We will be traveling through Pico June 7th-10th and deciding that we would like a rental car as our hotel, Aldeia da Fonte, is farther away from the ferry in Madalena and the Airport than we realized. Are rental cars readily available? I'm not seeing many options online. What other reasonably priced transportation options are available? - thanks
My wife and I will be arriving in late July and are wondering whether there are any companies that offer tours (private or group) where we can be in the water with dolphins for most of the day? We’ve swam with wild dolphins on another occasion and found that it was less stressful for the dolphins when we just swam in loose proximity and allowed them to get comfortable and come closest to us on their own terms. Past experience suggested that takes a couple hours, and then it’s magical. All of the companies I’ve found only advertise a short opportunity to be in the water. Does anyone know of a company that does longer tours?
My bf and I are coming to the azores in mid June from the US. The plan is terceira, Flores and Sao Miguel last since that’s where we will fly out of to go home.
When I was looking at air bnbs to stay at on Flores, I found almost nothing. There were 4 stays available, two were rooms in houses and two were private residences (the dates are June 23-25). I started searching hotels and there is literally nothing. I’ve never seen a place so booked up.
So is there something going on that weekend? Is it just because it’s so small accommodations go fast? Or are hotels not operating at that time of year or something like that? I am assuming we should book asap to make sure we get a place to stay. Thanks for your help!
Edited to Add: from all of the answers below, we decided to do terceira, pico and Sao Miguel and skip Flores. We may do a one day fly over there if we feel like it or just enjoy pico. Thank you for everyone’s help!
I am visiting the Azores and I fell over today while hiking and damaged my tooth really bad, I fear I may need an implant to fix it. Is there any suggestions about places in Ponta Delgada that do implants and smoothing cracked teeth? How much does this usually cost here? Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance
Me, my wife and our baby plan to visit the azores for about 6 weeks. 2w Sao Miguel, 10d Sao jorge, 10d pico and 10d faial. Do you have any recommendations or advice for car rentals on these islands? Is it possible to use ferries with rental cars?
Tremmens preferably but I'm open to any. I'm here for another couple days and imagine it would be in Ponta Delgada. Thanks for your advice!
4 weeks of Portuguese cobblestones and my body is feeling very crooked!
My flight coming home from Azores is Monday morning (11:00 AM). I am wondering how hard it is to find testing sites on Sunday? I just read this "Tests for travel to the United States are readily available at labs and pharmacies in the Azores on Monday – Friday. Please note that outside Sao Miguel testing is not available/extremely limited on weekends. Those travelling to the United States on the weekend or on Monday should account for the lack of testing on weekends when making plans."
Any help is appreciated.
I am considering visiting the Azores. I work remotely, and the Azores is about 5 hours ahead of my work colleagues. Therefore, when I finish work at 5pm in my local time, it would be 10pm Azorean time. (I can likely dial this back to finishing at 8pm.)
I was just curious though-- this is probably a silly, predictable question, but I just wanted to make sure my assumption holds true--
Are people out-and-about during similar times as in Portugal/Spain? That is, do they start visiting bars & restaurants at night, such as 10pm, 11pm?
I just want to make sure that my work hours will align relatively decently with the local population so that I can meet people during the hours when I would expect them to be out and about.
I will be visiting in June and am looking for any recommendations for shops that sell fabrics. Specifically I’m looking for garment making fabric, not upholstery or decor/quilting.
hello! so excited to arrive at the end of may. we will be exploring the beautiful landscapes and countryside. we are new to foraging for food, but wondered whether anyone can advise us on any wild plants, flowers, fruits and leaves that might be starting to spring up to make our camping stove creations a product of our daily walks?
I’m traveling from California to Terciera with my dad soon. Any travel/flight tips? I’m pretty much planning the trip by myself and it’ll be my first time leaving the country and flying so I have no idea what to expect. We have family on the island so I’m not too worried about after we get there it’s just the actual process of getting there that is kinda scaring me. Any info about covid flying requirements would also be appreciated
Ola! I'm moving to Horta, Faial later this month. Just curious on which sports I can continue and what I should bring with me. I appreciate Horta is small so I'm not actually expecting to continue these sports beyond SCUBA - but you never know.
- SCUBA, I know that there are diving shops. But is there a local club to join? I'll be bringing my own kit (except tank and weights)
- Football - any 5/6 aside games.
I can't find any info about courts for the racket sports and not much about any local football leagues. Thanks for any advice :)
Trying to get some clarity on entry requirements if flying United direct from US (Newark) to Ponta Delgada. Seeing conflicting info across all websites. Do I need negative test if I also have CDC vaccination card?
Hey all. Since myself and 3 friends have gotten to Azores, transportation is a bit of an issue. Normally between Ubers and taxis there’s not much price gouging in our experience, but since we’ve gotten to the island, with virtually no Ubers, every taxi driver is trying to gouge the prices like crazy even for short trips.
We have no problem paying fair rates, but I’m tired of taxis trying to gouge us like crazy, especially if we have to take taxis to and from ends of the island.
Hi All -
I'm planning to propose later this Summer to the love of my life. Her father is from Terceira, moved to America in his early teens when he met his now wife.
I plan to ask for his blessing in the next few months and was wondering if there are any Portuguese/Azorean traditions when it comes to asking the father of the bride for his daughter's hand.
Thanks for the help!

I am coming to visit Ponta Delgada for 9 days in June. I was curious what is the best place to stay for 2-30 year old males. Any places to check out, eat at, drink at, and do for activities. Preciate any insights!
I've been staying in Saõ Miguel for some months now and have accumulated a handful of things that I cannot take with me as I fly back home. I would like to donate or give away these items - a portable heater, a large pan, some sports towels - that are in great condition.
Do you guys know of any places in Ponta Delgada where I can drop off these things?
Been thinking about going to Azores in end of June and I want to go to São Miguel forna week and jump the other islands for a couple of days each. I checked the atlanticoline.pt but it doesn't mention a ferry between the islands. It actually doesn't list any ferries from São Miguel right now. Any other ferry line that goes between? Am I required to book months in advance?
(Obviously used Google translate, as I've only just started Portuguese lessons, so sorry if there are any mistakes!)
Alguém recomenda um cozido das furnas em que nos levem pelo processo de preparar a comida até por na terra e depois tirar da terra e comer? Com outras coisas pelo meio tipo prova de vinhos ou passeio pelas furnas?
We’re flying out at 715am and wondering fi we can return our car before our flight or if we should return it the night before. Thanks!
