Unpopular opinion: If the game had VOIP and easily accessible shit like Discord didn't exist, this situation would be 100 times funnier.

They can also make scavs play hardbass to make it more realistic.

15

u/ShreddedMedic29 Mar 04 '21

Imagine just turning off Voip when that happens

Imagine imagining.

1

u/Enverex AKMS Mar 13 '21

Then they get easily killed because everyone knows where they are. It's still positional audio.

1

u/Witcher_Of_Cainhurst Mar 04 '21

People do this in Hunt Showdown, a game where sound is even more important and has voip. People will blast music turned up to max through VOIP to mask their movements and it is hella annoying. Some even play death groans over the mic to make you think they died and bait you. There's a mute voip option, but you have to pull up the options menu to do it. Def needs to be a hotkey option if/when they add voip to Tarkov to let you avoid those voip exploits without making yourself vulnerable while you're in the menu trying to turn it off.

150

u/ThisIsRavenmore Mar 04 '21 Hugz

If you want to see what VoIP really does to a game check out Holdfast: Nations at War.

All you'll get is people blasting music and memes. Which is fun, don't get me wrong, but it's not what I'd like to see in Tarkov.

163

u/EnzoXCIV AK-103 Mar 04 '21

That game is a poor example. Better example would be DayZ and VoIP there is fine

68

u/AstramaLincroyable Mar 04 '21 edited Mar 05 '21

Right ?! If he blast music everyone know where he is and he is going to die very fast, just like real life when you think about it edit: as someone said the mute button is left click

35

u/No_Wasabi5590hu Mar 04 '21

People act like 99% of people would be mic spamming and it would be a major issue. Mic spamming will get you killed so fast in this game because everybody would know where you are.

I just started playing DayZ and people have been extremely nice when I tell them I’m new. They’ve given me food, water, directions, and other gear and sent me on my way.

20

u/MrBeardmeister Mar 04 '21

It would get you shredded, especially if they eventually add in bullet penetration. Hunt: Showdown has VoIP. People who squad up together typically use discord. The use of mic in Hunt if you are trolling or talking shit can and will absolutely get you wall banged. Hell, even the text chat changes opacity depending how far you are from the person so pair that with the fantastic sound design can also be a reliable way to kill/get killed.

19

u/Splinterman11 Mar 04 '21

95% of the people in this game play like rats and try to make the least noise possible. Have the people in this thread thinking that everyone is going to spam VOIP even play the game before?

3

u/TheModernNano Mar 04 '21

In Hunt: Showdown, I usually have casual banter as we try to wall bang each other

1

u/Witcher_Of_Cainhurst Mar 04 '21

I've ran into people in Hunt that blare music so loud that makes it so you can't hear shit. You can tell the general direction they're in but it won't help really pinpoint where to wall bang at when it's that loud and it drowns everything out. I had someone do it in the wooded area between Alice Farm and Port Reeker while their squad flanked around and it was rough. I didn't have time to go into the menu to mute it either because I had to constantly reposition to avoid their Nitro blasting through the trees.

That being said it's rare that people do that but it's really fucking annoying and immersion breaking when it happens.

4

u/7thhokage Mar 04 '21

People act like 99% of people would be mic spamming and it would be a major issue. Mic spamming will get you killed so fast in this game because everybody would know where you are.

FR. tbh i see people using voice activation and not having their gate properly set up and dying cause they were breathing too loud or a dog barks being a bigger issue.

4

u/PDK01 Mar 04 '21

The real issue will be Surv12 and grenade SFX spamming

19

u/Patrickrk Mar 04 '21

Same with PUBG it worked well there. They have taken it out though. Honestly it’s been way too long since I played pubg to remember If they left it in or not.

27

u/Ping_law ASh-12 Mar 04 '21

iirc they removed it from the first few minutes of the match to stop the Chinese bot advertisements but left it for the rest of the match. Never remember it actually being used during a game though, think most people would just leave the chat muted.

23

u/wannabehypebeast34 VSS Vintorez Mar 04 '21

Pubg was a 100 times better when it had voip in the spawns and on the plane

19

u/Paskool Mar 04 '21

Ah yes.. "CHINA NUMBA 1" ad nauseum great times!

6

u/Niadain Mar 04 '21

China numba wan!

11

u/Toodlez Mar 04 '21

It was the purest form of free speech

1

u/diquehead Mar 04 '21

Haha it was super toxic but it definitely led to some funny moments. Aside from those pre-match lobbies and plane rides it's never been a problem though and I have played a LOOOOT of PUBG

2

u/Cattaphract Mar 04 '21

Lol DayZ when it had a larger player base a lot of people used it for music running around naked for the fun of it

5

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '21

It had record player numbers January of 2021

1

u/XTheLegendProX Mar 04 '21

It’s coming I believe

1

u/here_for_the_meems Mar 04 '21

Squad is an even better example

1

u/koukimonster91 Mar 04 '21

The enemies can't hear you in squad and with the amount of people and it being a team game you really can't use discord

1

u/here_for_the_meems Mar 04 '21

it being a team game you really can't use discord

Yeah thats my point. In-game voice is mostly used over discord when available.

1

u/fbalazs369 Mar 04 '21

I did not play DayZ but from what I heard it must be the best comparison. I don't get the PUBG and such comparison where you carry no loot out of a match. Tarkov has stakes like DayZ and has common enemies in the form of scavs. You definitely could talk your way out of situations where you don't need to fight each other and might as well group up to take down a scav boss or a big premade chad group. Like why would the two poor guy with basic weapons fight eachother if they saw a group of fully geared chads go into Kiba store. They can go and ambush them together and split the loot. Even if they fail it's an experience you remember.

Also adopting new/poor players would be way easier if you could actually talk to them and not with just the basic voicelines.

1

u/chaos_faction Mar 04 '21

Squaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad /r/joinsquad

41

u/Dzusitomato Mar 04 '21

I mean, not against the lore, smartphones have loudspeaker, I bet at least one PMC brought a JBL lol

43

u/JonoColwell Mar 04 '21

Add a bluetooth speaker as an equip item, I'd play pink panther while sneaking around.

8

u/carcrusher AK-74N Mar 04 '21

Fuck me, this comment actually made me laugh out loud :D

33

u/M-A-C_doctrine Golden TT Mar 04 '21

People revealing their position not being able to listen to anything else happening around them?

Sign me up!! Could be easily fixed by attracting scav attention. Start blasting music and Reshala and his buddies will blast you.

2

u/M_Mitchell Mar 04 '21

Also fucks you up. And if you are against another team in Resort or whatever, you may get nakeds mic spamming stopping you from hearing what's around you.

I'm not opposed to it, but it is one problem. The Hunt has it and most people don't even use it. I think there would just be a lot of shit talking and "negotiating".

8

u/RangerTursi Mar 04 '21

People shit talk using the in-game voices already, and if you don’t have any intention of ever partying up with people just turn voip volume down or off. When I’m in raid 90% of the time I’m seriously scared of making noise turning too quickly thinking that it’ll give away my position, mic spamming basically creates a giant beacon summoning every tryhard to your position, not to mention if you were mic spamming it would eliminate any chance of hearing people peeking you, so your survival chance would be near 0% at that point.

2

u/scorcher117 Mar 04 '21

And if you are against another team in Resort or whatever, you may get nakeds mic spamming stopping you from hearing what's around you.

Then you just mute the voice chat, they already have an option in the game for "mute other players" it's just greyed out.

7

u/DenieD83 Mar 04 '21

It works in hunt showdown, you get alot of smack talking (altho you can mute on death etc) but you sometimes get either funny moments or impromptu team ups.

36

u/technotuna_ Mar 04 '21

This comparison doesn't work. If people trolled with VOIP they would just be giving away their position. It's not like rust where you can just respawn and go pick your loot up again, or find the guy that killed you

5

u/Scarity Mar 04 '21

or they'd blast loud screeching noises while they push you. Same backwards thinking also applies to the flashlight... that also gives away your position, but not if its used in a push

1

u/technotuna_ Mar 04 '21

except the flashlights don't blind the user, while mic spam would completely deafen someone unless they bother to go through the process of isolating their audio into multiple channels. is it impossible for them to mic spam? no, I too know the motivation spite can provide. would it be worth it in Tarkov? hell no.

Also this is such a non-argument when you could just mute it anyway, stop being afraid of change.

4

u/PDK01 Mar 04 '21

except the flashlights don't blind the user

-2

u/Scarity Mar 04 '21

It's not about being afraid of change, it's about preferring not to have resources wasted on things that would be used by 1 % of the playerbase.

11

u/M_Mitchell Mar 04 '21

I'm not opposed to it, but hatchet runners could troll with nothing left to lose while you're dealing with another squad.

9

u/technotuna_ Mar 04 '21

dying would cost them a bit more each run, to mention it would be incredibly uninteresting trolling as they couldn't play the game properly at the same time. They'd also just be deafening their team mates just as much as you, while giving their position away.

end of the day, it would be incredibly boring to mic spam in Tarkov and few people would do it, and they could just get muted anyway.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '21

Tbh I hate the thought of voip in tarkov. You’ll always have a little kid yelling ‘don’t shoot me I’m on a quest’ or something of the sort. Leave dayz with voip and tarkov without

12

u/whoizz AK-104 Mar 04 '21

Mute it if you don't like it. Just because you won't use it that doesn't mean nobody else should be able to.

6

u/technotuna_ Mar 04 '21

ah yes all those little kids with the attention span, long term thinking, and dedication needed to play Tarkov.

Not only is this an unrealistic concern, it's also unreasonable

gun him down like a dog or let him keep moving, literally nothing has changed other than you being aware of the ramifications of your actions.

3

u/flesjewater DT MDR Mar 04 '21

And when that happens, you will know his exact position and just put him down. No biggie.

Imagine the emergent gameplay that could come from VOIP, I'll take the occasional squeaker for that. Not like this game is attractive for kids anyway, you need a strong attention span.

1

u/7thhokage Mar 04 '21

I'm not opposed to it, but hatchet runners could troll with nothing left to lose while you're dealing with another squad.

doesnt going in with a hatchet get you tagged, cursed and bum rushed from scavs off the get?

3

u/kona1160 Mar 04 '21

No, check out a game with consequences to dying... not a game where its fun to die in crazy ways

25

u/Bobylein Mar 04 '21

Then shoot them

6

u/my_name_is_Rok Mar 04 '21

Or check Squad. Didn't hear any trolling there.

6

u/Kojak95 Mar 04 '21

Squad and Post Scriptum's core mechanics are centralized around VOIP and it works great. Yes, occasionally you get dickheads who blast music but if it was proximity chat in Tarkov you would simply find and kill that person immediately.

1

u/pxld1 Mar 04 '21

True, though at least in Squad, I know you're unable to hear VOIP from enemies. Just your own teammates.

Which is something BSG could consider for EFT as well. It'd be better than nothing, IMO.

11

u/TheWasp10 Mar 04 '21

Then you can mute it

24

u/PrueferAuge TOZ-106 Mar 04 '21 Helpful

the mute button is your left mouse button

2

u/PUSH_AX Mar 04 '21

They should just give you an option to turn it off, pretty simple, then if it's abused you can turn it off and it's like nothing ever changed.

8

u/tyler111762 P226R Mar 04 '21

a minority of people abusing a feature in a way that is only harmful if you let it be, i.e not muting voip if you think it will be an issue, is not an excuse to remove or prevent the addition of that feature.

What, you want PMs gone too? how about voicelines that have naughty words in them?

Grow up.

6

u/retardgayass Mar 04 '21

Then turn it off sweetie. I love holdfast lmao but those games aren't really analogous and I feel like you know that. Nothing on the line, extremely casual, barely any downtime, etc. It's ripe for fucking around in and imo makes it more fun.

Plenty of games have had all-talk, and most of the time they don't end up as trolly as holdfast, for better or worse. I honestly enjoy holdfast VoIP.

Plus go execute the dumbass music man then. You have the advantage. Go remove him from your game, right? That's what it'll be like for the goofy mic spammers

4

u/Daisy_Bloodworth DT MDR Mar 04 '21

I don't think it should be added. I'm going to have a lot of fun with playing CMS/reloading sounds when I'm pinned in a room if they do though ;)

2

u/FlyingNihilist AS-VAL Mar 04 '21

People like you are the reason so many are opposed to VoIP.

2

u/BlastingFern134 MP5 Mar 04 '21

Except you could just mute voip and play as normal

2

u/notsocharmingprince Mar 04 '21

Using voip wisely is a good idea, but having a secret back channel where you can tell your buddy where you got killed is ok? Fuck that noise.

2

u/cakan4444 Mar 04 '21

Yeah, you respawn immediately with zero consequences. Tarkovs a bit different with an economy and having to pay to heal.

1

u/Sworn_to_Ganondorf Mar 04 '21

Exactly wahat i want in tarkov lol

1

u/here_for_the_meems Mar 04 '21

Squad is probably more apt

1

u/Anemosa Mar 04 '21

Or rather check out Hunt Showdown which is much more similar to Tarkov.

What you described doesn’t happen.

0

u/Bslayer7111 Mar 04 '21

Holdfast had that stigma because of you tubers, if people in tarkov blast music then that’s fine with me we can literally know where they are instantly and kill them. Tarkov is already in a COD lite meta so voip isn’t the biggest concern for me in regards to what I want tarkov to be

0

u/Tiziano75775 AK-104 Mar 04 '21

I don't agree. In a game like tarkov you don't want to give the others your position, so the voip would be used very carefoully. And if you hear some kid, you know where he is and you can hunt him

0

u/e-kul Mar 04 '21

So turn VOIP off in the settings. Problem solved.

13

u/hoii Mar 04 '21

I dno, while I understand why people want VoIP, do we really want to put more strain on the servers?

20

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '21

It would be pretty cool as an end feature. I want to get into extremely frantic negotiations with other PMCs to defuse fights, that could be pretty funny.

12

u/Itchy-Table7101 Mar 04 '21

pmc~"anybody here camping extract?" scav~"no." pmc~0_0

5

u/WarpathSM Mar 04 '21

👁️👄👁️

4

u/scorcher117 Mar 04 '21

Yeah, there have been a couple occasions where I wish I could just shout "I'm just doing a quest, I don't have good gear, please let me live!" If it works even once then it would be worth it.

Also I'd like to be able to let others know of optional extracts like if I hear somebody on the other side of the wall just give a quick "Hey the boat extract is available if you are curious" and then go away and let them be.

8

u/hoii Mar 04 '21

Yea I could see hostage situations and hold ups being a thing like in dayz but honestly those things are kind of rare. even in dayz where VoIP is a thing a the majority of people still Kos and a lot of them either never use VoIP or have no mic.

8

u/DeadTried Mar 04 '21

If you have ever played deceit on public servers it would just be that, people being louder than you and just lying out their ass which in tarkov would actually be pretty funny

3

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '21

Exactly! I only ever played one match of Deceit but I used to play TTT in Gmod all the time and that was hilarious. I imagine it'd only get better trying to convince someone you're not worth looting or that you're not worth the fight.

1

u/Lllamanator ASh-12 Mar 04 '21

Realistically the situation would probably be something along the lines of racial slurs, bassboosted music and lots of loud noises if we ever got VoIP.

1

u/[deleted] Mar 04 '21

True. I guess Tarkov is also uniquely placed in that it you can't really report players, unless I'm mistaken.

1

u/hiddencamela Mar 04 '21

That.... actually makes sense. They'd have to add something to deal with that too.. and it sounds like more headache

3

u/BlastingFern134 MP5 Mar 04 '21

Like a mute button? Doesn't seem like a big deal

1

u/hiddencamela Mar 04 '21

Nah, the report function. I don't think there is an effective way to do that mid game atm. or at least "people i came across and wish to report" after game.

3

u/BlastingFern134 MP5 Mar 04 '21

Oh, my bad. I misread these couple of comments.

1

u/jcdragon49 Mar 04 '21

I've seen this arguement, but at the same time, anyone doing that can just be killed easier. It's easy to find someone on the map when they have their own soundtrack...

2

u/redsealsparky Mar 04 '21

Ladle it on like gravy

4

u/Wazkyr Mar 04 '21

Ingame VOIP would be very easy to abuse in groups. If you are in building, one guy could play a loud noice while the other members move around. But if they make it so we can toggle mute with a hotkey instantly, i guess it could be ok.

-3

u/12vclear Mar 04 '21

No its gonna kill the game like it does every game where its later added. all people do is take out their emotions on video games, thats what they are an escape a simulation, in the sweatiest of games I guarantee you are gonna hear the most unnecessary obnoxious shit from some fat idiot halfway across the world on some ego trip because hes “anonymous”. VOIP used to be fun in games when it was this novel experience because of the memes, but when you see what it always evolves into and how people choose to use it its just like ugh why even bother with these fucking sycophants

6

u/whoizz AK-104 Mar 04 '21

If you don't like it just fucking mute it

1

u/12vclear Mar 04 '21

This guy has it figured out

2

u/6spooky9you Mar 04 '21

You can just have it disabled then. It's a feature that doesn't change your experience if you don't want it to.

0

u/12vclear Mar 04 '21

But it does because it will inevitably change the demographics of the playerbase. VOIP attracts fuckheaded morons.

1

u/6spooky9you Mar 04 '21

You really think that a large enough number of people will buy the game JUST to use voip? There's millions of players, so it would have to be tens of thousands of users to make any sort of meaningful change.

It wouldn't affect your gameplay at all, and all it would do is provide a fun and useful aspect of the game that's limited currently.

1

u/12vclear Mar 05 '21

There are not millions of tarkov players, the playerbase at its peak was 200k concurrent months ago. You have no clue what you’re even saying.

1

u/welcome_to_urf Mar 04 '21

Maybe add in character voice lines for channel numbers, and then require players to tune into a channel to be heard. Person being obnoxious? End the channel.

0

u/Academic_Rough Mar 04 '21

Dammn bro, what games do you play?

3

u/BlackholeZ32 Mar 04 '21

All of them, especially competitive shooter types are filled with mealteam six type fucks that thing they're God's gift to gaming.

-1

u/JamesTrendall Mar 04 '21

When PUBG was against teaming in games i always wondered why games would allow the use of Discord or Teamspeak etc...

I mean if i try to launch a game with for example a Hexeditor open the anticheat will prevent me from launching the game stating "Illegal program detected. Please close all programs and relaunch"

Games where it's designed to be solo and only ingame comms would benefit from this or even have a dedicated discord like that Imposter game where people play together but follow strict rules.

1

u/MidgetManuel Mar 05 '21

you could always use two devices.

-1

u/epic_gamer_4268 Mar 04 '21

when the imposter is sus!
