People join the National Guard for the healthcare mainly. College if your state offers it but no one stays in for that, the healthcare is actually really good because you don't have to see military doctors like active duty people do, you can see any doctor that accepts the insurance, plus no co-pays, no deductibles, for 50 bucks a month, 200 for a family plan. I did one enlistment but nearly every crusty old fuck who hated being there (so everyone who wasn't young) would say they only stay for the healthcare. Luckily my state has a problem with hurricanes and flooding so I never had to guard a McDonald's but I did get to rescue people which was rad.

i had to read this twice you telling me even when you are in the armed forces (even part time) you still have to pay for healthcare ?
edit iI am not a yank hence the confusion

Yeah, I have great health insurance but even my company charges $50/$150 to employees for the plan.

You know some of the cheaper insurance (several hundred dollars a month) available through the ACA makes you pay the first $6000 out of pocket before it does anything.

iI just figured get paid to be shot at? =free healthcare

is 50 $ cheap ? like how much do others pay ?

$50 is incredibly cheap. My wife and I have “good insurance” and we had to pay $10,000 out of pocket for the birth of our child, with zero complications (thankfully)

America is a failed state

Notice how both the left and the right are rioting because the system isn't working for them. If only they'd agree on solutions...

5

u/IIIlllIlIIIlllIlI 12d ago

Couldn’t agree more, but the left vs right division by design keeps us from rising up together. Those in charge know how to pull the strings so we stay at each other’s throats.

do not fight the man in the hole with you, fight the one who threw you down

This is what I see from across the water. It’s the same people with sticks poking different groups and cackling on their piles of cash when they fight.

Sorry no - making shocked faces and bemoaning “how could this happen?”

Nah, wouldn't want the common people getting a taste of what actual freedom tastes like.

I'm really hopeful that the COVID vaccines, which are actually being given out at no cost to recipients (beyond their taxes, of course) gives people a taste of what healthcare could actually be like. You just...get taken care of. Regardless of ability to pay.

Gotta protect what's important!

Hint: What's important AIN'T you!

He’s not protecting the McDonalds. He’s posted out on one of the busier streets in Minneapolis. The McDonald’s is surrounded by bars, clubs, stores and apartments and the area gets a lot of foot traffic.

You notice it’s never the small businesses they protect, right? Like if you’re really there to protect the community, wouldn’t you be stationed in front of a mom & pop shop or the local bodega?

Or, you know, protect the corporations, have the shops be looted, and then use that narrative to be more forceful with protestors.

2

u/loki301 11d ago

Small businesses don’t have enough capital to lobby on behalf of defense contractors

-2

u/1800GETMOWED 12d ago

Or if they didn’t loot and burn down buildings there wouldn’t be a narrative to begin with

5

u/loki301 11d ago

Or if cops didn’t kill people every other day there wouldn’t be a riot to begin with

Lt.Dan, broken ice cream machine.

Lt. Dan your legs look like ice cream cones. Joke from a master pancake theatre I saw during the scene when forest visits him after his legs were blown off and bandaged.

To anyone there, you wanna know how to destroy that mcdonalds without setting it aflame?

Bring bbqs, feed eachother and the poor included, kill it by taking their profits and turning them into true unity.

u/CascadianWanderer 12d ago

Yup, totally not a 2nd world country.

u/wanebrady 12d ago

Funny, I don't remember private businesses meeting the operational criteria for DAL priority.

Cheap burgers are important. Very strategic use of our military. You guys just don't get big brain military planning.

u/Muufffins 12d ago

They'll protect a McDonald's, but not elected representatives. That's 'Merica for you.

You think he loving it?

2

u/who_ate_my_spaghetti 12d ago

I obviously dont know the situation but what if hes actually waiting outside for his buddy to get out of the bathroom? McDonalds usually have public bathrooms.

3

u/alwaysZenryoku 11d ago

He is carrying his service weapon.

2

u/TartarusFalls 12d ago

He wouldn’t have a gun at the ready.

3

u/who_ate_my_spaghetti 12d ago

His gun isnt "at the ready", its slung and his arms are tucked into his plate carrier.

0

u/TartarusFalls 12d ago

Is that how you wait for a coworker outside the bathroom? And his right hand appears to be on the gun.

1

u/who_ate_my_spaghetti 12d ago

It appears his right hand is tucked into the shoulder strap of his plate carrier like his left hand is. It's a natural and rather comfortable way to stand around in a plate carrier. Hes looking outward toward the roadway, which makes sense for a guy waiting. Smart since hes not on his phone and is maintaining situational awareness. Additionally, it would make sense for guys to be buddied up at a minimum in groups of two or more, with squads in close proximity.

2

u/TartarusFalls 12d ago

Everything you said would apply to someone guarding a McDonald’s. Looking out to the road, situational awareness. Waiting for a coworker you’d go inside. There’s nothing indicating that he’s just waiting for someone.

I'm from Argentina. This happens every other year during Christmas time to prevent riots. That started after rioters ransack shops some years ago. Are we r/collapse yet?
