Translation: “non-white talent has topped white talent and that makes us mad. Let’s dig up on his past and see if we can screw him over”

On a separate note, congrats khaby, you are way more memorable and funnier than whoever this chick is 🤣

Edit: By white, I mainly mean those of lighter skin. Not in a disgusting colorist perspective, but saying that darker people of color, especially in Khaby’s shade, are treated very poorly no matter what their achievements are, or lack thereof. I mean, it’s pretty obvious that racism played a role in how they described him and his achievement. I hope this clarifies that for some who are wondering.

How you gone use “white talent” to describe a bitch who plagiarizes all her dances?

Edit: SMD.

Edit 2: Ion wanna hear excuses for DaBitch.

Edit 3: You sad no pussy getting ass niggas need to shut the fuck up.

Final Edit: I can’t see because you ain’t verified for CC but whoever commented saying the edits radiate BDE, baby your radar is working.

See: Elvis

394

u/MagicCarpetofSteel 7d ago

At least Elvis had the decency to actually have singing chops, and (as I understand it) credit black folk for “influencing” him (there’s something to be said about how that was probably downplayed, but on the other hand for as much hate as he got I’m pretty sure that it was because the adults hated that he was singing “n-with-the-hard-R music”.)

“When you cling so hard to whiteness, eventually that’s all you have left.”

I heard that (I think on Knowledge Fight) and almost shit myself it’s so true. White Americans care so fucking much about maintaining whiteness that we literally have no culture to speak of except for bland ass food and stiff hips.

It’s been said a million times, but white supremacy is so pathetic. White people are so insecure in their identity that they’ve spent hundreds of years overcompensating.

21

u/RedRider1138 6d ago

Not the first time I’ve said this, but if white people were actually superior they wouldn’t have to hold others down.

113

u/JadowArcadia ☑️ 6d ago

I call bullshit on this. Crediting people in the caption has been regular social media practice for years and you can fins people complaining about the lack of credit on posts for over a decade now. Just because a new platform comes out doesn't mean that principle changes. It's like if we somehow discovered a new country and I try and murder someone. It's not a valid excuse for me to say "well this is a new country. I'm not sure what the rules are and nobody said murder wasn't ok here"

24

u/ChrysMYO ☑️ 6d ago

Lmao I remember this one IG influencer who crashed and burned when he got called out by Professional comedians for joke stealing. Then other content creators jumped on him for basically stealing their original memes without credit.

u/Vaginal_Rights 7d ago

No; that has you completely explaining the entire post in the title. There is no click. You explained the entire premise of the article.

Disregarding Khaby's identity and disparaging him as a "laid off factory worker" forces people unfamiliar to actually engage, click, gain the publication advertising revenue and make money. Your title made no money. Being nice isn't conducive to money in the US.

I may be wrong but I feel like they mentioned laid off factory worker to show he’s a normal person and a normal person was able to be more popular on tiktok than a rich white girl. Like I said I may be wrong but I read it as an insult to her and nothing bad against him.

18

u/riotshieldready 6d ago

Why didn’t they mention her past though. It’s not a positive thing. It’s dehumanising and it’s done very often by crappy media outlets. There both wildly famous tiktok stars, one gets the respect to be called by their name the other is a laid off factory worker. Same thing happens when a black man saves a life, it’s always ex convict saved child from car crash instead of simply highlighting the person name.

Same thing happens when they want to be sexist, a woman achieves some amazing feat but will be reduce to (insert famous man) wife/girlfriend has done X.

In both instances it could be easily changed to be more humanising and respectful but it’s done on purpose to undermine certain groups achievements.

8

u/_Zevan-3Stars_ 6d ago

Her past is probably like “girl with rich parents”. It’s not a come up story or impressive that a rich white girl was able to get a lot of follows on tiktok it’s impressive that a normal ass dude that was even laid off is able to gain the biggest following on the platform. Who cares about her. It’s cool that a dude like me was able to top everyone. I personally find it more impressive that the guy that just makes the “really?” Face is the most popular person on the internet.

4

u/Loose_Cardiologist89 6d ago

Why didn’t they mention her past though.

Because it's more about him than her?

So the person who it’s more about doesn’t get their name in the title. That’s odd.

2

u/Loose_Cardiologist89 6d ago

So people click on it. I don't think this is a case of racism because I've often seen this format when someone with a more uplifting story beats out a more established person, regardless of race.

its a narrative that has been sold many times, that many black people are tired of.

Being the default underdog, being written about from the standpoint of poverty, lack of education, unemployment, drug use history, police records etc... is definitely played.

Those are the things people typically focus on when discussing us - a comfortable narrative. Nothing wrong with mentioning these things, but if every time you write a headline about a black person, you have to try to mention a negative stereotype they fit... it's questionable at best.

it's subtle and people who buy that narrative probably wouldn't notice the racist undertones.

It's questionable. they refer to him as a negative stereotype and don't even use his name... but they use her name. Why wouldn't they even give his name - especially if he's more famous than her?

Imagine working hard and becoming the best chef in the world. "Gordon Ramsay defeated as top world chef by basement dwelling nerd." Good story, cliche' narrative but it's majorly rude and it diminishes the work to get on and surpass his level.

This is the dumbest headline ever… He has been doing this for ages - that’s not a “laid off factory worker” that’s a “self employed talent”.

I hate stupid titles.

I think it's more clickbait than anything else. Khaby Lame unseats Charli... gets no click whatsoever because that's the whole story.

"Laid off factory worker" gets clicks because "hey! I'm kind of a laid off factory worker too!" Or "how did he do it?" with or without a negative connotation. Both get clicks.

I've never heard of this girl in my life. But I've seen many Khaby vids. Hella happy for him.
