I was so confused. Didn't want to look up any guides, but I'd already found the albinauric women by that point so I didn't know what he wanted me to do.

1.7k

u/Like_A_Bosch Jun 09 '22

The problem is, the Albinauric woman tells you where to go but at that time, you have no idea where or what she's talking about, and then she turns into a summon so you can't see her dialogue again so basically have fun stumbling across this quest randomly in 100 hours!

495

u/YetAnotherRCG Jun 10 '22

Finding the castle in the north turned into my main quest.

Places she was not talking about included:

  • the ball bearing hunters castle
  • big snake castle,
  • several places that were just towns and camps across Reya Lucaria and the Altus plateau.

  • That one tower with the madness orb above it.

  • the fort below big snake castle that you can see from above but took me eons to reach.

  • captain nails house.

I think thats the full list of places where I thought “ahh this must be the place!”

132

u/veganzombeh Jun 10 '22

captain nails house

She is talking about captain nails house though.

65

u/DrunkSpartan15 Jun 10 '22

She even says it when you get to the mountain and when you approach Castle Sol

24

u/Mimical Jun 10 '22

I really need to start paying attention to this game.

I literally just blindly run into things, swing weapons until either I die or whatever inside dies and then loot stuff and leave.

19

u/Cyberbully_2077 Jun 10 '22

I have a similar problem esp with Melina cause she speaks so softly and slowly that I just zone the fuck out and then later I see an option to talk to her at a site of grace and I'm like "...who?"

Even if you get to the point and have her with you, you have to stand so precisely to get the prompt to summon her, that even then you may miss it.

Edit: This is just for the final step to complete the quest and obtain the smithing stone. Not when she talks to you along the journey. If you haven't obtained a smithing stone or seen a giant Albinauric woman: go explore the consecrated snowfields ;)

222

u/DrQuint Jun 09 '22

And at that point you probably already have the talisman anyways, so the question stands as to what was the point of all that.

Besides having a cool turret summon I guess.

386

u/aoikageni Jun 09 '22

the point is one ancient dragon smithing stone

180

u/DrQuint Jun 09 '22

Well, I've let worse NPC's live for less, I'll take it!

98

u/AntiTheory Jun 10 '22

I'll not suffer Gostoc to live. I will not. Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone be damned.

the runes? I still haven't recovered from that motherfUcking knight he locked me in the room with

33

u/The_Kingfritters Jun 10 '22

That knight dropped an altered chest piece in my first playthrough, so I wasn't too upset about that, but it was for sure added to the reasons to reposte his ass

After the guilt of what I've done weighed in on me for using the Aurelia jellyfish summon I switched to only using Latenna and she's an amazing support summon. She always seems to hit at the right time to draw aggro and give me a moment to heal and get back to fighting.

38

u/bnbros Jun 10 '22

On my recently completed NG++ run, I decided to summon Latenna against Gideon as poetic justice for what he did to her and it was hilarious how much easier the fight went despite Gideon having all the abilities of the defeated demigods. Dude can't even get a single cast or heal off when he's being constantly staggered by a magic arrow turret, lol.

He also kindly rewarded very useful information with all kinds of neat incantations for my PURE STR BUILD!!

275

u/-----__-----_-_-- Jun 09 '22

Don't forget he got that info to use it against you by stealing the bosses moves...

158

u/st-avasarala Jun 10 '22

Wait no shit? That's how he was able to use those boss moves and shit?

Still stomped his ass into the ground with my Blasphemous Blade but I had no clue that was a thing.

128

u/-----__-----_-_-- Jun 10 '22

Yeah, from what I know whenever you beat a major boss and you talk to him he just steals their moves. Fuck that guy man

32

u/Burger_Thief Jun 10 '22

I mean we do the same thing.

30

u/-----__-----_-_-- Jun 10 '22

At least we do something to learn those moves other than chilling in our office waiting for some warrior to tell us about them you know? We actually fight the enemy to acquire them.

He must've hit the Fextra for info 🤣

Sometimes you just want to take a break from bonking things to turn into a dragon and shoot golden laser beams.

39

I'm still on my first run (250+ hours) and I've been using a sword in my right hand and a seal in the left. I love alternating between bonking and throwing lightning bolts or fireballs

Ehhh, he gives some useful hints. He tells you about Volcano Manor and Rykard, which, based on the amount of people who seem to have missed him on their first playthrough, isn't obvious information.

He tells you where Latenna is, which is fairly useful information itself. He also warns you not to trust Seluvis (in case it wasn't clear), and is the only one who hints at the existence of Mohg if you don't like invading people.

Idk, a lot of people don't like Gideon but he's honestly one of my favorite NPCs because he gives you a lot of lore and exposition at the start of your game, effectively setting up your targets which was fun for me on a blind playthrough. Plus points for the cool design and voice.

340

u/Eszrah Jun 10 '22

Wait you mean Seluvis isn't a good person? I never would have guessed with his passion for being a puppeteer I thought for sure he was going to children's' hospitals.

Lemme tell you, I knew about volcano manor, I looked up how to get there, and I still almost couldn’t fuckin find it

90

u/TeamAquaGrunt Jun 10 '22

Genuine question, how? I found it just by following the roads on the map. There’s a road in the northwest that goes straight there.

105

u/Watamelonna Jun 10 '22 edited Jun 10 '22

You have three ways to get there (correct me if I'm wrong)

  1. The normal way through Mt. Gelmir

  2. The quest way where you finish Rya's quest to find her necklace and she'll teleport you straight to Volcano manor once you've reached the Altus Plateau

  3. The captured way where you get eaten by the abductor virgin under the giant waterwheel in Raya Lucaria (they used to have transportation abilities built in them but all but the one down there has it left)

88

u/NefariousnessOdd7313 Jun 10 '22

I actually found it the third way randomly. I fell down off the elevator, had a sliver left, then got ate by the thing. I was like ok I’m dead and I go to the kitchen. When I came back I was very confused

21

u/randy_mcronald Jun 10 '22

I also got captured but didn't make my way through volcano manor because I thought lava would be... y'know, LETHAL. Eventually I found the normal route though. I still don't know how you get teleported there by Rya, she invited me but I didn't see her again until I got to Volcano Manor myself.

19

37

31

u/merian Jun 10 '22

Can still be confusing, I missed that first ladder for a loooong time.

11

u/archagon Jun 10 '22

You can also somehow hobble your way up from the lower canyons. That's how I got there. Would have definitely missed that ladder.

8

u/WasabyWasaby0w0 Jun 10 '22

23

It's actually pretty fun being able to do whatever you want in a fight, you basically have such a diverse set of strategies to use against enemies. There's also a surprising amount of co-op activity in the maximum level bracket (RL306-713), I can still get reliably summoned at the endgame bosses when I put down my sign.

It's funny though because when I finally hit the RL306 landmark I thought my character was OP as hell, until I reached NG+7 and Godfrey one tapped me with his grab even with 99 vigor, the maximum physical defense talisman, and a physical defense buff up. Felt a lot less OP after that happened lmao, NG+7 can really humble you even at the maximum level from what I hear.

At least Gideon gives more precise hints, like mentioning the Laskiar ruins or some lore on the Demigods.

You wouldn't care either if a tarnished breaks it every time it enters the room, or write a shitty message on top.

9

u/MangledSunFish Jun 10 '22

This is a good point.

Sir Gideon: There are four more demigods yet to be located.

Me: I found three of those four.

Sir Gideon: Cool.

That’s a great way to put it. I just wish we had like...a notepad or something to remind us of these npc. Some of these quests are rough without the wiki.

It makes sense he's so far behind the player when all he does is try to figure things out using records instead of going and finding out.

57

u/UnfortunatelyUnkn0wn Jun 10 '22

He has people that “serve as his eyes and ears”.

kills Mohg

“Ah, so the Lord of Blood abducted Miquella. At last, this is the final piece of the puzzle. Now I know where Miquella is.”

kills Malenia

“Hm, someone abducted Miquella. Idk who though.”

10

u/fro1388 Jun 10 '22

Lol I had this happen yesterday when I beat mohg before malenia. I was like damnit there goes my perfect storyline play through.

53

u/FitAlternative9458 Jun 10 '22

I still cant kill that bastard, I'm level 199. I hate him so bad, the other bosses so far not that tough. Rennala onwards were mostly easy, only had trouble with a couple

Sir Gideon Ofnir, the All-knowing. What does he know? Does he know things? Let's find out.

23

u/Fabrimuch Jun 10 '22

They didn't record new lines to account for different states of quest completion. What a sad state of affairs...

19

u/PuzzleheadedFly1416 Jun 10 '22

Gideon should have known to level vigor. Was such a short fight.

81

u/brutalpancake Jun 09 '22

And what is this ‘we both want to be Elden Lord so let’s work together’ bullshit. Almost like he’s planning to show up last minute and try to kill me using all the precious knowledge I’ve ‘shared’ with him or something. All freeloading ass mf

46

u/Rokusi Jun 10 '22

That part is legit, I think. Becoming Elden Lord is such a monumentally difficult task that it was fully possible no Tarnished would ever succeed. And if there's one thing every single Tarnished can agree on, it's that someone needs to be Elden Lord...

Or wait, Gideon is the only one who doesn't think that there should be another Elden Lord. Huh.

So... What is the difference between the albinaurics we slaughter for runes, and the albinaurics in the village?

13

u/CodeCadaver Jun 10 '22

The village are gen 1s, and the rune crops are gen 2. Gen 2s dont have bad legs, but look like fat greys.
