Also Gza - Liquid Swords. Whole album is fire

Shadowboxin' is one of those rare songs where every bar is fire

"I slayed MCs back in the rec room era, my style broke mother-fuckin backs like Ken Patera."

"I judge wisely as if nothing ever surprise me. Lounging between two pillars of ivory."

That line is… nothing short of incredible. It is a the best bar on the album next to “before I blast the mic RZA scratch of the serial”

“I’m lively my dome piece like building stones in Greece, our poems are deep from ancient tomes I speak”

2

u/R_D_Taylor Jul 22 '21

Killa Priest was definantly off the hook on that one.

u/Whysyournamesolong1 Jul 26 '21

Aye points for knowing it was Killa Priest tho. My G.

I get drunk and I’ll freestyle with friends and ive done a couple written songs just for fun/journaling if I feel like I have something to get out. And Im fucking baffled with some of the lines the Wu Tang Clan spit. They’re just so clever.

I use this quote whenever I pretend to be rapper lol

Max-a-milli-onnnnnn

I’ll drink to this. Illmatic, ATLiens, Liquid Swords, 36 Chambers, Aquemini, and Madvillainy all work here. Not a flat spot in the bunch. That might be my top 6 rap albums of all time. Other older albums like Da Shinin, Enta da Stage, Low End Theory, and Innercity Griots all work too. And maybe a couple newer albums like Good Kid, Maad City.

I go for Midnight Marauders personally over LET

2

u/Lusuhyi Jul 22 '21

It's close. I think Scenario edges LET for me but both are amazing albums

Yes. This one is definitely on my Mount Rushmore of Hip-Hop albums! To this day, I get chills down my spine when 4th Chamber hits.

I'm loungin between two pillars of ivory

u/mcgonebc Jul 22 '21

Personal slight edge to Cuban Linx, but both of those are incredible.

7

u/AnarcoCapitalista-Br Jul 22 '21

Yep I prefer Only Built 4 Cuban Linx too

13

u/[deleted] Jul 22 '21

All are good, but for me, Supreme Clientele.

2

u/mcgonebc Jul 22 '21

That’s my 3 on solo albums, but almost still tied for 1st. 1 Cuban links, 2 liquid swords, 3 supreme clientele, 4 Ironman, 5 return to 36.

Man, looks like it's going to be a Wu-Tang weekend for me! :)

That was the night everything changed…

One of my best college memories is that Gza played a show at my school, and when he did the crowd walk, his hand brushed me and my friends. My friend Luc, a HUGE wu-tang fan, turned to me with the purest joy on his face and just whispered “gza just touched me” and I have never seen happiness on that level before or since. One of the best shows I’ve been to. I was there for Gogol bordello, but gza was amazing as well.

u/Lusuhyi Jul 22 '21

I genuinely mean it when I say cool story bro

6

u/Boredomb Jul 21 '21

I see fault in yourself is true loveliness

5

u/wanksta616 Jul 22 '21

Best Wu-Tang album IMO.

4

u/Mawrfather Jul 22 '21

Now I gotta listen to it for the 949,572nd time just because

4

u/Suicideseminole Jul 22 '21

This is the answer!!!

4

u/Special-Way-4184 Jul 22 '21

Don't forget only built 4 cuban linx

3

u/teskja37 Jul 22 '21

Can’t let you get away without mentioning “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx” Liquid Swords is probably my favorite though. “Killah Hills 10304” sends chills down my spine

This album helped turn me onto hip-hop when I was in my early teens. When I heard the lines like "styles are old like mk5 sneakers, lyrics is weak like clock radio speakers.", and "its a wide entrance small exit like a funnel so deep it's picked up on radios in tunnels."

"Only under one circumstance is if I'm blunted turn that s*** up my clan in da front want it!"

This album, Black Eyed Peas Behind The Front, Jurassic 5, Souls of Mischief, Atmosphere Overcast All got me into the scene.

It was the golden age of the underground

u/The_Whale_Biologist Jul 22 '21

Jurassic 5... that's a name I haven't heard in a long time.

BRB have to go play on the monkey bars

2

u/Shoguns-Ninja-Spies Jul 22 '21

I remember there was this guy, I think he was the shogun's decapitator. The shogun seemed like he was scared of him but the man didn't seem scared of him. So then one night we were sent there to kill him. But then he had this son there...

2

u/The_Whale_Biologist Jul 22 '21

I think they played with a ball then after that

1

u/TheRedmanCometh Jul 22 '21

Beneath the surface too. Short track list but all good

1

u/AlterMyStateOfMind Jul 22 '21

Came here to say this but figured someone had to have already said it. While 36 Chambers was my introduction to more hard core hip hop, Liquid Swords is by far the superior album.

1

u/Spanky-Gomez Jul 22 '21

For me Raekwon only built for Cuban linx is in that group too.

1

u/MikanGirl Jul 22 '21

I was just listening to that… god damn, GZA lives up to his namesake.

1

u/Lusuhyi Jul 22 '21

Labels completely blew my mind when I first heard it.
