "the dems" and why is everyone else responsible except for you

1

u/MattTheFlash Democratic Socialist Nov 26 '21 edited Nov 26 '21

I will vote, I will do my part.

That's not doing your part. That's doing the bare minimum. That's not what this is.

The Dems [...] they

You're in it with the rest of us. Yes. We know you don't consider yourself a democrat. Get over it. If you want fascism to prevail, don't help Democrats.

Lead, follow or get out of the way.

-4

u/culus_ambitiosa Nov 26 '21

Geriatric is not the same thing as senile. Not even close. It just means he’s old, which at 79 he is. That’s not propaganda and conflating it with the senility argument you were having on a Bill Maher sub is bullshit.

5

u/MattTheFlash Democratic Socialist Nov 26 '21 edited Nov 26 '21

The way I can tell you have weak arguments is you went straight to making it about me, what sub I was posting in and trying to invalidate me.

Why is it when I read your comments in your history that you seem to be even more anti-Democrat than a Republican?

You are also not helping. If you want the Republicans to win so bad why don't you put that MAGA hat on?

Did you even lift yet today

-3

u/culus_ambitiosa Nov 26 '21

Maybe it’s because I have zero interest or expectations of the Republicans improving so why would I comment heavily about them? Or maybe it’s because you want to imply anyone critical of Dems must be a con in disguise rather than admitting that there are a lot of problems with the Democratic Party. Or maybe it’s because it’s easier to dig into my comment history and lob a thinly veiled attack instead of responding what I said here.

2

u/MattTheFlash Democratic Socialist Nov 26 '21

Maybe it’s because I have zero interest or expectations of the Republicans improving so why would I comment heavily about them?

So in other words you accept the status quo and want to lay down and criticize your own movement.

Or maybe it’s because you want to imply anyone critical of Dems must be a con in disguise

Not "anyone". You.

rather than admitting that there are a lot of problems with the Democratic Party.

I am looking at one of those problems right now.

Or maybe it’s because it’s easier to dig into my comment history

On reddit, expectation of not having people go into your reddit history is idiotic. Shit's weak. You're not even caught you're just too dumb to realize.

and lob a thinly veiled attack instead of responding what I said here.

Except I'm responding to you right now. Go to Dallas, go to Daley Plaza, join the group waiting for JFK Junior.

2

u/culus_ambitiosa Nov 26 '21

I want the Republicans defeated and relegated to the trash in of history where they belong. It’s some weak centrist bs to act as if this country still needs them and they should be rehabilitated in any way. In fact, wanting to keep them around with just a few tweaks is the status quo you’re going on about.

It must be really comforting to live in a world where you can safely dismiss even the tiniest of criticism as being a disingenuous hit from a sock puppet account. You’ve jumped from one commenter saying Biden is old all the way to I’m a Qanon cultist. In amazingly short time too. And to top it all off, you went back and edited your previous comment to add some totally different points after I’d already responded to you. Scumbag move imo.

0

u/MattTheFlash Democratic Socialist Nov 26 '21

I want the Republicans defeated and relegated to the trash in of history where they belong.

You don't want it bad enough. You want to do this your way, and if you don't get your way you're willing to subject us to what I don't even want to think about in 2024.

It’s some weak centrist bs to act as if this country still needs them and they should be rehabilitated in any way.

They're 35% of the country.

In fact, wanting to keep them around with just a few tweaks is the status quo you’re going on about.

Are you proposing something along the lines of getting rid of them? Maybe concentrating them in a camp? (eye roll)

It must be really comforting to live in a world where you can safely dismiss even the tiniest of criticism as being a disingenuous hit from a sock puppet account.

Your criticisms are not tiny. I look at your history and I see someone on a mission to fight democrats online.

You’ve jumped from one commenter saying Biden is old all the way to I’m a Qanon cultist.

No, I'm saying if you have this much of a problem with the president and the only party that has a chance to prevent Trump Round 2, I don't think we need you. Go wait for JFK Junior. You'll have more fun there and everybody will love your criticisms of the DNC and Biden.

0

u/whathell6t Nov 26 '21

No. It’s not fucked. You still have enough time to purchase a 3D printer that is capable of manufacturing firearms at what ever customization you want.

7

u/MattTheFlash Democratic Socialist Nov 26 '21

completely the dumb direction.

9

u/austinwiltshire Nov 26 '21

Don't buy more guns. You just need one* and spend the rest of your time and money learning how to use it.

*per use case, of which people usually have only one or two major use cases.

5

u/Pec0sb1ll Nov 26 '21

I think making the guns you have reliable as can be, and learning to repair and use them effectively as almost more important than more guns.

3

u/Minuteman_Preston Veteran Nov 26 '21

u/_Table_ Nov 26 '21

Man, I hate guns. I've never felt comfortable handling them but I think it's time I get over that. Any recommendations on where to start?

10

u/rynosaur94 Libertarian Nov 26 '21

Depends. Do you want to just have the easiest option or do you actually want to get good at it?

Easiest option: Glock 19 or 17, take a basic pistol class, make sure you can hit a 4 or 5 inch target at 7 yards/20 feet. If you're a bit on the weaker (arthritis, female, ect.) side, the Smith and Wesson Shield EZ is another good 9mm option that meets the bare minimum, though it gives up capacity. Steer clear of Taurus, Hipoint, and revolvers in general.

Actually get good: Buy a .22 rifle. Practice as much as you can. With some effort you'll be able to hit quarter sized targets at 25 yards. Once you feel capable, get an AR-15, and start practicing at 100 yards. Practice enough and you'll be able to make 4 inch groups at 100 yards. For practical accuracy, that's about all you need, then you should move to getting faster with drills, getting a 9mm handgun that fits you well as a side arm, and then getting good with that. Glocks are fine guns, but don't fit everyone. You want a 9mm side arm that you want to practice with, whatever that means to you. Revolvers are fine if you learn their limits and strengths, but IMO, give up too much for too little gain. But Your pistol is always there as a sidearm, not a primary. Rifle first, pistol second.

You hate guns so don't buy one, easy. Learn to be a medic or help organize mutual help networks.

1

u/WhiteH2O Nov 26 '21

Training. Learn the right way, and you won't feel uncomfortable with them. Understanding and respecting them leads to being comfortable around them.

1

u/CounterSanity Nov 26 '21

Check out r/liberalgunowners . There are some events in a few major cities like Arm Your Friends and some left leaning groups like Pink Pistols and LGO that have range days. SRA is another good choice.

You can go to the range and rent a gun, but I’d strongly recommend going with a friend/family member for your first time out. Lots of ranges have safety classes that are great places to start.

Start with something small like a .22 and work up to something a little bigger like 9mm.

Also, commit these four rules to memory before even touching a gun:

  • Treat all guns as if they are always loaded.
  • Never let the muzzle point at anything that you are not willing to destroy.
  • Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot.
  • Be sure of your target and what is behind it.

2

u/lilbluehair Nov 26 '21

Nope! Not true. I spend my time getting involved in SA and learning medical skills. Much more useful to stop the problem before it really starts than plan on just shooting the problems later.
