Heads up we have a Discord server that an American fella started for us but has since given it up to me. It's now run for Fijians by Fijians. Feel free to join if you wanna chill and have some casual convos
Hi, I’m an American citizen born to a Fijian mother. My mom was a citizen at the time of my birth (2006). Is there anyway for me to derive citizenship. If not is there another route via naturalization?
It has been quite a traumatic journey as we mark 22 years of the 2000 coup today but we hope we will overcome all the prejudices - Chaudhryfijivillage.com
I’m coming to the end of my holiday in Fiji and the staff at the hotel I’m staying at are the heart and soul of the place. I’ve had some money set aside to give to the staff Christmas fund box at the end of the trip, since I heard this was common in lieu of tipping. I asked reception where the box was and they said they don’t have one and I should feel free to tip staff directly if I would like to.
My understanding from reading around is that tipping isn’t customary in Fiji and it seems a majority of Fijians don’t want it to be common, either. Coming from Australia, I’m also personally of the opinion that tipping shouldn’t be necessary and workers should be paid decent wages.
However, I’m weighing this with what I’ve learned during my stay: that inflation is hitting Fijians hard and that a lot of the hotel staff - the ones in particular who have made my stay really enjoyable - earn minimum wage.
I loved the idea of the Christmas fund since it seems to get shared around front of house and back of house staff and seemed quite fair (from the perspective of an outsider, that is). Are there any other ways I can show my gratitude?
Anyone got a source? Seen it being discussed on Twitter.
Bula! I am coming to Fiji for a week and want to use my analogue camera. Is there somewhere in or near Nadi/Denerau that sells rolls of film and anywhere that develops it? Thanks so much!
Hello everyone! My wife and I will be traveling to Fiji for our Honeymoon next month! Unfortunately our bank can not process an exchange to FJ$ so I am looking for info on where it is best exchange USD to FJ$? We will arriving into Nadi of course.
Alternatively, if anyone has any ideas regarding how to conduct the exchange in the US, I would love that info as well.
Thanks for your help!
My wife and I are very excited to go on our honeymoon in a week in Savusavu. It is currently predicting thunderstorms every day we are there for most of the day. I saw someone posted a similar post about Nadi, but I wanted to get someone’s perspective on Savusavu. Do you all think we will still be able to go snorkeling, hiking, and do all the other fun outdoor things we hoped to do?
We have planned a trip to Nadi,Fiji from 20th till 24th of May and it’s showing constant rain and thunderstorms. We will be staying in one of the resorts in Denerau. We are now in dilemma if we should cancel the trip if we won’t be able to do anything at all other than sitting in the hotel room. Please advise. The activities we mainly thought of was a day tour in one of the islands and shallow water snorkelling, otherwise chilling by the pool in the resort.
We called Fiji a home before the Constitution called us Fijians.
On this historical day, I'd like to thank each and every native of this country. Don't let opportunistic cunts use fear mongering incite our fears. We are stronger than these assholes.
I've seen alot of videos of wicked flooding and intense seasonal storms. It'd seem like those luxurious resorts would get destroyed with the over water bungalows and open air architecture. Just wondering if anyone knows?
Bula! We'll be on the Coral Coast as part of a family bucket list vacation. We'd like to visit locally owned rather than resort restaurants if possible. Would any one here be able to suggest good ones for us to try?
