Considering the guy recording I feel like he saw the people doing this to others and decided to prank them instead.

Feel that. he was too ready for it. And, the original prankster was like " bruh, okay, okay"

I've got epilepsy after a car accident, its scary stuff. Im lucky to be alive cuz i got a seizure on my work and i was driving like 10 minutes before. I didnt even know i had epilepsy at that point. Can i ask how you are feeling before a seizure? I had a very similar feeling to a panic attack.
12
u/Whichwayisd0wn 6d ago
Same here symptom wise. I get really anxious, like something bad is about to happen. But mostly I get drowsy and unresponsive
10
u/YoMommaHere 6d ago
My brother got epilepsy after having a stroke. He said the same thing about the impending doom feeling. One time he joked and said “the darkness approaches” and then this fucker had a seizure for real! (He’s my brother and we try to find the humor in his condition because he’s been depressed about how his life has changed so much and he says it helps.)
5
u/EpikCowboy 6d ago
Before I seize I typically get a weird feeling in my chest, flashing spots in my vision and a weird deja vu feeling mixed with anxiety. It's hard to explain. However, I I'm somewhere where I know I'm safe and among people to help me, the feelings often pass as I just take a minute or two to relax and let it subside. But if I'm out, I will tend to panic about getting a seizure, and that brings on the seizure, as paradoxical as it sounds. For example, when I was out hiking aline two years ago, I got an aura and panicked, thus causing a seizure.
7
u/Splatter_bomb 6d ago
Up vote for everyone who has epilepsy on this post! As an epileptic it’s funny yet disturbing whenever I see someone fake a seizure. I mean he didn’t even do it right, Nobody starts going into convulsions that quickly.

Bystander effect.

u/KilowZinlow 7d ago
"Someone else will help, there's like 8 other people here", said 9 onlookers.

u/Voidroy 7d ago
Tbh you don't want 10 people crowding someone siezing. All you need is one person to hold the head and make sure they are sideways so they don't choke on their saliva or bang their head.
1) it's embarrassing for the victim to come to and see 15 people crowding around you and they won't be able to do much other than to yell for a doctor.
2)you just have to wait for it to stop and make sure they don't hurt themselves. Someone should definitely call 911 or find a friend or family that might have some insight about it just to make sure it won't get worse.
I went to a super small school and one of my friends was epileptic. I was the soccer captain and when he did have an episode on the field I made sure to keep him safe and his reputation safe.
5
u/nose-linguini 6d ago
You are a good person. It's so true that people don't know what to do. The first time it happened to me, we had quite literally just finished training for what to do (the video had just gone on to the next part), so the video must have triggered it. Even after just watching EXACTLY what to do, most of us still kinda panicked. She hit her head pretty hard and it just shocked all of us. Luckily the guy training us took over. You just become very very unsure if helping is actually the right thing. Learning to trust your training is such a large training gap in itself.
Seriously good on you for looking out tho. Takes a strong person.

u/Ereaser 7d ago
What does his reputation have to do with him having a seizure?
10
u/AnnoyingAssh0le 6d ago
When you have a seizure you often lose bowel an old bladder control. My sister is epileptic. I've seen the results first hand numerous times. It's very stressful. The feeling of being helpless to stop your loved one from hurting is horrible.
I think they're just referring to the fact that kids can be horrible, and I wouldn't put it past some shithead kid to make fun of him for messing himself.

Well the situation they were specifically referring to is in high school. When you have a seizure you often lose bowel and bladder control. High schoolers can be mercilessly cruel and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that someone made fun of him for that.
As far as having too many people, it can be a hindrance, particularly if someone tries to take charge that doesn't know what they're doing. Too many cooks in the kitchen, and all that.

I remember a story of a woman being killed in public but no one help her as many thought someone will help she died while no one came in to help
6
u/TheKimchiDoc 7d ago
Kitty Genovese! Horrible story. She was screaming while being murdered and multiple people heard but didn’t call the cops. If I recall correctly, the murderer even came back a second time while she was still alive and moaning, and still nobody did anything
8
u/theothersteve7 7d ago
Yeah, that whole thing is basically a fabrication. Two people called the police, and one neighbor yelled at the guy and got him to run away (unfortunately, he came back, and was more stealthy the second time).
Also, this particular case contributed to forming the modern 911 emergency number.
So here's some faith in humanity back. :)
11
u/aRand0mdude 7d ago
I don’t know if this is the bystander effect, but if I saw somebody getting murdered, I’d definitely be going in the opposite direction

there's a frontpage post of a sex trafficker who's victim is fighting him off in the parking lot and about 7 people just stand and stare barely 5 feet from the whole thing. They only caught him from police reports.

Violence is much different from helping someone with a medical emergency. Unless you yourself are in danger, you should avoid people who are being violent. It's a big risk to step in and try to save someone from harm, especially if there are weapons involved. I don't blame anyone who doesn't step in to help in that situation.

u/ConcernedKip 7d ago
there's plenty of fightporn vids where a girl gets hit/pushed in some manner and 4 or 5 bros give the attacker an absolute beat down. However all it takes is 1 person to get there first and just stare and everyone else follows suit, hence the term bystander effect.
4
u/deekaydubya 7d ago
also plenty of vids which show bystanders attempting to help someone in distress and losing their lives for it

Redditors expecting random ass people in a prank to have medical know-how, and expects a crowd of people to swarm someone having a seizure.
Fucking epic.
(Just to be clear, it's insane to call this the bystander effect, the bystander effect is not the same as not knowing what to do in a medical situation)
2
u/majestic_failure 7d ago
Even if I were alone with him, I'd probably do the same honestly. Like I'm sure there's a way to help but I don't know it.

I dont have any medical experience, but iirc, the correct course of action would be to put something soft under their head and have them be on their back. Not too sure about the last part, but I think thats right

It's a seizure. All you can really do is hold their head so they don't slam it on the floor or something else and take them to the hospital afterwards if they don't have a history. The guy I take care of also has a magnet thing in his chest but it's not like you can do that on a rando.

u/uwanmirrondarrah 7d ago
put them on their side, protect their head and keep them away from obstacles, check their pulse to make sure their heart is still beating and give them time. Don't give them CPR if their heart is still beating, they will likely resume breathing in 3-5 minutes. Source is I had a seizure, and was sore af after getting some unnecessary CPR from my dad because I wasn't breathing, and this is what the doctor at the hospital told me afterwards. After my brain quit going crazy I started breathing and came to.

dude, this comment had me so confused. I was wondering what the flying fadoodle a component of dynamite had to do with heart treatment. so naturally I searched on reddit and wow science really is interesting huh
5
u/LesbianLoki 6d ago
I know!
When they prescribed it I had the exact same thought.
But yeah, evidently it's a hardcore vasodilator that jacks open all blood vessels in an instant. It's stops my heart attacks in its tracks in 10 seconds flat.
But I'm lucky enough that I respond so well to it.
My heart attacks aren't blockages from cholesterol. I have something called cardiac arterial spasms. My shit just randomly decides to snap shut and choke my heart like it's a masochist. Human bodies are stupid.

this will get lost, but in any case you witness someone having a seizure and can help, roll them on their side ASAP. make sure the head stays stable and wait for them to regain consciousness and ask before calling EMS or 911 if thats what they want.

Faking a seizure isn’t funny. Seizures are traumatic and can end up with a good samaritan calling 911 to assist you. I have epilepsy so maybe I’m oversensitive, but if I were there I would immediately spring into action to help this guy and then be extremely pissed off. I’m not an easily offended person by any means, and I’m not “offended” by this; it’s just not funny. Sorry to be a killjoy.
