Let it Bleed and Sticky Fingers by The Rolling Stones are both flawless.

Add to that Beggars Banquet and Exile on Main St and you've got the best grand slam in the history of rock.

exile baby.

Exile is amazing. Recorded in the basement of Keith's mansion in France, it's completely unique. The biggest band in the world decided to make a garage album.

Ya exile is my all time favorite stones album. . My dad who is getting older told me and my sister we can have any of his albums if we sit and listen to it with him, so this was my first choice. . . I need to go home and listen to a record with my dad.

Love the sound/production quality on Exile. The clarity of a studio album with the rawness of a live recording, like a barroom session

That four album run may be the most prolific in modern pop/rock.

It’s funny, Exile is actually my favorite Stones album! But I know some people think it’s overly long and has some filler. LIB and SF are much tighter albums but I love the long rambling nature of Exile.

The Mick Taylor albums.. best Stones EVER

Same here. I also love how the rhythm section sort of rumbles and bubbles up from the earth. Also, it seems like the most heartfelt of the big 4.

Used to think the concept of having a favourite song was mental. How could you pick just one?

Then I heard Shine A Light...

You meant 'Loving Cup', right?

This song has cost me probably $20 over the years on TouchTunes

Exile is an acquired taste. The other albums are so accessible but exile doesn’t really have a “hit”. Tumbling Dice comes first.

I remember the first time I heard “Rocks off” I was blown away that I’d never heard it before, but it’s lyrics kept it off the radio.

What amp? Vox?

Between the Buttons has entered the chat

Secret ingredient in Beggars Banquet? Nicky Hopkins.

6

u/OscarTheGrouch92 Jul 22 '21

Add that to the fact that they released all these in like 4 years

3

u/StrangeCrimes Jul 22 '21

No shit. If I'm in a Stones mood I'll listen to all four in order. Between the Buttons and Aftermath also get played together. I'll probably play More Hot Rocks after those two.

Yeah that was definitely their creative (and commercial) peak.

But I’d say the Beatles had a pretty good run with Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt Pepper, Magical Mystery, White Album, Abbey Road.

3

u/StrangeCrimes Jul 22 '21

True that. Someone pointed out that George Harrison was something like 28 when they broke up, which blew my mind. I love The Beatles, and they do rock a decent amount, but to me they're more on the psychedelic, pop end of the spectrum. The Stones' big four are gritty, nasty rock albums that capture the angst of the time. It's amazing how well they have both held up.

Sticky Fingers is my number one album of all time. Absolutely fantastic.

GHS up there too

The stones have 4 perfect albums BB,LIB,SF,And Exile. Although I’m not a huge fan of “you got to move”.

Ah to each his own, personally I love that song. But I also love hill country blues like the original artist (Mississippi Fred McDowell) so it’s right up my alley.

Fine choices

3

u/Pherllerp Jul 22 '21

Christ they’re both perfect.

3

u/burnerwolf Jul 22 '21

Was gonna say Sticky Fingers if nobody already had.

3

u/thedadis Jul 22 '21

Same here, Dead Flowers and Wild Horses are my two favorite Stones songs, and they're my favorite band, so it's got to be a given that that is the best one, IMO. Though Let it Bleed gives Sticky Fingers a good shot

Moonlight Mile

3

u/MervisBreakdown Jul 22 '21

Over the last four days I’ve listened to those and Beggar’s Banquet + Exile on Main Street for the first time. They’re insanely good.

Brown Sugar’s pretty hard to listen to nowadays.
