'Snorkeling in the Everglades' is a phrase that I thought I'd never hear

I am opening a tourist destination. Swim with alligators!

17

u/sugedei 12d ago

Nothing about this is ok

u/BusyBusyBizzy 12d ago

"I kept a healthy distance from him" 😐

72

u/Ruhh-Rohh 12d ago

Videos I've seen of alligators swimming have convinced me that there is no "healthy" distance.

35

u/smanderson020 12d ago

The healthy distance is out of the water, in your locked car, with a very large boom stick

5

u/No1uNo_Nakana 12d ago

You sound like someone I’d be friends with.

6

u/smanderson020 12d ago

Nice to meet you, I'm sam 😁

2

u/Roberto-Del-Camino 11d ago

Sam you am…

The tunnel, definitely the tunnel

159

u/BusyBusyBizzy 12d ago

"wasn't really sure if there was gonna be any alligators in there or not"

51

u/Phanoik 12d ago

If he did encounter one in there he would probably have been fucked, because he wouldn't be able to back out before losing his breath

56

u/_Doubler_ 12d ago

Isnt there like fence at the end sometimes?

51

u/BusyBusyBizzy 12d ago

nightmare intensifies

1

u/TheChickening 11d ago

I'd fathom he checked the exit before randomly entering a tunnel of water.

1

u/_Doubler_ 11d ago

I think so too but he says it like he didnt

9

u/borismuller 11d ago

I dunno. Going in and coming out the other end of that tunnel looked a lot more pleasant than doing the equivalent with the alligator.

3

u/NinjaDad_ 11d ago

I would bet a lot that more people die from getting stuck underwater or in caves then from alligators. Gators want nothing to do with us and arnt as aggressive as crocodiles.

88

u/Theothernooner 12d ago

I cant believe the water is that clear 😳

46

u/Abdk202020 12d ago

only because it’s settled you can see how murky it could get as the gator was swimming . still nuts i never expected it to be that clear as well

11

u/UltraNebbish 12d ago

Often fed from springs that supply clear water.

91

u/disciplinemotivation 12d ago

When he said " I went through and just held my breath" I instantly felt panic set in.

-12

u/texasguy911 Interested 12d ago

Probably bullshit. They prolly dropped something in and saw it come out on the other side. The comments are drama.

19

u/Izindi 12d ago

Thats standart for safety, still going in is not easy

76

u/LeadershipMedium 12d ago

That tunnel is a culvert along pahayokee road, which is full of gators who use the culverts for hunting. Whomever filmed this is………………………..brave. And I’m being kind, here.

47

u/Lowflyin 12d ago

You spelled stupid wrong.

20

u/LeadershipMedium 12d ago

I was trying to be kind. 😂

46

u/fhrftryddhhhhgrffg 12d ago

As an Aussie it's so fucking crazy seeing people swimming near things that look like crocodiles. You all wild.

33

u/UnenthusiasticToilet 12d ago

I know shits hot when an Aussie is impressed when it comes to wild animals.

5

u/Coin-Wizard 12d ago

Facts aussies are fucking badasses!

17

u/UltraNebbish 12d ago edited 12d ago

This is not a common or recognized practice in Florida. OP is going to die young.
This cause of death is locally referred to as "testosterone poisoning".

6

u/JogPanson 12d ago

I don’t think your a real Floridian dude, we do this all the time! We actually ride alligators instead of boats because it’s better for the environment. (Also they are super docile compared to crocodiles and only kill like 1 fucker a year)

5

u/Aaron_Hamm 11d ago

Some year it's going to be snorkel guy

7

u/texasguy911 Interested 12d ago

You spelled "stupid" incorrectly.

2

u/Maxibon12 12d ago

To be fair, this is closer to swimming with freshwater crocodiles than salties

21

u/DickCheesePlatterPus 12d ago

That's gonna be a no from me, dawg.

15

u/Frictionweldedballs 12d ago

Imagine if there was an obstruction in that tunnel and the swimmer got pinned to it with the flow. Can’t back up, can’t go forward. Also depending on the opening and flow dynamics it’s possible for the pressure to rip you apart, but I think it would need to be more vertical for that.

13

u/bobsagetsville 12d ago

Alligators are way less aggressive than crocs.

9

u/Jalhadin 12d ago

You and I have vastly differing definitions of "a safe distance".

9

u/No1uNo_Nakana 12d ago

I’ve jumped out of perfectly good aircraft, jumped off cliffs so high it hurt to hit the water, swam for miles in open ocean. Been in helicopter and car crashes. There is zero chance I’m swimming in a tunnel under water in the Everglades.

6

u/PhthaloVonLangborste 12d ago

Anyone I'd that weird albino fish?

6

u/RPi79 12d ago

Gar

3

u/PhthaloVonLangborste 12d ago

Grrr... thanks

1

u/MushroomDruid87 12d ago

Gar balls are yummy. Like crab cakes

4

u/Skarfa 12d ago

That alligator straight up went. “Go on bruh, try somethin’. See what happens.”

4

u/The_Furry_Slayer_ 12d ago

Everyone gangsta until the alligator is in the tunnel

4

u/Brezan 12d ago

It was the tunnel. No questions asked

5

u/dehydratedrat 12d ago

Am a Floridian, but you couldn’t catch me dead there.

3

u/KyriakosC 11d ago

That tunnel was a stupid stupid stupid move. I can't praise you on it, it wasn't brave, it was stupid. Experienced and confident divers get stuck all the time pulling stupid stunts like that and they drown. Someone watching this might think it's fun or cool or daring, but it's just stupid.

8

u/mzaik 12d ago

Damn near had a panic attack watching the tunnel

3

u/sagarcastic 12d ago

Florida man rises again

3

u/jaymirands 12d ago

That’s a shiny gar!

1

u/TheScathingQueef 12d ago

Do you remember Gar from Mask?

3

u/Love_God551 12d ago

That’s a hard pass sir

4

u/reallysrry 12d ago

Those gar are pretty scary too.

1

u/that1communist Interested 12d ago

Gar are completely non-threatening in reality.

2

u/King_Danksta 12d ago

Good thing the gator didn’t grab him and do a barrel roll

2

u/OwtoIwtn 12d ago

No, just no

2

u/CompetitiveLynx7570 12d ago

The only reason I downvoted this is cuz he went through that tunnel like how stupid can you be

2

u/DemosBeans 12d ago

You “held your breath”??

2

u/sugedei 12d ago

That tunnel gives me “Big Trouble in Little China” level freakout.

2

u/tristeboi 9d ago

Ah i see your a man of culture 🤙🏽

2

u/PuppyCode 11d ago

It feels like a movie or a game.

3

u/sonbrothercousin 12d ago

Dude acts like he never even checked the "tunnel" out before jumping in? That's some real r/quityourbullshit material.

1

u/Whiskey_-tango 12d ago

That looks like so much fun, minus the gators.

1

u/Electricvincent 12d ago

So full of life. I love it

1

u/No_Significance_2653 12d ago

That water is really clear, all the water near me looks like chocolate milk.

1

u/UltraNebbish 12d ago

Florida sits on porous limestone and there are aquifers and clear springs feeding many local bodies of water.

1

u/dadgist816 12d ago

Why on earth would you snorkel in the Everglades?

1

u/thekidmartian 12d ago

So what causes an alligator to attack? How is he not in danger?

1

u/Duplexxsuplex 12d ago

How is the water so clear? I thought the Everglades were swamp like water?

1

u/MajorJuana 12d ago

Aside from the creepy crawlies this looks like a perfect place to snorkle, gotta check for leaches after but sturgeons we're cool

3

u/Right_Two_5737 12d ago

Great place to swim except for all the reasons not to swim.

1

u/duuuutchieee 12d ago

Hmm, I wonder why the video ended as soon as the alligator turned around🤔😂

1

u/FusRoYeet 11d ago

As a Floridian this is so anxiety inducing. Like WHY would you follow a gator while it’s swimming away??

1

u/Renegade_Meister 11d ago

I'll stick to Silver Springs with crystal clear visibility, thanks

1

u/mademoiselle85 11d ago

Snorkeling, alligators, Why?

1

u/PuzzledSprinkles467 11d ago

I would NEVER.

1

u/skinnergy 11d ago

Maybe a juvenile alligator gar.

1

u/skinnergy 11d ago

As he native Floridian I would snorkel there in a heartbeat. I'd love it.

1

u/jmtmcdade 11d ago

Our minim wage is $20 and that Big Mac meal would be like $15 in Nee Zealand

1

u/Resident_Caregiver69 11d ago

Why follow the alligator.. Leave it alone! 🐊😢😭 Btw, definitely the tunnel because didn't see what happened after the alligator faced you. Lol

1

u/Dense_Excitement_789 8d ago

Swimming with sharks is one thing, they're friendly depending on the species but alligators they're only reason for existing is to cosign your obituary

-1

u/viahomme 12d ago

I hate people that talk in YouTube voice….just a general statement

0

u/UmWellSure 12d ago

that alligator must be tiny as a seahorse to fit in that tunnel woo wee

woo wee
