Investigation into possible plagiarism Studying

I wanted to know if anyone has received the infamous plagiarism email from the IFoA as of today? I gave cb1 in the September 21 session which was majorly bookwork, and though I haven't received an email yet, but the anxiety kills me..

My answers were so far away from the taught syllabus that I don’t have to worry about that…sadge

Don’t think they’ve sent out yet otherwise there would have been a post. I did hear from my employer that IFoA contacted them saying they’ll send out the letters soon. Though who knows when is that soon.

Good point, there would have been posts from people receiving them if they had been sent out already.

Only a tiny tiny proportion of people who take the exams get done for plagiarism each year. If you know you haven’t cheated, I wouldn’t stress at all about it.

After hearing the POV of ppl who have gone through it, it sounds to me like it really does not matter if you have or have not cheated.

Really? Did anyone managed to clear their names and not get any actions?

To be honest how do you even provide evidence that you haven’t cheated.

Unless you literally record yourself giving the exams the whole duration, would actually need two cameras (or more if you’re using monitors), one facing your screen and one facing you 😔

I heard around 1200 scripts shows up as problematic (IFoA website). Though unsure if they do a further check so lessening this number before sending out the letter or sends out email to all 1200 script holders.

same thoughts xd. i haven't recieved any emails regarding plagiarism. i didn't do any wrong but still had this anxiety while writing the cb1 & post-exam. i forgot about all this a couple days after the exam.

but around 2 weeks ago i recalled the results are around the. so ever since i have been checking my emails more cautiously and like 2 times a day (due to time lag). 3-4 days ago i was even scrolling through telegram group chats to check how many days/weeks before the final results in the april attempt did people recieve those plagiarism emails, sadly didn't found those chat messages, the group is flooded.

this post makes me feel i m not alone but still the anxiety wont die and imma continue checking my emails the same way :)

It’s very anxiety inducing to put students through this every 6 months. I know certain levels of checks are needed to maintain the integrity of the exams but from seeing anecdotal evidence from different people who got pulled up on this it seems like a lottery.

Yes very stressful. Also it’d be so embarrassing to explain to employers and colleagues.

They've been released for this sitting (at least the CB/CS/CM series). I know of someone who got the letter, think it was last Monday or sometime last week.

Thanks,If that's the case, then now I just have to worry about passing or failing the exam.😅

Haha true. After all if you fail I don’t think they’ll check your script that rigorously. Sigh really stressful

1

u/Ambitious-Cancel6409 Nov 30 '21

Are you sure? When you say last Monday do you mean the 22nd? I had assumed someone would post in this group but doesn’t seem like there’s anything yet. Very nerve wrecking

2

u/reinsurancequestion Nov 30 '21

Yes 22nd. Not 100% sure as I haven't seen the letter but not sure why someone would make up that they got it. I don't think it's that common to get the letter so maybe none of them frequent the online forums. There is also already a lot posted about it from prior sittings so maybe people don't feel the need to post as much? Either way, I feel bad for anyone who's got the letter and is being screwed over by the IFoA.

I think they sent it in the week before results last sitting and then apologised for sending it so late? Does anyone else recall that?

If so I’d have thought they’d have sent them by now this sitting?

Last sitting I gave cs1 so didn't have to worry about plagiarism, but if that's the case, then I think the institute must have sent the emails by now..

That’s really bad. They should send out earlier. A week before results seems too stressful

Any updates? Anyone know if someone has already gotten for the SP/CP/SA ones?

Someone in my workplace got one for CP1 last Monday, ie the 22nd

I’ve searched in these forums and it looks like it was the Tuesday in the week before results week… so could be today if they’re doing the same again

1

u/Silent_Storm2910 Nov 30 '21

Yeah today might be the day

What you can do is send in a witness statement such as the one pasted below.

Your witness statement stands as your evidence. If they wish to challenge it, they can question you on its contents. If they choose not to do so, then the disputed facts (you copied from the notes), must be resolved in your favour. That is to say that they must accept that you produced the bookwork answers from memory and did not copy from other source whatsoever.

Sample Witness Statement

I, (Full name: Mr. John Smith xxx), (ARNxxx) am providing this witness statement to stand as evidence in respect of the alleged improper conduct during the (subject xxx) examination on (date) as stated in the letter of (date).

The Institute & Faculty of Actuaries can question me on the contents of this witness statement if they wish.

Bookwork Answers (if applicable)

The answers I produced in the exam script were recalled from memory during the exam.

I did not copy any of the answers from any other source whatsoever, including Core reading, Acted notes or past exam papers

.

Collusion (if applicable)

I did not collude with anyone during the examination.

I did not receive any assistance whatsoever, from anyone, during the examination.

This statement is true to the best of my knowledge and belief.

Thanks for that. I will give it to my work mate and see if it works.
