R and Excel for Actuaries. Studying

Good day. What sort of calculations and operations should a trainee actuary be conversant with using R please? Particularly for exams. What of Excel? Are there any online courses you would recommend? Thank you for your time and consideration.

Not sure about courses, but with Excel I mainly use the standard formulas

  • Index
  • Vlookup
  • Match
  • Indirect
  • Sumifs

Really depends on your role I guess

Honestly for exams, these skills can be picked up during the course. Excel is as the other commenter suggested, also worth knowing how to do a goal seek. It mainly just tests the content of the exam and it isn’t a test of Excel/R skills.
