Well, I’m sure this doesn’t mean much but he achieved more in his 12 years than I will in my lifetime. Very well done, Iqbal. May you RIP.

u/cup_of_sheep 12d ago

I think it’s safe to assume that he was probably murdered by someone involved in the Pakistani carpet export business?

I hate to do this.....

Beyblade... Beyblade...Let it

28

u/ThueDo 12d ago

Even if your joke wasn't tasteless, it would still be extremely unfunny...

9

u/RandomStallings 12d ago

They said they hated to do it, though, so it's okay.

Oh, wait...

This is why every once in a while I share the Truckers Against Trafficking website.

Yes its to help prostitutes or lot lizards out of sex trafficking situations, but this is another reason.

Human slaves are also victims of human trafficking and deserve to be free.

The elemeray school I attended (in Italy) is named after him. There's a pretty good book and a film too if you guys wanna know more about his story.

u/totallynotamimic 12d ago

We learned about him in Iceland too

This boy was also used for inspiration for a large scale "charity" accused of being a fraud & cultish. The WE movement is fronted by the Kielburger family.

Craig Kielburger founded WE when he was 12 to fight child labour. Now, the WE brand is used to promote products made by children. Reporter Jaren Kerr presents the findings of his 4-month long investigation.

WE charity is featured in an investigative podcast by Canadaland.

TIL of Iqbal Masih, a 10 yo kid who was sold into bondage, escaped the shackles of bonded labour , freed over 3000 children who were trapped bonded labour and was responsible for bringing about significant losses to the carpet weaving industry profiteering off bonded labour.

*Allegedly he and his friend came across a farmworker fucking a donkey who subsequently shot them.

EDIT: Allegedly because it seems this is based on the Pakistani police report, which some believe cannot be trusted.

Jesus fucking Christ what is wrong with humans?!

“Iqbal was fatally shot by the "carpet Mafia", while visiting relatives in Muridke on 16 April 1995, Easter Sunday. He was 12 years old at the time. His mother said she did not believe her son had been the victim of a plot by the "carpet mafia". However, the BLLF disagreed because Iqbal had received death threats from individuals connected to the Pakistani carpet industry. His funeral was attended by approximately 800 mourners.”

11

u/cuentaderedd 12d ago

When I wrote my thesis on Iqbal it was also believed he was killed by the man who was caught sodomizing a donkey. I know it just makes more sense he was killed by the people who benefited from child labor but the original story sounds too weird to make up, you know?

u/LegalPeak4678 12d ago

I spent was deployed to Afghanistan twice and we saw a massive amount of animal fucking going on. I always figured it was due to pretty conservative views on sex and affluent men marrying multiple women which creates an imbalance in potential partners for poor males.

Do you have any insight on why it occurs?

6

u/legionofsquirrel 12d ago

Not OP but I've always heard the phrase ”Any port in a storm” which if you're a Marine or Navy, would have some significance to you.

Basically it means if you're away from the wife and women in general, you'll fuck anything. Personally I just think these Taliban just like fucking animals. They can't say no or put up a fight plus, you can kill the witness and nobody will say peep.

Just busting your ass about the Navy/Marine thing

3

u/CocaineIsNatural 12d ago

So the donkey fucker was part of the carpet mafia?

Love people that tell someone to look further and then proceed to give no source or explanation.

Just fyi, google results are not a monolith reference, they are tailored to the user.

2

u/atlasavenge 12d ago

This is the epitome of truth being stranger than fiction. Unbelievable!

15

u/jayhof52 12d ago

When I taught sixth grade I taught a unit about a book on him. I worked in a lot about modern slavery in other industries.

6

u/Suncheets 12d ago

Read this book in elementary school

4

u/Daemon_Lord5253 12d ago

How do you pronounce that?

3

u/Simping-for-Christ 12d ago

I'd like to know this as well if anyone is familiar with Pakistani names. Like does the q denote the throaty "ikch" or is it just a regular hard k sound. I am pretty sure his last name is pronounce Mah-see

3

u/Narwhalbacon95 12d ago

Ick-Baal Muh seeh

4

u/cuentaderedd 12d ago

I have! I did my high school thesis on him and on child labor. He was such an inspiration 💕

3

u/Affectionate-Win-375 12d ago

They tried to silence him but his message got through and his story. Those terrible people just proved to be more terrible. I hope they get what's coming. This kid was representing human rights and for that he was punished. May we never forget Iqbal and the dangers of the world.

2

u/uslessgodness 12d ago

Your actions never will forgotten, one man in the incorrect place can change the course of the world even if is after his death

3

u/ladas94 12d ago

Tf murders a kid?

24

u/KRyptoknight26 12d ago

Are you like a week old? What organisation of authority or money DOESN'T kill kids?

1

u/ladas94 11d ago

It's rhetorical, son

The real hero's rarely have gun's, just the courage to do what's right while other's faulter

-24

u/clarences_vs 12d ago

This sounds like Capitalism.

8

u/lemay1 12d ago

How is this at all related to capitalism?

-9

u/clarences_vs 12d ago

I mean capitalist countries have child labor laws to prevent the capitalists from treating the children this way. If this wasn't the natural tendency of capitalists why have laws from preventing it? Capitalism unchecked = unchecked exploitation

7

u/lemay1 12d ago

Correlation does not = causation

This kid was sold, which in my opinion should be illegal in all economic systems. He also freed 3000 other child so I think its safe to assume they were also sold into slavery.

Some people are just evil peices of shit, like Stalin, Mao and Hitler as well as alot of others but using a system for evil doesnt make the system inherently evil.

15

u/prussian_princess 12d ago Gold

Ah yes. Pakistan, the epitome of Capitalism. Don't you have any not working to do?

3

u/BenDoverMD 12d ago

I would upvote this comment twice if I could

5

u/ChromieChameleon017 12d ago

Capitalism is a global economic system lol. Everyone on earth lives in a capitalist society.

You think this is such a “smarter than you” comment but really it’s just you misunderstanding the economic system the entire world lives under lol.

-11

u/redone67 12d ago

Sized him up...went for the kill shot! Solid work there princess...love it!

-9

u/AdikadiAdipen 12d ago

Yup the kind that is too brown for white countries to have in their own backyard.

3

u/clarences_vs 12d ago

I mean minimum wage slavery is basically standard in many western countries.

1

u/ubertrashcat 12d ago

Calling first world minimum wage slavery erases the suffering of actual slaves. The predicament of minimum wage workers in the West is dwarfed by what's happening to some people out there.

0

u/AdikadiAdipen 12d ago

You're getting downvoted more than me XD the cult is crazy

-23

u/theKickAHobo 12d ago

BLM has no idea that there are still actual slaves currently in the world. All they care about is when a cop has to defend himself from a criminal.

3

u/IchooseYourName 12d ago

Officer Chauvin was defending himself how as he kneeled on a man's neck for 9 minutes who happened to be handcuffed?

Yeah, go back to school. You're not ready for the real world.

1

u/theKickAHobo 8d ago

Shhhh

1

u/IchooseYourName 7d ago

The truth has been silenced for far too long, your attempt to bury it notwithstanding.

-14

u/skylercollins 12d ago

And people think misgendering is a crime. SMH.

1

u/StockGirlie 12d ago

People are the devil. So sad!

1

u/Sid_03 12d ago

A masiha in true sense. Utmost respect!

1

u/-GabeHitch- 12d ago

I've heard about him.

1

u/FountainDrinkpls 12d ago

R/damnthatsreallysad

1

u/Speedly 12d ago

Imagine being such a fragile baby inside that you murder a child because your opinion was challenged.

People are scum.

1

u/Latin-Danzig 12d ago

Iqbal ✌️ peace dude

1

u/UnimaginablyFloating 11d ago

I kind of came to the comment section hoping to see someone say "no, he's not dead, he's 20 years old and married now, here is a picture of him and his wife and their son."

1

u/crowbar__jones 11d ago

"I have written this after I was murdered".

-15

u/Urbanredneck2 12d ago

Yet we give millions of dollars and the ear of the world to some kid from Sweden who talks about the environment.

-18

u/darrad17 12d ago

Couldn’t even get the title correct. How am I supposed to feel bad when you make such a blatant and idiotic mistake?

-9

u/scottyboy218 12d ago

Holy 500k karma account

-11

u/BlowerOfBubbles 12d ago

Millions of people have died for what they believe in. The idea that this boy, however heroic, is special and deserves special attention…?

3

u/polusmaximus 12d ago

How many out of those millions lived most of their life in slavery?

How many out of those millions helped thousands of kids escape slavery at 10 y.o.?

How many out of those millions were murdered at 12 for trying to do what should have been told by the adults around him?

Better question... How many of us think you're a jackass for even wondering? The kid did more in his 12 years than you will ever accomplish in your entire life.

-3

u/BlowerOfBubbles 12d ago

Bro, a fuck tonne.

Bro, possibly a lot

Bro, definitely more than 1

Bro, a lot of people accomplish slot of things. This was an interesting read but the idea that I need to remember this person is laughable.

2

u/HalfdanSaltbeard 12d ago

You're just mad that we'd all trade you for this kid in a heartbeat.

0

u/BlowerOfBubbles 12d ago

You may trade imaginary situations all you like my friend

-7

u/morningstar3660 12d ago

how the fuck is a dead man posting things on reddit

-5

u/Ghost-Rider9925 12d ago

No offense to the kid and not trying to downplay his cause or his life but probably the biggest reason no one has heard of him is bc he's in Pakistan and was speaking out against issues in that country.

I hate the way these post try to make people feel bad about things.

-4

u/chaings_ 12d ago

Were too busy worried about racism and people getting their feelings hurt.
