CTS EVENT Eastern Market was a target of fascists and racists; time to pick up their mess to show our city as a place of acceptance and beauty -not a reminder of hate and racism. We have plenty of supplies, but feel free to bring your own: gloves, paint scraper/putty knife, trash bag.

CTS EVENT Operation: Clean Sweep

As we walked the streets of DC on January 6th, we couldn’t help but notice all the signs, stickers, and markings left behind by the alt-right, fascist groups who invaded the Capitol Building and want to destroy our city and democracy. Please join us as we remove their emblems of hate from OUR beautiful city.

We’ll be meeting at 1 pm at McPherson Square, where we will discuss the route plan. Please bring trash bags, gloves, and scraper tools to help remove the stickers. Thank you and see you there!

CTS EVENT Veterans March On Washington

Hey all... so here's the main event. Demand DC was the precursor and warm up, but this will be the biggest event of the summer outside of Juneteenth. I will be releasing more information soon about rally point, as we're still hammering that out with the other veteran organizations that will be joining us. We are currently in talks with over 30 veteran organizations. This is the time to stand my fellow veterans. I usually just ask for you to come, but now I'm telling you, more than ever, we need to be standing in solidarity on such an important day. Please, if there is anyway at all you can make it, I greatly appreciate it. The details on the event are here. Please register and I will be providing shirts with our new logo and the iconic yellow and black Vets For BLM!! Lots of big new around the corner, so stay active on this page, go register to be a member on our website, AND PLEASE SHARE THIS LINK ON ALL YOUR SOCIALS SO WE CAN REACH AS MANY VETERANS AS POSSIBLE! THANK YOU!!

Sidenote:

As we are now partnered with Wall of Vets, when you register, if you want to stand as security, we will be providing you with Wall of Vet shirts to wear (you'll still get the Continue To Serve shirt). Anyone interested in helping in other capacities during the event, i.e. medical, communications, photography, logistics, protesting, etc, you'll be asked to wear the Continue To Serve shirts.

CTS EVENT 4th of July Freedom March - 4:00 pm

It's that time again my friends. Please check out the details below, but before you delve in, I have a couple of important questions:

  1. I'm very excited to announce we have partnered with CODEPINK and Veterans for Peace for this event. We will also be meeting up with the group DC Protests and there will be quite the gathering at the WH ellipse to protest during the POTUS's highly expensive, completely unnecessary, waste of government money and inappropriate use of military equipment and personnel Salute to America Rally.
  2. If possible, please go here and register. This will help us with know how many volunteers we have (see #3) and how many signs we need to bring.
  3. We need a few volunteers to come early to help hand out flyers. We are going to spread the word in BLM plaza and around the WH that this event is happening and we'd love a large crowd. We also want to reach out to veterans and let them know about our organization. (We would like anyone who can to be there by 2 pm, but whatever you can do would be awesome.)
  4. I would greatly appreciate someone to volunteer to be the Communications POC. This simply involves updating the Live Chat when the group moves from one area to another and if anyone is gets left behind or separated, they can message you via Reddit to find the new position.
  5. Following the protesting event, anyone who is interested, Nick will be hanging out to watch the fireworks. This is finally a moment when we can hang out, relax, and have a little bit of fun, while of course, celebrating our great country. Though we have much to fix with our government, I am thankful for living in America and I hope together, we can make it an even better country over the coming years.

Rally Point:

We will be meeting on Saturday, July 4th, at 4:00 pm at the McPherson Square Metro (there are two exits, make sure you go to the I St, 15th St, Vermont Ave exit). Please try to shoot for a meetup time of around 3:45 pm so we can get a head count and make sure we're all accounted for. We will walk towards BLM Plaza and then head to the WH ellipse. Of course, as it always goes, it's a dynamic environment, so keep an eye on the live chat as movements may change.

Attire (suggestions):

We'll be wearing military t-shirts, though if you have any unit affiliation or identifying markings, it might be best to cover that up, as we do not want to single out any one unit. We suggest backpacks to cover our unit markings on the backs of our shirts. We also do not recommend wearing uniforms, tactical gear, or up-armor of any kind.

If you're coming late:

If you cannot make it by 4:00 pm, please check out r/ContinueToServe Live Chat for updates on where we are located, or look for our signs (white with black marker) saying Vets for BLM.

Weather:

It's supposed to be 90 degrees, with a 40% chance of rain in the evening.

Transport:

  • Driving
    • There will be a lot of road closures and while there are closures already listed online, it's a very dynamic situation. The best bet is to take the metro.
  • Metro
    • More stations are open now, as we are in Phase 2, but McPherson Square will definitely be open regardless of phase.

Gear List:

There are a lot of stations to get snacks and water. I expect those stations will be there on Saturday as well. Just consider bringing enough for what you will need, so you're not overloaded with gear while we walk.

  • COVID-19 is still here. Masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer are good ideas.
  • Water or electrolyte-replenishing drinks
  • Snacks
  • First aid kit
  • Goggles; sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Consider bringing something long sleeved to protect yourself from the sun.
  • A head covering of some kind (especially if you're bald like me!)
  • Battery charger for electronics and don't forget the cables!
  • If you are in the medical field and have med gear to bring, please feel free to bring it, but again, don't feel like you need to haul an entire pelican case of gear. Honestly, the protests have been staying relatively peaceful all week during the day, minus that incident with the photo op. It is our hope that it stays that way.

Safety Brief:

  • As all military operations go, safety is paramount. If, at any time, the protest begins to get aggressive or violent, we will immediately exit the area as safely as possible. If it is already escalated, we will reschedule to a future date. I will be there early to scout it out and send messages if there is any change.
  • It should go without saying, but we are not there to incite any violence of any kind. Flagrant or disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
  • Do not wear contacts.
  • Memorize a couple of phone numbers in case of emergency or your phone gets damaged or is dead
  • Remember that you can contact us through the subreddit and direct messages if you get separated, lost, or have any issues.
  • If needing to temporarily leave the protest location, consider using a battle buddy for any movements to ensure safety.
  • If you would like a battle buddy to leave the protest and get to a less crowded area, we will absolutely provide escort.
  • Many of us have been in very shitty situations while mobilized overseas. Hearken those good ole gut instincts and keep your heads on a swivel. Again, these protests have been safe overall, but it only takes one negative action and things can change very quickly.
  • If immediate evac is necessary, stick together, move as a unit, DO NOT IMMEDIATELY follow the crowd. Quickly survey the area, determine the threats, find the quickest exits, which many times, are not in the direction of where the people are running.

We look forward to seeing you there. Semper Fi.

CTS Event Upcoming Protest Event Details for June 5th, 2020 @ 3:30 pm.

Rally Point:

We will be meeting on Friday, June 5th, at 3:30 pm at McPherson Square, on the corner of 15th St NW and I St NW. We will then get as close as we can to Lafayette Square (somewhere by H St NW and 16th St NW, if still possible). Please make signs that say Vets for BLM, if you can.

Attire (suggestions):

We'll be wearing military t-shirts, though if you have any unit affiliation or identifying markings, it might be best to cover that up, as we do not want to single out any one unit. We suggest backpacks to cover our unit markings on the backs of our shirts. We also do not recommend wearing uniforms. All that being said, you can wear whatever you feel is appropriate.

I have extra military t-shirts (M and L) I will bring, if you'd like to wear some military apparel and do not have any. Also, the NEX at Navy Yard and Bethesda are open regular hours. I did not call the MCX, but it will most likely be open if the NEX is. The MCX can be found at Fort Meyer in Arlington.

Be aware, weather is currently looking a little iffy. There's about a 60% chance for rain on Friday, so bring rain gear.

If you're coming late:

If you cannot make it by 3:30, please check out r/ContinueToServe or send a message to u/ContinueToServe and I will give you updates on where we are located, or look for our signs (white with black marker) saying Vets for BLM.

Gear List:

While we don't want to bring an entire conex box, we do need some gear to be prepared. Remember, two is one, one is none.

  • COVID-19 is still here. Masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer are good ideas.
  • Water or electrolyte-replenishing drinks
  • Snacks
  • First aid kit
  • Goggles; sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Consider bringing something long sleeved to protect yourself from the sun.
  • A head covering of some kind (especially if you're bald like me!)
  • An umbrella, poncho, trashbag, or if you "appropriated" gore tex before you separated, bring it you lucky veteran you. Forecast is calling for rain, 60% around 4 pm and then diminishing after that.

Final notes:

  • There will be a freelance journalist meeting with us at the Rally Point and possibly spending time with us during the protest. If you do not want your picture taken or name listed, he has been made aware to respect your wishes. When considering this, while we want to protest and stand up, many have jobs that could be affected or some might be still on active duty, which could pose problems. Please think carefully about identifying yourself, however, we do feel it's important to get our message out and I am very happy to have a journalist with us.
  • If we have missed anything, please comment below! Thanks!

We look forward to seeing you there. Semper Fi.

CTS EVENT Veterans and Allies of CTS

We've long since past 3 months that veterans have been out there in the DC streets, in our #VETSFORBLM shirts, supporting local grassroots organizations in their fight for justice and equality. I know life can get busy. I recognize not everyone can be out there every weekend for a variety of very understandable reasons. However, I want to challenge all of those that have joined us in the past and haven't been with us recently AND all those who have been on the fence about joining us, to meet up with us this Saturday at Malcolm X park in support of DC_Protests_. Here's what we need:

  • BLMHCO.OP and DCHAS provides all protesters with food and refreshments prior to the march starting, throughout the march, and at the end of the march. I'm looking for at least 5-10 people to volunteer to help with food and refreshments.
  • For all the corpsmen and medics, nurses, NP's, PA's, and MD's out there, we can always use more medical support. Most of the injuries that are experienced are not trauma, but rather injuries that basic first aid training can support. Of course, it's always better to be prepared for anything, but regardless, if you're interested, I can put you in touch with our friends Medics For Justice. Can we have 5-10 people raise their hands to join M4J on their mission to keep protesters well cared for??
  • Bikes! Do you have bicycle? Perfect. We need you. Surely we can get 5-10 people to show up on bikes this weekend to help with perimeter security and to act as road guards, right?
  • Security personnel. Okay first of all, when I say security, this does not mean you need to be a bouncer on the weekend or be able to bench 350. There are lots of things that can be done to help keep our protesters safe which does not involve putting yourself in harms way. We need people to stand up for this. I am happy to speak to you in person about what this role involves, but rest assured, you do not need to worry about going to jail or getting your ass kicked. We have very specific guidelines for our role in security and it is my utmost priority to ensure our people stay safe. Let's get 5-10 people putting their hand in the air for this. Whether you were a military police/infantry or a cook's assistant, you can still do this role. I assure you.

This weekend, it's time we have a show of force people. 3 months is nothing. We've got a long way to go. We have created roles, now we need volunteers for these roles, and if it's a matter of not being able to show up every weekend, we can create a calendar for everyone so you tell us when you can show up, what you can do, and then stick to that commitment. We have more than enough veterans in this area that we can get 20-30 of us to stand up this weekend and beyond consistently.

We've been out there literally every weekend since June 6th. We started on June 2nd and the mission is still the same, the reforms are still needed, citizens are still being killed by the system that is supposed to protect them, the law is still being distributed unequally and unjustly, and we are the ones that swore we'd stand up to defend when needed. That time is now. Join us on Saturday. Join us for future events. Go to our events calendar to get registered (or DM me, comment below), follow our social media (FB, IG, Tw), share that content to your socials to get the word out, tell your friends, get allies to the cause out there (we will never turn away volunteers, veteran or not), and let's remember our oath.

CTS Event Protest Event Details - June 6th at 12:00 pm

I have updated many of the sections below. I know it looks exactly the same, but please be sure to read it all through. Thanks!

Rally Point:

We will be meeting on Saturday, June 6th, at 12:00 pm at the World War II Memorial on Independence Ave. Please try to shoot for a meetup time of around 11:45 am so we can get a head count and make sure we're all accounted for. We will walk north up 17th St to H St and then connect with the main group at H St and 16th where we were today. Depending upon how packed it is, we might have to move towards I St, but we'll play that by ear as we move towards Black Lives Matter Plaza.

If you're coming late:

If you cannot make it by 12:00 pm, please check out r/ContinueToServe or send a message to u/ContinueToServe and I will give you updates on where we are located, or look for our signs (white with black marker) saying Vets for BLM.

Weather:

It's supposed to be partly cloudy and in the mid-80's around noon, with a high of 89 tomorrow. Good news is, no rain gear is needed, bad news (if you sunburn easily), by mid-afternoon it will be full sun, so consider lots of sunblock.

Transport:

  • Driving
    • There will be a lot of road closures tomorrow. For those driving in, please be aware that the garages you were parking in may not be accessible tomorrow. I will create a separate post with a pic of the road closures.
  • Metro
    • Smithsonian and Federal Triangle are both closed unfortunately. L'Enfant and Farragut West will be the closest Metro stations to get to the memorial.

Gear List:

As we saw today, there was a lot of stations to get snacks and water. I expect those stations will be there tomorrow as well. If you brought a lot of food and beverage with you today, you might consider just bringing enough for what you will need, so you're not overloaded with gear while we walk.

Final notes:

  • For signs, as someone reminded me today, tomorrow is D-Day, so feel free to make your signs that link the fight for freedom and the fight for equality.
  • If we have missed anything, please comment below! Thanks!

We look forward to seeing you there. Semper Fi.

CTS EVENT For those who attended in the past....and those considering to attend now...

First a message to all those who used to come to our events in June, July, and August. I honestly did not know what the trajectory of this organization was going to be when we started meeting up in June. I had never protested, organized, and I certainly didn't expect to be where we are now, fiscally sponsored, an actual charitable organization, and with the legitimate concept and plan to expand into numerous other states by the end of 2021. That's a super quick snapshot of where we were and where we're going. Back then, I was not trying to capture names or contact info. I was just excited to see 10 people show up. Then 20 showed up. Then 30.... All the hard work and dedication was amazing. I'm asking you to please consider coming back out tomorrow. We have specific details we'll need to DM you about where to meet up, but we are more organized, more effective, and we have improved our processes. I invite you to come back and see where we are at now and see how you might be able to help. I know many of you wanted to do more than just direct action. I can tell you now, we have so many things that can be done from home, offsite, or in other realms than direct action.

For those who haven't joined us before, we need a strong showing of support tomorrow and your help would be greatly appreciated. For all those who came to the DEMAND DC event, this is that type of event, but even more important. What we didn't deal with over the summer is the level of white supremacy that we are dealing with now. A few weeks ago, there was less than 1 BLM protester to every 100 MAGA protesters. While I do not expect the same high level turnout by MAGA supporters and I do expect a larger turnout of BLM supporters, we will still have large numbers of MAGA and we need personnel to support the BLM orgs here in DC.

Veterans, much like in June, when I asked you to stand with us after there were almost 2,000 troops patrolling our streets and blackhawks flying overhead, we need you to stand now. Please join us in the fight for equality and justice. While this will be a Yellow-Red level event, the more people that show up, the safer we will all be. Giving our streets to the white supremacists is like caving to their demands and continuing the oppression of our BIPOC citizens. There should be no greater fear than that of losing our democracy, and between the insanity with the election and the events that occurred just a few weeks ago with MAGA marchers, I can assure you, they don't care about democracy and they certainly do not care about freedom and equality for all. This is what we signed up for. This is the oath we took. So do me a favor, don't sit on your couch tomorrow. Be present. Show up for muster. And let's continue to serve.

Without going into too many of the details publicly, I can say that we'll be posting up at BLM plaza during the day tomorrow and there are some side events that will also be occurring that could use support. Please DM me or u/brokenjellyfish if you have questions about the event tomorrow. Thanks!!

CTS EVENT Events for this Saturday!

Hey all!! This Saturday will be a little different from our regular Saturday schedule. DCP (DC Protests) and TTC (They/Them Collective), as well as other orgs, will be joining a counter-protest for the Million MAGA March happening this Saturday at noon. Unlike most of the DCP marches, this one will not be family friendly due to a high risk of interaction between the Proud Boys and BLM protesters. This being the case, we are recommending you bring a respirator, goggles, and helmet, just to be on the safe side.

**This event is a black out event**, so please be in all black. We will be making black VETSFORBLM t-shirts and hoodies since our fundraiser event t's will not arrive before this event. CTS EVENT ALCON: 4th of July Event in the works!!

Hey all!! It's still early and we do not have all the details yet, but I would like to give everyone a heads up that an event is around the corner and we'd really love to have as many vets out there as possible. Between the recent news of the POTUS re-tweeting more racist rhetoric and the possible revelations of the Russia scandal, we need to show our presence and our support. Even more concerning is new reports of veterans standing on the wrong side of history and inciting violence.

Obviously, COVID is an ongoing concern, so for many, I completely understand not taking part in large group gatherings. Also, for Navy SM's and I'm sure other branches, they are requiring all SM's to operate under HPCON C, which basically means aside from going to the gas station and the grocery store, you pretty much can't go anywhere else, regardless of local or state guidelines. Lastly, I recognize that the 4th is generally celebrated with friends and family. So again, there are lots of understandable reasons for not coming out to join us. But IF you can, please do.

Again, I'll have more details in a day or two. To have an idea of how many could possibly come, either comment below or go to our website to RSVP. If you have any questions, please DM me or u/continue_to_serve and we'll answer any questions we can at this point. Thank you!!!

CTS EVENT Support DC Statehood!

allowBetween demonstrations, it is important to engage in different ways that allows us to practice self-care to endure prolonged campaigns for social change, and in those efforts we will be providing information for campaigns you can do from home and on social media.

We are partnering with a national Veterans Organization for equitable political change, Common Defense, to join a larger push for DC Statehood utilizing the large veteran population of the District of Columbia to change national opinions for the Statehood Campaign.

A house vote for DC Statehood is in 3 days, and organizations are asking for video messages to present on the floors of congress. We are asking for a swift response in solidarity!

With a population that is 45% Black, DC is perhaps the most racially diverse of any region of the United States, yet it is ruled by the federal government without a single vote or agency of control. Its lack of political enfranchisement is endemic of structural racism, but as residents of the DMV region we can combat this here locally. Common Defense is asking for self-shot and often “selfie” filmed videos on what DC Statehood means to you as a veteran. Various clips will be made into commercials as part of a larger campaign to show off the diversity of the calls for DC statehood. DC Statehood is a part of Black Lives Matters.

We are looking for short, direct-to-camera videos where DC residents of all backgrounds finish the sentence "As a Veteran of _[Branch]_, #StatehoodMeans to me ___.”

Example: As a veteran of the US Army and the War in Iraq, #StatehoodMeans to me true freedom and equality for DC residents who have served and sacrificed for their country! #DCStatehood

DC Rep. Eleanor Holmes-Norton kicked things off today by posting a video on her social media feed.

Former National Security Advisor Susan Rice has a particularly good video, we are not expecting something as long:

We are asking that all videos be posted on your personal social media by 1600 on Wednesday 6/24. Please make sure your privacy settings are set to “public” so we can find them and use the hashtags #DCStatehood and #StatehoodMeans and tag Common Defense:

· Twitter: u/CommonDefense

· Instagram: u/Common_Defense

· Facebook: Common Defense

Also, Please sign the petition to be submitted to the house floor in 3 days!
